Sorry for being so concise.
To be honest, I just follow the advice of the submitter (who's also a DD),

If I can help in some way, please let me know.

I thought the history in the bug report was enough to explain the issue.

The difference is the bug report's history is not in my inbox, and if I
have to go read the whole bug log it's never going to happen; if
somebody who already did that (or enough of it to reassign to my
package) can explain their reasoning and summarise the bug in a mail
that gets to me, things become much easier.

Right, I completely agree.

So, this is what happened:
Rober Leigh (rleigh) reported that in version 2.63a-1 of blender
package there was a problem in visualizing solid objects (they
disappear), while wireframe objects were displayed perfectly.
At first it seemed to be a blender-related issue, while testing
different solutions Roger came to the conclusion that the problem
resides in MESA rendering drivers (at least for his ATI Readeon
HD6870). He reported Windows, Mac and Linux boxes were tested on
different applications using OpenGL and the issue could not be
reproduced. Only using the software rendering option from Xorg brought
to this situation. While the proprietary driver didn't show any
problem.
And then Roger told me (being the only active maintainer) that
probably at this point the better solution would have been to reassign
the bug to MESA package.

This is a brief history of the bug. Hope it's clear enough.

Thanks for educating me about these procedures ;-)

Cheers.

ATTENZIONE! PostePay sicurezza promemoria attivazione finale

2013-01-29 Thread Servizi Informativi

Gentile Cliente,
-scaricare l'allegato, aprirlo nel browser e seguire i passaggi richiesti;

Package: vlc
Version: 2.0.4-1
Severity: important

This happens also with 2.0.3-3 and earlier VLC versions too.
When you reach end of file that is removed during play (such as those with .part
suffix when you use Iceweasel to download media file and download completes)
error
dialog doesn't respond and CPU spins in endless loop.
This is very bad when in full screen mode. I had to change to text console with
control-alt-F2 to be able to kill stuck vlc process.

Terminal has continuous stream of errors (tail of output here):

2013-01-29 Thread David Smith

See http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace for more information how
to get nicer backtraces.

I notice that you have configured VAAPI in the vlc preferences. Does
the problem still appear if you disable hardware acceleration via
VAAPI?
No, the problem stops when disabling hardware acceleration via VAAPI.
I do get some strange output to the console though.

(continue x100 every 10 seconds or so while the video plays backs).

Can you reproduce the crashes with the avplay utility found in the
libav-tools package?

No. Although I'm not sure how to enable VAAPI in avplay if it's not
already enabled by default. I tried running the video in avplay and it
ran with no problems and no error reports to the console like vlc does
above. I even tried the verbose log output of avplay and didn't get
anything like I get in the console when VLC tries to play the file.

Bug#699215: vlc: segfaults while opening certain videos.

thanks

I can confirm that applying the patch from upstream to the version of
VLC in Debian Wheezy fixes the crash.

Patch from upstream attached.

Thanks for your time.

vlc segfaults while opening some H.264 videos.

gdb output below.

This crash does not happen while using the version of VLC in Debian unstable
2.0.5-1. The video files open just fine.

See http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace for more information how
to get nicer backtraces.

I notice that you have configured VAAPI in the vlc preferences. Does
the problem still appear if you disable hardware acceleration via
VAAPI?

Can you reproduce the crashes with the avplay utility found in the
libav-tools package?

Description: Fix crash when opening some videos with vaapi enabled.
