Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2014-09-26 Thread pippin

Well, you know what I personally think about it: that advanced search is
so 90s, the word "advanced" itself is an insult and nothing you can do
to it will fix that.

"Expert search" or "Multi-factor-search" would be much more appropriate
term because they might actually scare ordinary users enough that they
keep their hands off that misconception of a feature :)

But yea, if you think of it as a configurable filter instead of a search
and the "advanced search" menu as a filter-configuration-setup-screen it
even makes sense :)

It's web interface only. There is no API for it.

While the GUI part of the advanced search will stay web only, I hope to
be able to provide access to saved searches through the regular browse

Move Artist Page controls back to top and fix magic wand position.
Make any custom field that has a title usable in hierarchy and enterable
in the db grid (does not have to have import action).
- configured custom fields also now editable for selection of tracks in
edit window (on 2nd tab).
Add Classical Periods & Homelands to hierarchy options under classical
music mode - very useful if using the composer roster.
- note you can use custom fields for "Work" (and "Sub-Genre") & use in
the hierarchy too - eg. "Rite of Spring", "5th Symphony"
Add album/disk subheader fields to edit fields window (2nd tab).
Expand node in hierarchy tree now evaluates next fixed level
properly - ie. just skips the level.
Show entries in hierarchy tree for blank values for custom fields.
Sub-level title added to hierarchy tree.
Handle multiple item selection at hierarchy sub-levels.
Multi-track Edit window shows a field with light grey text if set for
SOME fields and BLANK/NULL for others.
Custom columns included in swap/copy multi-track db control.
Added filetype&bitrate to hierarchical view
Fix Organisation db column control.
"By Similar Artists" section shows non-full albums as well as full

Option to group by Album on db grid.

You could use a dock that also charges the iPad. There are no more
connectors on the iPad :)
There's a somewhat outdated blog post on my web site when it's back up
again :)

Apple gives no official information whatsoever on this, no wonder, it's
not their implementation and results will vary wildly based on the DAC
you use.
The connection to the DAC is a normal USB audio protocol, I have no idea
what exact format is being used there but it will certainly be some kind
of PCM.
AirPlay uses ALAC for all transmissions.

There is also HDMI over lightning connector which will uses other
properties, depending on what the accessory implements. All of this
entirely depends on the accessory implementation, the only limitation
that resides on the iThingy side is the limitation of the supported
audio formats, in iOS 7 this was 96kHz, 24 bits, in iOS 8 I actually
don't know. Internally iOS supports metrics of up to 192 kHz, 32 bits
(although that doesn't mean this is actually what's being used, you just
can configure this as the reference frequency).

Hi,

this is a real offtopic question, cause its a basic feature - even
Winblows is handling file/folder permissions - so it doesnt belong to
this "big" unreadable Thread.

To folder /home/ is similar to the c:\user under Win 7/8 or
%USERPROFILE% under all Winblows Systems.
Only the User and the localadmin had rights to this - same under tux
that user mostly known as root can do that.

Under blows a localadmin can change the ownership of these Folders -
same under tux - again - its a basic feature.

"and creating a home directory for squeezeboxserver."
Thats no good - cause a User that acts as Service doesnt need a home and
should have any home.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Howto install/Setup Local-Player-plugin under Linux (debian/ubunto etc.)

2014-09-26 Thread DJanGo

The Main Reason for this Thread is that the 'Main Thread'
isnt readable for "beginner" questions anymore.

It would be helpful to use this thread for startup/Setup questions on
linux based LMS Systems and the "original" thread for further/deeper
questions.

What do you need?

* The User that starts LMS must be in the group audio to use
audiohardware.

Code:

sudo groups squeezeboxserver |grep "audio" || sudo useradd -G audio
squeezeboxserver

* Make shure that these librarys are installed:

Code:

apt-get install libmad0 libflac8 libvorbisfile3

* Open your Webfrontend and got to Settings:
http://lms:9000/settings/index.html

* Make sure to expand "show third party plugins" in the list.
Activate [x] Local Player and apply changes

* click Save, you will be prompted to reboot.
* Open the Advanced Tab in the Settings and activate under "Software
Updates" automatically check for Software updates"

Now everything should be fine if not go to the plugins Site /
Localplayer again and set
* debugging to ALL
* activate [X] Log and post the output from the logfile.

Yes, I meant audio. When the iPad is outputting to an external USB DAC,
is it using the lightning conductor? If yes, then the iPad is on
diminishing battery power which will need re-charging later on?

What format does the iPad send to the external USB DAC? PCM?

Is there a page, FAQ or otherwise, which has the answers to these types
of questions?

You mean audio?
iPad and iPhone 5 (and newer) can output up to 92 kHz, 24 bit when
connected to an external USB DAC with these capabilities.
Older devices can output up to 48 KHz, 24 Bit and AirPlay is always 48
KHz, 16 Bit but at 100% resolution (the volume information is
transmitted separately so you don't lose resolution when turning down
the volume like you do on the Squeezebox or traditional digital audio

I freely admit I don't understand what's going on with the permissions
for squeezeboxserver. I had all sorts of problems with local player and
LMS at first, only resolved by adding the squeezeboxserver to the audio
and to my own user group, and creating a home directory for
squeezeboxserver.

My suspicion is that I had to create a home directory because I needed
to add my own user group to squeezeboxerver so it could access all my
music (owned by me as a user so that other programs can access it as
well). The home directory seems not to be needed if the only group is
'nogroup'. I initially had to add audio to get a full list of devices
in the local player GUI, but I suspect this may not be necessary.

If someone out there understands how all these things inter-relate and
would summarise it, that would help some who are getting stuck.

Yes:

Code:

$ groups squeezeboxserver
  squeezeboxserver : nogroup audio

But the log said: "Home directory not accessible : Permission denied"

So I deleted the user from the audio group and readded it, restarted LMS
and now it works ... weird.

- *ASRock Ion 330* with Xubuntu 14.04.1 LTS running LMS 7.8.1 as
  music/video server
- *Boom* (master bedroom), *Radio* (master bathroom), Archos 35 Home
  Connect + SqueezePlayer (guest bathroom)
- *Duet* (living room) -> Parasound DAC 1500 -> vintage Wega Modul 42V
amp (with 42E equalizer, 42T tape deck, and Thorens TD 160 Mk II
turntable) -> Quadral Vulkan Mk II speakers
