Hi,

Another weird thing I'm seeing on my logs is this message about registering
witha rootdse.

ldb: ldb_tdb: Unable to register control with rootdse!
ldb_wrap open of secrets.ldb

My server works normally, altough I'd like to know what this means.

Thanks.

[Samba] SAMBA don't start

2006-11-10 Thread Luc ROLLAND
Hello,

I can't connect to my SAMBA server.

Testparm not report error.

I test the IP settings,

I can Ping the server from any PC,

I can Ping the PC from the SAMBA server,

I can Ping Localhost or servername on the SAMBA server,

But when I do a 'ps -ef' only the smbd is started.

The 'log.nmb' report that :

'bind failed on port 137 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.

 Error = Adress already used.'

I work on a SAMBA 3.0.20a server on a SCO OpenServer 5.07 box with
maintenance pack 5.

Why the nmbd daemon don't start ?

I verify my configuration, but I don't find anything.

What can I do to fix the problem ?

Many thanks for your help.

Luc,

The 'log.nmb' report that :

'bind failed on port 137 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.

 Error = Adress already used.'

Well, there's your error... Some other process is using port 137
before you start nmb. Use netstat -l to check which process is using
that port :)

Cheers,

Well, to find out what version you are running, from a shell type smbd -V
and it will give you the version. You are on the right bus, but the right
settings for samba are related to the environment you are in, and what you
want to achieve. So probably you should post some more info on it.

There is...

First you should understand how Linux boots.
Read man inittab. inittab is the config file for init. init is the
first process started after loading the kernel.
Inside the file /etc/inittab you will see lines containing rc0 to rc6.
These tell init which scrips to start when entering a runlevel.
In /etc/init.d/ you will most likely find a script called smb. What you
have to do to make it start is to change into /etc/init.d/rc3.d and type
ln -s ../smb S11smb and ln -s ..smb K13smb then do this again in the
rc5.d directory.

If you are using SuSE you can use the runleveleditor that comes with yast.

Good luck,
 André.

2003-01-01 Thread Peter Caitens
I gave up on SWAT when I found Webmin worked pretty much the same. I cant
remember if I tried the command line to start it or not. As far as I can
remember I did everything the docs I found said and it still wouldnt run.

I have my Samba configured and runing as a PDC for both Win2K and WinXP
boxes. All of my configuration was done through straight editing of
smb.conf and using Webmin. Webmin does a very good job.

Disclaimer: I am am a linux newbie and still getting used to it. Once I
got something running I tend not to play with it too much in case it breaks
and I cant get it back :-)
