Still [Samba] Problems with Samba 2.2.7 and Mac OSX?
(Some more info) I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 2.2.8 now (updated from 2.2.7).. I've turned log levels to 10... I have a user who needs this machine to do her job, and she uses Mac OS X, the latest 10.2 updates have been applied. She routinely cannot connect to this box, and gets an error -36, which means she needs to reboot every time she gets this. The logs show *NOTHING* when she tries to connect and gets a -36. The machine is properly joined to the domain, and I can reach it from any of my Windows boxes. She has VERY spotty connections to this... we've set her NetInfo domain to be the proper name, she can *ping* the Samba server in question, she can SSH to it, but just keeps getting these annoying -36 errors. Even updating this to 2.2.8 hasn't fixed anything... Please--she's getting very upset about not being able to work, and I'm getting upset that I don't know Macs well enough to help her out more (she's basically our only OS X user).. is there anyone out there who's had similar problems getting OS X to talk to Samba? Help? Thanks, G. Reset the computer account in the 2k domain and rejoin the domain using: smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DOMAINPDCSMBNAME -UAdministrator%password Once that's done try: wbinfo -t If it says "Secret is good" then you're set to go.. [Samba] Canon ImageRUNNER 600, Samba and LPRng
Hi everyone, A few days ago, on the LPRng mailing list, I posted a weird problem with our Canon ImageRUNNER 600 and LPRng... turns out it's not a problem with LPRng... rather, it's an issue with a slightly-misleading option for Samba printers, and a bug with Canon's PCL processor. In Samba, you have the option to say "Postscript = Yes", which doesn't mean "This is a postscript printer" but rather "this printer takes postscript all the time, so please add "%!" to the beginning of all jobs to it!" HP Printers are smart enough to see the PCL code in the job and go "Oh gee--this isn't really postscript... we'll just process it with PCL..." The Canon goes "Oh--oops--here's a %!.. must be plaintext cuz there's an Escape and some PCL.. I'll just print the "%!" and a pagefeed" So mystery solved... hopefully this will help others out there with the Canon ImageRUNNER class copiers--and Samba guys--can you change that option to say "Force Postscript"? *duck&run* :)) Thanks everyone! And thanks to Patrick Powell for the phone call today which put us on the right track to find the issue! :) I'm more than grateful for all the help and suggestions I get off of these two lists! Y'all rock! :) Sincerely, Glenn --- Glenn E. RE: [Samba] can't join a 2000 domain
A) Make sure you go into Active Directory Users and Computers, and *reset* the account for the computer who is trying to join the domain. B) On the samba server trying to join you type this as root: smbpasswd -j DOMAINNAME -r 2000SERVERNAME -U administratorondomain%adminpasswordfordomain It should then give you the desired effect :) Good luck!
