[q] Zip conundrum

2004-09-16 Thread Ben Berry
The only way I can seem to get a Zip disk to share between a Quadra 610
running 7.5.5 and BW 10.3 is to use FAT formated disks. Anyone know a
better way?

7.5 is hfs while 10.x is hfs+ or ufs. if you are trying to take files to
7.5 from 10.x then format drive w/7.5.
since i don't have my beige g3 handy, does the floppy work in os 10.x? A
vague spark in the back of my brain says no.

I know all about the hfs+ issue and thats not it. If i format it hfs on
the 7.5.5 machine OS X tells me it unreadable, and visa versa.

OS X supports USb floppies and recall there is a hack to get internal
ones to work but no OS X supported machine has a floppy drive except
the beige g3 right?

Is this just an a problem with OS X? Have you booted the OS X machine
into OS 9 and tried to see if the Zip drive can read the disks from the
Quadra Zip? The problem could simply be do to differences in the Zip
drives and have nothing to do with the OS that is running.

Re: [q] Zip conundrum

2004-09-16 Thread macsonly
another thing to try, if this is a one shot attempt, is to put the hard
drive in the g3 to copy files to as a test.
also, i wonder if the zip drivers for 7.5 and 9/X had a big change? or
try another drive to copy files to and temporarily replace the q610
cdrom drive while moving files.

[q] Legality of imaging OEM software

2004-09-16 Thread Powermac
I was wondering how legal it is to aquire a backup of the OEM cd that came
with the 840av (which I do not have since it is second hand). The OS was 7.1
pro (I think) which I don't think is available from Apples website (they
skipped over it). I believe the CD that shipped was specific for the 660av
and 840av, which is what I want to test out.
