[Samba] Add Printer Wizard- The specifcied network password is not correct.

2004-02-07 Thread samba . 20 . gctaylor
I'm trying to get the Add Printer Wizard to add printers
from a WinXP Pro workstation and am gettting the error
"Unable to install IBM 4037 5E, Windows 2000 or CP,Intel
driver. The specificied network password is not correct."

This is a new installation of Debian 3.0 and Samba 3.0.1-2.

This is the procedure that I use:

Browse to the Samba server
Open the Printers and Faxes folder
Right-click inside the printers and faxes folder.
Click "Server Properties"
Go to Drivers tab
Click Add, Next, and Choose Have Disk
Browse to my printer driver files.
Click Next and choose driver versions.

At this point it looks like it is copying the files, but
right at the end I see the error message.

Here are portions of smb.conf, log files, and test results.

I can access the Samba server via \\server\print$ and create

Does anyone have any ideas? I may have to use rpcclient but I'd like

[Samba] samba + ADS + hostname problem

2004-02-07 Thread Steve Mustaine
Hi,

	here's the deal:

i succeed in joining a samba server to ADS, wich is,

wbinfo -u
wbinfo -g
wbinfo -t
getent passwd
getent group
kinit
net ads join
all work when i try to connect from a windows domain member using
\\ everything works fine and i can access the shares, depending
on my valid users parameters, of course. But when i try to do the same thing
by issuing \\ or browsing Network Neighborhood it doesn't even
show the shares complaining "\\ is not accessible" or
something like that. If i try to 'ping ' from the same windows
box the resolution goes fine.
i saw other postings about this but it isn't clear whether it's a samba bug
or misconfigured parameters.

Any tips??? perhaps something is not being reported correctly to the master
browser...

Thanks in advance...

What's the script doing?

As you not only upgraded Samba, but the whole OS, I would look for
issues like network-config, duplexing and such first.

How fast is your standard copy-to-samba-share for instance?

--

It is nice to tell us about your shiny new hardware, but this is
obviously not your bottleneck.

Maybe it is just your new NIC set to halfduplex-10mbit ;)

In short words, this might not be a Samba-topic at all.

Look for basic network-config first.

Setting up iptables is a bit off topic. Here is a link to a site with some
good tutorials. Please set up iptables in a test environment before setting
it up on your production network.

[Samba] Firewall IPtables to use the SAMBA server

2004-02-07 Thread Eric Nist
Hi,

This question is about how to set up the firewall iptables in
sysconfig? I have my firewall set to high and have no luck connecting
to the SAMBA server (a low firewall works fine). I feel this is because
the port is being blocked. I used Lokkit to generate the iptables and
set the level to high. I also found on the SAMBA site what ports are
used, unfortunately I don't know what to add to the iptables file.

Suggestions?

Eric

Trust me.

~ stop smbd, nmbd, winbindd
~ rm secrets.tdb and sambaDomain object
~ restart smbd and you will have a new domain sid.

2004-02-07 Thread ug200301058

RedHat 7.2 . I have been trying to set my PC such that can be
mounted / accessed from every other PC in the lab but am unable
to do so. I am also unable to share my files over the network.
I read the 'smb.conf' file and did required changes . When i
access this PC from other PC's , it comes to connecting menu but
does not accept any passwd. Moreover, my PC does NOT have any
/etc/samba/smbpasswd file.
What do I do ??

I used interfaces and bind interfaces only.

My setup is as follows,

Host1 and Host2 are connected back to back. Now if Host1 has samba
binded to private IP, Host2 cannot connect to it. There is no firewall
on private interface.

But if Samba listens on public IP, host1 can connect. I was wondering
if samba binds itself to hostname like in windows.

[Samba] samba binded to private IP

2004-02-07 Thread Anshul Gupta
Hi Everyone,

Is it possible for samba to bind to private IP only? When I binded
samba to private IP it serves the requests locally on that machine but
the client on local network cannot connect to samba server via private
IP. There is no firewall on private interface.

When I commented the interfaces parameter (listening on all
interfaces), I was able to connect to public IP of machine from clients
on local network.

Does samba bind itself to hostname automatically? uname -a shows the
hostname associated with public IP. I am using Samba
2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix.

Thanks,
Anshul

Hello,

This is not the right place to report issues. You should check with
KDE guys.
As far as i know, the feature you're using has very few developers
working on it, as it was initially developed by Caldera.
By the way, i suppose you're using Samba 2.2.
I know this is really buggy.
To solve your issues:
  - Upgrade de Samba 3 (Or at least libsmbclient from Samba 3)
  - Upgrade to KDE >= 3.1.4, compiled with kio_smb libsmbclient support.

This is my setup and it works rather fine.

Regards,

Fabien Chevalier
