Bug#614911: vlc : Can't close window when playing a video

2011-02-24 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.7-2
Severity: normal

If I play a video (tried Ogg/Theora, FLV, MP4 etc) with vlc and hit
the close window button in the top right corner (or do Quit via the
right click menu or using COntrol-Q) the video stops playing, but the
window doesn't close. The only way I can close the window is sending
Control C, waiting for a second or two and then do Control C again.

However, if I play an audio file (tried Ogg/Vorbis and WAV) the close
window function works correctly.

So, a status update. We've now scheduled binNMUs for all the reverse
dependencies other than those with pre-existing FTBFS issues; ignoring
packages where we're just waiting for mips, the current issues are:

* amide - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614725)
[ * blender, dvswitch - waiting for cmake ]
* cherokee - RC-buggy and FTBFS (#612482); looking like a removal
candidate
* elmerfem - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614952)
* ffmpeg2theora - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614996)
* freej - FTBFS (#614458)
* gdcm - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614953)
* kino - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614954)
* ktoon - FTBFS (#614446)
[ * libavg - FTBFS (#580678); not in testing ]
* libvalhalla - FTBFS due to build-dependency issues (#614989)
* mediatomb - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614956)
* openmovieeditor - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614957)
* openscenegraph - FTBFS (#614467)
* qutecom - not getting built on armel due to a dependency chain that
ends up in the rasqal ickiness
* smilutils - FTBFS (no-add-needed, #614958)
* xine-lib - FTBFS due to X changes (#610635)

Regards,

Adam

Which Window manager do you use ?
Which vlc interface do you use ?

Under Gnome I can't reproduce with qt4 interface. I can kindof reproduce
with -I rc or -I dummy. It doesn't close if I close the vout but then it
close cleanly after resp. typing q or ctrl+c

Bug#614911: vlc : Can't close window when playing a video

Standard Gnome desktop so thats the metacity window manager I believe.

Help -> ABout says:

   This version of VLC was compiled by:
pbuilder on deep-thought (Feb 7 2011 22:25:27)
   Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-10)
   You are using the Qt4 interface.

Hmm, that's strange. I already tried moving my ~/.config/vlc/
config directory out of the way, and that didn't help.

I'm a reasonably advanced coder and also a DM so I know how to
build packages etc. Is there anything you'd like me to try?

Cheers,
Erik

Look to me you were caught in the upload frenzy after squeeze release.

Is it still a problem ?

if yes, provide the output of:
apt-get update && apt-cache policy vlc vlc-nox libavcodec52 libavcodec-extra-52

Fixed in git://git.videolan.org/vlc/vlc-1.1.git

So we can either wait for 1.1.8 or patch once the mkv transition is
launched.

Let's wait for the mkv transition. I've already placed a quilt patch in
our branch that is taken from there.
