In a recent magazine article in UK they were saying that Defender is not very good only picking up 75% of viruses in a test. They were advocating Kaspersky; the fact that they were offering it at a discount but were undoubtedly getting a cut may have influenced their decision. What anti-virus are you using? Do you still recommend Defender? Any thoughts or comments? I will be recommending one to the pensioners so will be going for one of the free ones. Thanks John Defender +1 Rather than expect an anti-virus Swiss-Army knife to provide total safety, I use several different vectors of protection. 1. Defender (and keep it up to date) 2. OpenDNS for DNS resolution 3. CryptoPrevent for Crypto-hijack thwarting 4. A constant, some would say annoying, reminder to all those I support to never open email attachments that they weren't already expecting to receive. Kaspersky has been my go to for the past 8 years or more. You can get a 3 pack license with rebate, for under 15 USD and it used to be free in the old days. I like how it hooks into chrome and will give you a heads up on a site not being safe to continue to but letting you still make a dumb mistake on your own if you so wanted to. RE: [NF] Anti-Virus Programs
Hi Andy, I don't intend to travel to India which is probably just as well - I had no idea that India was so restrictive! However I should have remembered my own comment from when I visited in 1991 as aircrew - we gave them bureaucracy and they raised it to an art form! I had to get 12 signatures before the flight plan would be cleared, wait 20 minutes for a met brief I'd already had from Lockheed and they wanted the serial numbers and rpm of each of the 4 engines :-) John John Weller 01380 723235 07976 393631 > I've used Norton - no complaints - for years, but now Defender+2 > > for pensioners who travel a lot (and many of us do!) - then you could try and > explain/recommend the stuff here: > http://www.indiamike.com/india/electronics-in-india-f15/portable-internet- > programs-for-online-security-t54467/13/ > ___ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/000901d28c32$841ea520$8c5bef60$@johnweller.co.uk ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice. Thanks to everyone for their replies. Interesting to see the wide variety in use, no one program seems to stand out which suggests that they are all pretty good. I'll definitely be looking at Sophos Home as that is the free version of the one we used when I first encountered anti-virus programs.
