[pestlist] Lethal temps for Red Legged Ham Beetles
Has anyone done any research into lethal temperatures for red legged ham beetles Necrobia rufipes? I have Tom Strang's fatal temperature list and these guys are not on it unfortunately. Dear Rebecca, why don't you consider of using anoxia method to eradicate insect pests in you museum ? By means of VELOXY, any specie of insect will die in few weeks of expositio to anoxia; no matter of their stage of life (adult, egg, larva, pupa). This convergence of many species showing complete mortality at 55C and above within short exposure times should give you confidence that 55C will kill N. rufipes as well. Deciding if you could get by using a lower temperature would be the more difficult decision. The ham industry continues to apply for Methyl Bromide critical use registration to control Red Legged Ham beetle (Copra beetle), Necrobia rufipes.
