[Savannah-hackers] evaluation

2003-09-29 Thread D. E. Evans
The /evaluation/evaluation.html page that is currently in CVS is
not posting to gnu.org through the server's replication script.
Paul, our system admin, suggested there may be something within
savannah causing the difficulty. Could you check on this?

[Savannah-hackers] Getting Listed in Meta Search Engines

2003-09-29 Thread TrafficPost

GETTING LISTED IN META SEARCH ENGINES

Welcome to TrafficPost, an informative newsletter about search engine placement. Are
you interested in bringing more Internet traffic to your business? If you respond to
this email we will provide a free analysis of your Web site.

Meta search engines such as Ask Jeeves and Hotbot have become popular search tools.
This week's newsletter will talk about how meta search engines differ from regular
search engines and how to get listed in them.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A META SEARCH ENGINE AND A REGULAR SEARCH ENGINE?
Meta search engines are very different from regular search engines. The main
distinction is that meta search engines do not have their own databases. They do not
review Websites and they do not index them. Instead a meta search engine will perform
a query on many different search engines simultaneously. Your search terms are
automatically sent to the databases of other search engines like Alta Vista, Fast,
Look Smart, MSN, Open Directory, Overture, or Yahoo. The results pulled from those
search engines are merged together and presented as one unified set of results.

ARE META SEARCH ENGINES BETTER THAN INDIVIDUAL SEARCH ENGINES?
This is a difficult question to answer. If you perform your search on a single search
engine you will get a large number of results, but only Websites in that engine's
database will appear. Since meta search engines give you access to multiple databases
they often produce more varied results. Unfortunately, those results are also limited
since often only the top hits from each of the databases appear in the meta search
engine results.

The success of your Meta search query will depend on several factors. The status of
each individual search engine will affect your query. Busy servers, timeouts and slow
responses can all contribute to poor results on your search. Also, you cannot refine a
search on a meta search engines since they do not handle complex search queries
intelligently. They do not recognize search terms such as "and", "or", and "not".
Finally, not all major engines are accessible by meta search engines. Google, for
instance, says they do not allow their database to be searched by meta engines because
they claim that it would drain their resources.

HOW DO I GET LISTED IN META SEARCH ENGINES?
To get your site listed in a meta search engine your site needs to have been indexed
by the other search engines it pulls its results from. A good ranking in one search
engine can thus do double duty by getting you good ranking on meta search engines too.

OUR SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION PROGRAM
The best way to get noticed by the search engines is to use a professional search
engine placement service like ours. We use expertise and technological know-how to get
you top search engine placement:

1. Our professionally trained technicians help you to choose the 20 keyword phrases
that best reflect the main focus of your site.

2. We use those keywords to optimize your meta tags and build over 100 HTML
advertising pages designed to conform to the ranking criteria of the top search
engines.

3. Since many search engines now use link popularity in their rankings, we employ link
building strategies such as reciprocal link relationships with related businesses.

4. We manually submit your site to Web directories like the Open Directory Project.
(We do not submit to spider-based search engine because research indicates that these
types of search engines give preference to sites that their spiders find through
links.)

5. Our online client reporting system puts tracking information at your fingertips so
that you can monitor your site's progress.

6. Free customer support is always available for active clients through our toll free
customer support hotline. Active clients can check their search engine keyword
rankings with our online reporting system.

If you are not an active client and would like information on our Power Click Network,
search engine optimization services, or a free keyword analysis of your Web site
please respond to this email and include your name, phone number, and site URL.

You first need a valid key pair, see

http://www.tartarus.org/~simon/puttydoc/Chapter8.html#8.2 .

Then upload the public key to your Savannah account at

http://savannah.gnu.org/account/editsshkeys.php . Make SURE

you are pasting the key as a whole line, no cuts allowed.

Then let WinSCP know about you private key and ask him to

authentify via RSA/DSA. Set your 'home' or 'initial remote

folder' to /upload/your_project_name_here.

Login, upload.

Please redirect further requests to the WinSCP forum at

http://winscp.sourceforge.net/forum/ .

[Savannah-hackers] submission of porcinet - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-09-29 Thread julien

Un projet a été soumis à savannah.nongnu.org
Ce courriel a été envoyé à [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Julien Barnier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> a décrit le projet comme suit :
Licence: gpl
Autre Licence:
Paquet: porcinet
Nom système: porcinet
Type: non-GNU

Description:

http://www.nozav.org/informatique/porcinet/porcinet.py

Dépendances logicielles:
Python (version 2.2 testée)

Module Mysql-Python

[Savannah-hackers] ciabot on Savannah

2003-09-29 Thread Vincent Caron
Dear ciabot users/tweakers,

A modified version of Petr's Perl version of the script has been
written by Russel Smith (http://gpl.pws.com.au/ciabot/) in order it can
be globally installed on the Savannah hosting facility and used without
needing to upload scripts to the CVSROOT. Maybe upstream authors will be
interested by this simple patch, it looks rather sane to me to prevent
hard coding of per-project values.

