[RBW] Re: New Year's Day, NBD!

2024-01-01 Thread Kim H.
Congratulations Joe on your NBD on New Year's Day !

The RBW Blue is such a fantastic color. She is a beauty ! I am sure that
you are, if not already have fallen in love with it. Every time I walk by
mine here in my home, a 52cm Blue Clem, I admire it every time. I am very
delighted to own one.

What size is it ? 59cm ? ..or ?

I am certain that you will find it a real fun bike on and off road.

I'm looking forward to your periodical ride reports in and around Clear
Lake.

Long my you ride with smiles and joy in your heart.

All my best,
Kim Hetzel.

[RBW] Re: ROADINI in South Pasadena

2024-01-01 Thread Tony Lockhart
Apologies if flashing GIF is annoying; you can tell that both bikes are
VERY similar in size. The Leo rides just as predictably as the Sam, with
minimal differences. Out of the saddle climbs are more efficient on the
Leo, and it's not as squirrely with steering as the Sam on slow rolls. The
Leo tracks a lot better. I will say that the Leo was immediately familiar
with all of the best riding characteristics just like the Sam. Very curious
to see how the Leo handles on 40mm tires.

NYC, to Las Vegas, to Michigan and now to California this bike has lived
quite a life and doesn’t look any worse for the wear, I’d say.

Enjoy and put some marks on that thing.

[RBW] Platypus or Clem - Please help me choose

2024-01-01 Thread SeanMac
Hi everyone. Happy New Year!

I am the proud owner of a grey Cheviot. One of the reasons that I
purchased that bike was to ride on bike trails near me (such as the Erie
Canal Trail) with my wife. She and I have done a bit of riding together.
However, as I am a more experienced cyclists, she sometimes gets frustrated
with me. Happily, riding my Cheviot has helped me to slow down and enjoy
the ride with her.

My wife has been riding a Trek hybrid bike that is at least 30 years old.
I would love for her to get something new for our rides together. She is
on-board with this idea (much to my delight). A new Rivendell seems to be
just the ticket to more quality bike time - for her alone and for us
together. The question, of course, is which model would be the best choice.

Given that I have a Cheviot, a Platypus for her was my first suggestion. I
sense that it rides pretty similarly to my Cheviot - plush, stable and
relatively quick once it gets going. However, my wife was a bit surprised
by the price tag of the Platty, and began to focus on the Clem. When she
asked why the Clem was less expensive I spoke about the lugs, but didn't
know what else really differentiated the two bikes. This is why I am
reaching out to the group.

I would be grateful if folks on the list who are familiar with both the
Clem and Platypus would provide some additional insight into the
differences between the two models. I think that either bike would meet my
wife's needs. However, thoughts on which would best meet those needs are
much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean
Buffalo, NY

I did a couple rides around and up Mount Diablo to finish up 2023. The
ride around Mount Diablo actually features steeper climbing than the ride
up Mount Diablo, but they are both a good day's work. I'm going to take a
run at a Mount Diablo summit on Thursday.

For the type of riding you describe either will work. Since it is for her
she should go with whichever speaks to her more. Perhaps a higher price
will make her treat it more delicately and perhaps ride it less OR perhaps
because the Platy is fancier she will wan to ride it much more. Either way
there is no wrong answer as far as quality of product or ride.

[RBW] Touring tire & Happy new year

2024-01-01 Thread Bernard Duhon
I first, wish my biker friends a happy new year!

I am new to the list and enjoy the tales & profit from the advice.

On the touring tire subject I was over thinking it. Just cause I have a great
set up my touring bike (26 inch Marathon Supremes) Doesn't mean the
Gravelkings sitting in the garage won't do just fine and fresh tires are always
a good idea.

Happy riding

[RBW] FS - Two used large canvas saddlebags

2024-01-01 Thread 'Bikie#4646' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hey all, I have a serious bike bag addiction. So, bumping these two fine
but overlapping ones out of the nest in order to buy more! Both show some
age and usage, but are in fine condition with no problems. Either will
serve you well. (I'd put my money on the Carradice outlasting you unless
you are 20 yrs old!)
PM me if any questions or comments. And, forgive my cross-posting on
another list.
Thanks,
Paul Germain
Midlothian, Va.

*FS - Acorn Large Black Waxed Canvas* saddlebag with tan leather straps,
ca. 2014 (model). I am original owner. Approx. 7L capacity, 15"w x 7"h x
6"d, 30 oz. / 850 g. In very good shape with a minimum of fade, no scuffs
or tears. A number of places on the outer flap were pierced for state park
pins, noticeable outside and inside the flap, upon close inspection. This
2014 model included a leather standoff to keep bag off the seat post and
two side pockets with turnbuckle closures. I have priced it at 1/2 the 2014
price (without shipping costs).
$70, net to me, shipping cost paid by buyer. (From zip 23113) Prefer Zelle
payment but could do Pay Pal.

*FS - Carradice Junior Saddlebag*, black canvas, white leather straps. No
outside pockets on this model. I am original owner of this bag, purchased
from Harris Cyclery in 2007. 9L capacity, 30cm wide x 18cm high x 15 cm
deep. Weight, 440g. A number of places on the outer flap were pierced for
state park pins, noticeable outside and inside the flap, upon close
inspection. In very good shape with a minimum of fade and no scuffs or
tears. The white leather straps show superficial cracking on the outside
surface, which is usual for all the Carradice bags I have owned.
$45, net to me, shipping cost paid by buyer. (From zip 23113) Prefer Zelle
payment but could do Pay Pal.

 Hi everyone. Happy New Year!

I am the proud owner of a grey Cheviot. One of the reasons that I
purchased that bike was to ride on bike trails near me (such as the Erie
Canal Trail) with my wife. She and I have done a bit of riding together.
However, as I am a more experienced cyclists, she sometimes gets
 frustrated
with me. Happily, riding my Cheviot has helped me to slow down and enjoy
 the ride with her.

My wife has been riding a Trek hybrid bike that is at least 30 years
old. I would love for her to get something new for our rides together.
She is on-board with this idea (much to my delight). A new Rivendell
 seems
to be just the ticket to more quality bike time - for her alone and for us
together. The question, of course, is which model would be the best
 choice.

Given that I have a Cheviot, a Platypus for her was my first
suggestion. I sense that it rides pretty similarly to my Cheviot - plush,
stable and relatively quick once it gets going. However, my wife was a
 bit
surprised by the price tag of the Platty, and began to focus on the Clem.
When she asked why the Clem was less expensive I spoke about the lugs, but
didn't know what else really differentiated the two bikes. This is why I
am reaching out to the group.

I would be grateful if folks on the list who are familiar with both the
Clem and Platypus would provide some additional insight into the
differences between the two models. I think that either bike would meet
 my
wife's needs. However, thoughts on which would best meet those needs are
 much appreciated.

 Thanks,
 Sean
 Buffalo, NY
