Though I can imagine your polite reply: unfortunately this really
doesn't seem to be related to the daily failure of the MYSB connection
due to flawed software.

This is just a pretty weak and much delayed explanation for the total
MYSB disaster in Europe two weeks ago. E.g. it doesn't explain why
classic Squeezeboxes could still connect to MYSB while all SqueezeOS
based devices were not able to connect. Indeed the explanation even
denies this fact and talks of a general problem, not one related to
SqueezeOS devices.

Well at least they did comment after two long weeks of ignoring this.
Even if the comment is misleading and much too late.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Stream from the Squeezebox radio to the Squeezebox receiver

2009-12-14 Thread DigitalMitch

since the receiver is 'dumb' you need to use another control device to
program the alarms into the server.

This could be a controller (bundled with receiver as 'duet'), the web
GUI,SB Radio, SB touch or iPeng.

You'd need a controller or Touch to configure a receiver, or use the
Net:UDAP function (search for this as I'm not familiar).

I'll have to check out Erland's plugin. Although if the only option is

Use Information Screen plugin + applet if you like to switch between
screens.

Use Custom Clock applet which have a background mode to show the
cover art if you like to avoid switching.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Question about mysqueezebox.com requirement

2009-12-14 Thread toby10

BigPotato;492444 Wrote:
I'm pretty sure the Roku devices don't have the same requirements as a
SB regarding a server. The device may query a Roku server to check for
firmware updates, but the internet radio functionality and a web server
 for configuration is all built-in.

Way off topic, but this thread has pretty much run it's course
anyway

I had a chance encounter with a Roku user over the weekend at a Holiday
party. We were both eyeing the party hosts Hi-Fi gear, so I knew we
would hit it off. The conversation eventually turned to streaming
devices. She has two Roku players, when I told her I use SqueezeBox
players she slapped me and walked away.

I'm kidding :) But she did reveal some interesting tidbits about Roku
players that I think may answer how the Roku players can be utilized
absent a server. The two most glaring tidbits were:
1. Roku players are limited to a total of 18 presets/favorites
streams
2. Roku supports no third party Music Services (Napster, Pandora,
Last.fm, etc..)

Now, to be fair, she did say she only uses one model player (two of the
same players in her home), she's never connected them to her computer,
and she has not logged into the online Roku server in a LONG time. So
she may not be up on the latest Roku offerings, but was rather confident
the above issues were accurate in her usage.

Are these stated restrictions true? Maybe you Roku users could
comment?

If they are true then that probably explains why a Roku player can be
self managed within the player itself without need of a server. I'm not
knocking the simplistic architecture of Roku players, but I guess
simplicity has it's price: less configurable, less customizable, no
Music Services, limited presets/favorites, fewer choices.

I think it would be quite difficult to cram all of the SqueezeBox
features, benefits, customizations, Music Services (and management of
them), flexibility, etc.. into the hardware player itself. But then
this feature rich architecture does require connection to a server.

Advantages, disadvantages, and the associated price paid for each. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Imminent Return -- How to Fix Alarms? Search? Tone Controls?

2009-12-14 Thread tcutting

I too have had problems with the Radio's alarm function. I am NOT in
the EU, but in Southern California, USA.
PLEASE, if you have this issue, vote for bug 14870:
https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14870
At least this bug shows a target of 7.4.x, and is marked major.
Although I have a local server which runs 24/7, I believe my issue is
also with mysb.com. I was using one of the sound effects as my alarm
sound, and would not get an alarm probably 2 out of 5 days. The radio
would display the dialog to turn off the alarm, but no sound and no
indication of a problem. I then realized these sound effects actually
are accessed via mysb.com. I have since defined a local track on my
server to be my alarm sound, and it has worked daily for at least 2
weeks.
I also disagree with the previous poster that the alarm is not the
Radio's function... if not #1, then pretty darn close as the alarm
button would indicate! Face it, it's an internet clock radio (with
pretty darn good sound) - it NEEDS to do a good job as an ALARM CLOCK!
Let's make some more noise on bugzilla for this! (That is, Vote on the
bug... I only see 7 votes right now.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios get booted off of Mysqueezebox

2009-12-14 Thread erland

Do you have them configured to play synchronized ?

If not, does it cause any problem if they connect to SBS ?
As I've understood it they should switch back to mysqueezebox.com soon
as you select some mysqueezebox.com related menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Question about mysqueezebox.com requirement

2009-12-14 Thread CECat

Yes and no. Depends which Roku device you're talking about.

The Roku Radio is as described -- it does have an AM/FM radio in
addition to wireless internet radio, which has 18 presets that can be
programmed. The radio does not play other sources aside from internet
radio, which is fine with me but may be a drawback for other users.
Internet radio is all I want for my clock radio; they can keep the AM/FM
as far as I am concerned as well, since we live in an area with zero
reception. It can be controlled totally from my computer, if desired,
but computer is not necessary.

The Roku Soundbridge devices, which have no speakers, send music from
other sources through your stereo as well as internet radio. WMA, MP3,
AAC, AIFF, ALAC, and WAV music formats are supported. Also can be
controlled from same interface on computer, but not necessary unless you
are playing a source that is stored there.

I don't use any of these services, but they claim to support the
following: Rhapsody, Napster, Walmart.com, MusicMatch, MusicNow, and a
number of others. Didn't see LastFM listed, but didn't look real hard.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Question about mysqueezebox.com requirement

2009-12-14 Thread BigPotato

On the face of it the Roku M1000 series (the only ones I'm familiar
with) seemed to have a number of advantages over the correponding
SlimDevices offerings at the time (SB1).

1. Configure and access internet radio stations without a server
2. Access local uPnP servers
3. Play PlaysForSure media

Since they also implemented the SlimProto, you could also use them with
a local SlimServer.

However, the Roku firmware was always a step behind the Slim stuff and
my personal experience was that the SlimDevices were far more reliable.
Since PlaysForSure is dead and the SqueezeBox Server software is better
than most (all?) uPNP/DLNA servers, the only real advantage of the Roku
is that you can access a limited number of radio stations without a
server. However, the web configuration screen is primitive and the Roku
firmware hasn't been updated in long time. Being able to access a radio
station was pretty hit and miss in my experience, with no recourse if it
didn't work.

In the end my Roku's are gathering dust, but my original SB1 is still
in use.
