Re: [Quantum Owners] Headlining
I recently lost patience with it and dug out my old knackered angle grinder with a flap sanding disc on it. The result was me rushing out to buy a new angle grinder I then got the main roof section all cleaned up in about an hour. That’s an hour lying on my back with my neck on the edge of the parcel shelf..holding 3.5 kg of angle grinder above my head. I hurt today. My car had the factory fitted grey headliner on it, so no separate backing. The original builder used the Fiesta sound deadening on the floor, stuck down with something very sticky and jig-sawed together with carpet tape. Most of it came off with a scraper but I’ll still have to go over it with the sanding disc. I’ve only recently finished removing the original owners idea of soundproofing, he had used multiple layers of old carpet stuck down with the strongest glue i’ve ever come across. It must have taken me at least a week of work spread across the 10 years to get it all removed with cheisels and scrappers. You may find that a hot air gun will soften the glue and make things easier but not too hot, you don’t want to damage the fibreglass. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 Alloy wheels
Having an odd fifth road wheel. Not sure if Quantum spare wheels are all carried in a wheel well in the boot possibly some have the spare underneath the boot. Either way if you put wider wheels on the car the spare may not fit in its proper place. Some owners use a narrower tyre as a spare. This usually has a distinctive marking and use is restricted to emergencies -Original Message- From: 'Steve Kodź' via Quantum Owners Group To: quantumowners Sent: Thu, 12 Jul 2018 11:50 Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 Alloy wheels Martin, Before giving away the XR2 Pepperpot you might want to check if it is worth anything to someone with an XR2. These cars are getting rare, so a good condition original alloy wheel might be worth something to the right person. Regards, Steve On 11/07/18 23:41, 'Martin Hodnett' via Quantum Owners Group wrote: Thank you everyone for your input, very helpful indeed. I like these wheels, I can't imagine the car wearing anything else! I measured the width of the rim as 6" when I balanced them so most likely they are a 6J. I am changing the front brake calipers, when they arrive that is, and will check the inside of the rims for any other markings and numbers. That will be a major cleaning job! Regarding new wheels, I had specified the make, model and year of the car and been told that the correct offset would be applied at the time of ordering. I wasn't sure then about the J part of it but with your help, that is much clearer. Whatever I do, I must make sure they have four holes and not five to mount the wheels on the hubs. This is a whole world I never knew existed! Regarding plastic rings to centre the wheels Hans, mine do not have them at all. The wheels are a nice snug fit when pressed to the hub and hold well as the bolts are put in place. After I balanced the wheels, the wobble at around 60mph had gone. A very useful tip nonetheless and one I will bear in mind if I do change the wheels completely, the companies I looked at all mentioned rings and I wondered what they were for. I would be interested to find out more Robmirach. Apart from the non-matching and missing centre covers, I do not have a good spare either! The boot contains an original XR2 pepperpot wheel with a tyre size that does not match the rest. There is also a honking great nail through the tread that I hadn't notice in the last 15 years. If anyone wants the wheel, you are welcome - nail included! Thanks again. Martin -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group.
