Re: [Qgis-user] Using QGIS with ArcGIS
Hello Vincent, We have a well established ESRI environment for our desktop tasks, and a farily new Open Source environment for WebGIS. This means that we have the same data stored twice, both as ESRI FileGeodatabases and in PostGIS. We use FME to push data from ESRI -- PostGIS. Then we use QGIS for direct editing and QC of the data in PostGIS. We have some data collection over the web, storing data in PostGIS. Editing and QC this data is the main task where we use QGIS. Of course the best way would have been to store everything in just one place (PostGIS), hopefully we will go there in the future when ESRI handles PostGIS as god as QGIS does today. I have tried some 3:rd party plugins to read end editing PostGIS data in ArcGIS. But they where not as stable as QGIS. However, FME offers a stable converter between the to environments! We use: QGIS 1.8, ArcGIS 10.1 (just upgraded), FME 2012 and Postgres 8.4 with PostGIS. Regards, Viktor Kalén 2012/7/2 Vincent Picavet vincent...@oslandia.com: Hello, I am looking for some user feedback from people using ArcGIS and QGIS together. Particularly if you are using it with a native PostGIS backend. Questions I am interested in : * What is your actual setup ? (QGIS - WFST - ArcGIS, QGIS - ArcSDE, QGIS - PostGIS - ArcGIS, ...) * What data size do you handle ? * How does it behave performance-wise ? * What specific features of QGIS and / or ArcGIS do you use and why ? Any pointers to online reports on the matter welcome. I'll try to gather and share the answers I get if allowed. [Qgis-user] Bookmarks - How to share to other users?
I just noticed that bookmarks in QGIS is not stored inside the QGS file (as it is in ArcGIS MXD:s). This means that if I create bookmarks in one QGS file, I can access them from any other QGS file. This also means that another user cant see my bookmarks, even if she uses the same QGS file as where I created the bookmarks. So, is there a way to store the bookmarks in the QGS file instead? Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS farm application
Hi, Must say this sounds very intresting! I like youre idea! I have som experience of using PostGIS to QGIS and must say I'm impressed (comming from an ESRI environment). I don't hav any experience in SpatialLite, but maybye this is the way to go for an easier start. For PostGIS there are some really useful plugins for QGIS wich helps in managing the database (maybye there are similar plugins for Spatial Lite?) The one I use the most is called PostGIS manager. Here you can upload dbf tables to your database. I guess you can easaly export from OpenOffice to dbf? Good luck! This involves mapping of points (e.g. fencepost) lines (e.g. irrigation tube) and polygons (e.g. grazing paddock) and all related data across time, to show in a graphic way how present configuration of resources compares to a snapshot at any point in time past (i.e. historical facts) or future (i.e. planning scenarios). I am using a spreadsheet (OpenOffice Calc) to record actual data values, build history,, and project what-if scenarios. Presuming that QGIS is the best tool for managing vectorial data about how these facts map onto the ground, then what is the best way of integrating data from these two applications, i wonder? Being not so technically inclined, i am quite apprehensive about introducing a RDBMS into the mix (i see the PostGIS layer option available, and gather that this enables connection to a Postgres db, which i know can host our spreadsheet data, but…) Well: if this means there will be less hassle about keeping data integrated between our GIS and our spreadsheets, then i might bite the bullet and do it. What do you think? If anyone here has anything to recommend, or any relevant experience to share, i would be very grateful to hear about it. Thanks for listening! I've now downgraded to QGIS 1.7.3 and WMS/WFS works fine again. As I can se from the answers theres only problems on Windows 7, 64 bits. But for some it works fine even on Win 7. I have ArcGIS 10 installed on the same machine, mabye some kind of Python conflict? Anyways, I'll be using 1.7.3 meantime.
