Re: Another Bike Photo
Yeah, could be. Some mountain biker types wear regular road shorts under looser ones. There's also a sort of thin undergarment available that does the same thing. And, as you said Tom, you can buy mountain biking shorts that are loose, but still have the chamois (which is what the pad that everyone's interested in is called, because on early bike shorts, it was actually made of chamois leather). cheers, frank "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. Re: OT: Re: Another Bike Photo
That's the problem. Never, ever, sit on the seat when you go over rough terrain. The man in the picture appears to be sitting. This reinforces the premise that the picture is posed and the bike is not descending those steps - at the time the picture was taken anyway. Perhaps that's why it's been taken, or cropped, so close -- to hide the man holding the back wheel. No credit due my way Frank.. I found it in the aus.bicycle newsgroup under the topic "MTB'er descends stairs :)". The fella who posted it there said it was from this thread on bikeforums.net http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=26701&page=19&pp=15 and discussion in the newsgroup mentioned it might have been some Incan/Mayan/Aztec thingo. I thought an interesting little discussion was on why he was going down the stairs instead of the smooth bit in the centre, to which someone said 'why did whoever built it even put a smooth bit in the centre', to which somebody helped with a projected visualisation of 2 fellas pushing a wheelbarrow up the stairs.. Re: Re: Another Bike Photo
Well, it figures that Tanya would focus in on ~that~ portion of the photo, eh? I'm pretty sure you're right, Ryan. It looks like underneath his gnarly loose-fitting shorts he's wearing real bike shorts (you know, the tight spandex ones). They have what's known as a "chamois" (although they've not been made of chamois leather for a long time) in the crotch, to act as padding, but more importantly to absorb moisture. Any other questions? -frank the road bike guy. "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true." -J. RE: OT: Re: Another Bike Photo
That is a freaking amazing shot!! Are those ~stairs~ he's riding down? Back when I had a mountain bike, I'd fly down one or two flights of no more than 10 in front of some of the office buildings here in town, but nothing like that. Hope all his fillings are in tight. Did you take that one, Ryan? What lens was used? Looks pretty wide. cheers, frank "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true." -J. Re: OT: Another Bike Photo
Hi, you have the makings of a really good essay or exhibition there, Frank. You could certainly get it published in specialist magazines round the world if you can write some text to go with it. I'm a very inactive member of a cycling pressure group in London called 'London Cycling Campaign'. They issue a 2-monthly magazine called 'London Cyclist'. Your essay would go very well in the magazine, I think. I don't think they'd pay much, if at all, but it would look great on a CV and be a real ego-booster. http://www.lcc.org.uk/ -- Cheers, Bob Wednesday, January 14, 2004, 11:26:54 PM, you wrote: > http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2051027 > Printed full frame (hence the black abatement), so I know cropping will > help. Re: Another Bike Photo
I really like this one Frank. Great framing and composition. Nice contrast. And of course it's a pretty picture of a girl and her dog. Good job.
