[Paraview] problems w/ legacy VTK reader ....

2009-12-10 Thread William A. Mahaffey III

I am trying to read in a legacy VTK file using paraview.x86_64
(3.6.1-6.fc11) installed from FC11 repository. I get a bunch of errors
as attached in the file 'LIST'. The file I tried to read in is a bit
large for the list, but I can pass it along if needed. FWIW, mayavi (v
1.5.n, I *think*) read it in OK, but I would prefer to use paraview
Thanks in advance for your time & any clues.

This is by deliberate action of the company that makes FieldView,
"Intelligent Light." The documentation for the FieldView file formats
is part of the overall documentation set which is expressly distributed
under an "End User License Agreement" that forbids the dissemination of
covered materials to non-licensees. They believe that making their file
formats open gives their competition an advantage. I can't say that I
even remotely agree with this (EnSight andTecplot, are just a couple of
counterexamples), but they are probably not going to change their minds
until their licensed users get upset and organized about lobbying them
on this issue. This is why I'm interested in writing a translator for
my own use, so I'm not forever stuck with only one
visualization/post-processing tool for my datasets.

So the consensus is that I should target the EnSight file format? I'm
looking at their documentation now...

[Paraview] Suggested format for open unstructured CFD including surface geometry?

2009-08-20 Thread A. Austen
Hello all.

I'm interested in using ParaView to view unstructured CFD solutions.
I'm currently using a proprietary flow solver which outputs results in
FieldView-Unstructured format. The nice thing about that format is that
it allows the inclusion of not just the solution grid, but also all the
boundary surface geometry.

However, I'm not crazy about being stuck with FieldView as my only
option, so I'd like to write a translator to output an equivalent
dataset in a more open format. I've looked at CGNS, but it expects the
user to link to external CAD files to provide the surface geometry. Is
there a recommended file format supported by VTK that is well-documented
which includes the capability to include the surface geometry as a
triangular surface mesh? The geometric body definitions in my existing
FieldView-Unstructured files consist of triangular surface meshes, a la
FACET or STL, and in fact starts out as a FACET input into the flow
solver.

Another question is if ParaView allows such a surface to clip the mesh
such that it would be possible to view a coordinate plane, but only the
portion contained within one of the boundary surfaces?

Thank you.

[Paraview] custom Gui for writer

2009-06-16 Thread A. Vidjinnagni
Hi,

I want to do a custom gui for my writer. currently i can use the xml but i
really like to make an advance gui for it.
When i do for a filter is working but for a writer is not showing the custon
gui i made...is just show the objects in the
xml. Every things is correct in the cmake and all.
Is anyone can tell me if that can work for a writer too?

Thanks.

[Paraview] Parallel readers

2009-06-03 Thread A. Vidjinnagni
ParaViewers,
I have a reader wich have a panel selection in paraview to load properties
arrays by using a list of checkbox in the GUI.
Sometimes when many properties are checked, paraview crash with memory size
problem.
I don't know if i need to run ParaView run in parallel in many nodes
or partition
the big file in multiple files and try change
the reader to file series mode?

Thanks.

Re: [Paraview] 1 Parallel Paraview

2009-03-04 Thread A. Vidjinnagni
When you work in parallel, paraview automatically subdivide your data in
many pieces according with the number of processors you have.
If not you need to do that yourself by using D3 filter by example. Each
processor has a copy of you code and work separately on the piece
of data he has. Paraview by IceT collect and diplay the output but the
result is still on each process.
If you want to have the result on the the root you can collect the data
yourself to the node0.
If anytime you want to see the different data each process has you can apply
ProcessId filter.

Arolde.

Hi!
I?m not sure if I understood well how Paraview is working in parallel mode:
I have started Paraview in client/server mode, i.e. with
mpirun -np 8 ./pvserver
and then I started the client and connected.

I?m not sure how this works with filters: I?ve written a few filters, and
when I run Paraview in parallel, is the filter parallelized as well,
automatically? That on every piece of data the filter is applied separately
and necessary data of other pieces is send there by mpi? Or is the filter
computed on a single node and I have to change something in order to make it
work parallel?
Applying the ProcessId-Filter on the output of my filter, it says that it
was computed separately on every piece of dataset, I?m just wondering,
because the filter uses the whole dataset to compute the desired output..

thx for explaining,
Natalie

[Paraview] PARAVIEW_DATA ROOT - what is this?

2009-01-06 Thread Alexander A. Vakhrushev
Hi all!

I'm compiling ParaView3 by cmake on my Kubuntu 8.04.1 machine. I see
that PARAVIEW_DATA ROOT value is not found when configure the project.
What is that variable is used for? I didn't find it on the Web.

Thank you in advance!

[Paraview] (no subject)

2008-12-23 Thread ali-a beheshti
Dear All,I want to visualize flow around a complex pier using measured
velocities in the laboratory. Measured points are not structured and some
points have been measured randomly in position. I have used an
UNSTRUCTURED_GRID data set with ASCII format. Following is the structure of
used data set, # vtk DataFile Version 2.0Experimental Complex pier
flowASCIIDATASET UNSTRUCTURED_GRIDPOINTS 2508 float.. CELLS 2508
50161   01   1.. CELL_TYPES 25081    1
= (VTK_VERTEX).. POINT_DATA 2508SCALARS u float 1LOOKUP_TABLE default.. VECTORS
Velocities float.. When I try to show streamtracers and contour plots it is not
shown any streamlines or contours with this format. Is this a bug or am I doing
something wrong?  Thanks  Beheshti,

[Paraview] Save Data -> Temporal

2008-10-16 Thread Alessandro A. Bellina
Hello All,
I have an Exodus II file that has 3D temporal information stored. I am
interested in taking a slice of the 3D data, transforming it to a different
orientation, and then comparing it with 2D data from an analytical solution
(also stored in an Exodus II file). I can't seem to get the calculator to
work, I've tried two calculators to rename the variables and then another
one to substract the two, but I am in no luck. I was going to try to save
data from Paraview into an intermediary format, that perhaps would be better
understood by the calculator. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Alessandro
