Re: Problem Installing Samba V2.2.8 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2

I'm wondering if I can just change the output name on the COPY command to SMB.CONF however, I thought I would pose the question to this group since it looks like others have successfully installed this on their systems and I don't see anyone reporting this error. I don't remember running across this error back in V7.3-2. Your suggestion seems reasonable, or perhaps all that really needs to be done is to find samba_root:[lib]smb.conf_template and rename it as samba_root:[lib]smb.conf before re-running the installation program again. Re: Installing Samba on VMS 7.3-1 using Multinet 4.4a

What we are wanting to do is store print files on our alpha and be able to view them through Word, Notepad, etc using Samba. We have an NT Domain. Every user has a domain account and an alpha account. I have been able to set up a share and see the share but I can not look or browse the files. Any suggestions to fix this problem. I do not recall seeing any response to this here, which is rare. The newsgroup comp.os.vms may also be of assistance. In the SAMBA distribution there used to be a Diagnostics.txt file with a list of things to test. There is also an FAQ that I posted to comp.os.vms and encompasserve.org last January. It does not cover the 2.0.3, but it does cover a number of items. http://www.google.com. In general the DOS net view, the SAMBA NMBLOOKUP, and SMBCLIENT should be used to verify connectivity. Increasing the DEBUG level on the SMBD process can sometimes show what the problem is. I have not actually done anything with SAMBA with about a year. -John [EMAIL PROTECTED] Personal Opinion Only PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT ETIQUETTE MESSAGE BEFORE POSTING: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
installing samba
I believe it is 2.0.6. I have copied the linked files to bin.alpha. Do I need to do anything else (my logicals are present)? No need to ask for forgiveness, I asked same questions when linking SAMBA 2.0.6. Don't know about your SYS$INPUT problem, but .exe_axp extension files are indeed executables, as OpenVMS doesn't need .exe extension for the executable files. Also are you linking SAMBA 2.0.6, or later. Frontport is not required for newer versions 2.2.4 or later. Kindly try to give at least version of your SAMBA in questions, it helps. Please forgive my ignorance (it has been over a year), what do I do next? I could not find it in the documentation.