Savannah users can simply invoke 'ciabot.pl' (and no longer
$CVSROOT/CVSROOT/ciabot.pl) with the new extended syntax :

ALL ciabot.pl %s $USER projectname from-mail to-mail

(to-mail should be [EMAIL PROTECTED] as a default)

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Please register your project again and include an (temporary) URL
pointing to the source code. The description you gave when
registering will not be read by the general public. If you are still
concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by
email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to
catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must
include a copyright notice and statement permitting copying at the
beginning of every file of source code. This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html. Our review would help
catch potential omissions such as these.

Please register your project once more with the changes
mentioned above.

We cannot track projects that have been answered but not approved, so
we must ask you to register the project whenever you change the
registration. Make sure to apply all changes so you need to reregister
only once.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgement of your earlier
registration will direct you to the proper location.

Regards,

[Savannah-hackers] submission of European Master on Free Software - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-09-29 Thread villate

A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Jaime E. Villate <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> described the package as follows:
License: fdl
Other License:
Package: European Master on Free Software
System name: masterlibre
Type: non-GNU

Description:
A group of European Universities in Madrid, Bordeaux and Porto have joined together to
launch a "European Master on Free Software". The project proposal was submitted to the
Madrid regional government, which rated it among the best proposals received,
providing some funding to help with its start-up.

We plan to release as Free Documentation all teaching and organizational material
related to this European Master, so other Institutions in other regions can benefit
from them. We also welcome any other Institutions who would like to join in the
project, which will be in a planning phase untill the end of 2003 and is due to
start after the Summer of 2004.

This project will be used to maintain the documentation repository of the Masters
Program and to coordinate its activities.

Other Software Required:
None at this point. We may need some in the future and of course it will all comply
with Savannah's policies.

Other Comments:
I (Jaime Villate) will play the main role in the administration of this Savannah
project.

The script that create that directory was working against a deprecated
symlink, removed.

I fixed that script, it should be ok after the next cronjob.

I think the /upload/netftpserver directory appears to be missing. I've
waited for 24 hours, but still can't upload.

I can upload fine into the other two Savannah projects that I have, so
I don't think it's a problem with ssh or keys.

So your project requires proprietary software and cannot be

[Savannah-hackers] [Savannah] emacs-rtf want to be a GNU package

2003-09-29 Thread savannah-hackers
Hi,

The following project was submitted to Savannah. It needs evaluation to
become a GNU package, can you give it a look, please ?

Submitter: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Project Full Name: Emacs/RTF
Project System Name: emacs-rtf
License: gpl
Approval URL: https://savannah.gnu.org/admin/groupedit.php?group_id=5359
Description: rtf.el --- reader/writer and writer for the Rich Text Format (RTF)

This package aims to implement the "Rich Text Format" (RTF), version

1.6, as a file format for GNU Emacs. It also provides the necessary

framework to edit RTF documents in an Emacs buffer.

This package is about _word_processing_, not about editing of source

code.

This package is in a very early state of development. Currently only

the reader is in the work, and only the main structure of it is

implemented. Some RTF documents are already rendered correctly,

though.

2003-09-29 Thread savannah-hackers
Hi,

The following project was submitted to Savannah. It needs evaluation to
become a GNU package, can you give it a look, please ?

Submitter: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Project Full Name: GNU/Linux System Architect Guide
Project System Name: architect
License: fdl
Approval URL: https://savannah.gnu.org/admin/groupedit.php?group_id=5358
Description: My project would be one of documentation. Rather than creating source
code packages I intend to show people how to use them.

I have already written The Pocket Linux Guide which is part of The Linux Documentation
Project. (http://www.tldp.org/guides.html) The guide shows how to find various free
software source code packages and assemble them into a small system. I would like to
expand upon this idea and build documentation that would show how to use GNU and other
similarly licensed packages to create interesting and useful systems.

I hope to enlist the help of volunteers from the Pocket Linux Guide mailing list (see
http://my.core.com/~dhorton/linux/pocket/ for more info) to generate ideas and provide
instructions on how to do this.

All documents would be released under the free documentation license.

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

qmail is a proprietary software, despite the fact that it's source
code is available -- the restriction are on the modification and
redistribution, which explain why the ldap support must be provided as
a patch.

So your project requires proprietary software and cannot be
hosted on Savannah for this reason.

Savannah is willing to provide resources and time to developers
writing Free Software that can be used without the need to ask
permission from proprietary software vendor.

Thank you for your understanding.
Regards,
