[spectre] december at 700MBG - SAVED IMAGES - Svetlana Mircheva

2011-12-01 Diskussionsfäden contact

everybody welcome to the opening:

SAVED IMAGES / SVETLANA MIRCHEVA / DECEMBER 2011
starting december 1st at the 700 megabyte gallery / www.700mbg.com

-

Finding something that has not been lost is probably one of the most
interesting things about working on a computer and with digital space in
general.
The artist presents one piece of her discovery that turned up while testing a
variety of recovery tools after she had lost her data from her harddrive.
Besides the question on how recovery can actually be understood as a process of
creation or remix there is an appealing statement about an unintentional and
experimental way of working: the artist as a gold-digger; rambling around
his/her microspace and every now and then being astonished about what he/she
finds in his/her familiar spheres.

Everybody welcome to get a first impression of the piece on our website.

-

best wishes,

[spectre] Networked Disruption: Rethinking Oppositions in Art, Hacktivism and the Business of Social Networking

2011-12-01 Diskussionsfäden Tatiana Bazzichelli

Ph.d-Defence Tatiana Bazzichelli:

Networked Disruption. Rethinking Oppositions in Art, Hacktivism and the
Business of Social Networking

5. December 2011, 14:00 to 17:00
Det lille Auditorium, Incuba Science Park, Åbogade 15, Aarhus
University, Denmark

Networked Disruption
Rethinking Oppositions in Art, Hacktivism and the Business of Social
Networking

In connection with the submission of her PhD dissertation Networked
Disruption. Rethinking oppositions in art, hacktivism and the business
of social networking to the Faculty of Arts at Aarhus University for
the award of a PhD degree in Information and Media Studies, Tatiana
Bazzichelli will publicly defend her research in an open forum, 14-17 on
Monday December 5, 2011, in Det lille Auditorium, Incuba Science Park,

Åbogade 15, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The objective of this research is to rethink the meaning of oppositional
practices in art, hacktivism and the business of social networking. By
identifying the emerging contradictions within the current economical
and political framework of Web 2.0, hacker and artistic practices are
analysed through business instead of in opposition to it. Shedding light
on the mutual interferences between networking participation and
disruptive business innovation, this research explores the current
transformation in political and technological criticism. After the
emergence of Web 2.0, the critical framework of art and hacktivism has
shifted from developing strategies of opposition to embarking on the art
of disruption. Disruption becomes a two-way strategy in networking
contexts, a practice to generate criticism, and a methodology to create

business innovation.

Connecting together disruptive practices of networked art and hacking in
California and in Europe, the author proposes a constellation of social
networking projects that challenge the notion of power and hegemony,
such as mail art, Neoism, The Church of the SubGenius, Luther Blissett,
Anonymous, Anna Adamolo, Les Liens Invisibles, the Telekommunisten
collective, The San Francisco Suicide Club, The Cacophony Society, the

early Burning Man Festival, the NoiseBridge hackerspace, and many others.

Examining committee:
Senior Lecturer Olga Goriunova, Dept. of Applied Social Sciences, London
Metropolitan University, United Kingdom;
Professor Franco Berardi, Accademia di Belle Arti, Carrara, Italy;
Associate Professor Geoff Cox, Dept. of Information and Media Studies,
Aarhus University (chairman).

After the PhD degree there will be a reception in room 229, Nygaard
Building, Finlandsgade 21, 8200 Aarhus N.

Related programme:

Tuesday December 6: Sensibility and Semiocapital Lecture by Franco
Berardi Bifo

(Respondent: Olga Goriunova).
Peter Bøgh Andersen Auditoriet, Nygaard, Aarhus University (12:00-14.00).

[spectre] Remediating the Social: 3rd and FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS

2011-12-01 Diskussionsfäden Simon Biggs
Remediating the Social

3rd and FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS

The Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice
(ELMCIP) research project invites paper and presentation proposals for its
conference, Remediating the Social. Selected papers will be presented at the
conference in Edinburgh, November 1-3, 2012.

ELMCIP welcomes abstracts of up to 500 words for papers, presentations and
group panel sessions that address network and digitally mediated creative
practices that effect and reflect upon the role of creativity in social and
community formation. Remediating the Social apprehends people and media as
interacting generative agents, remediating one another as a vital part of
contemporary social space. Papers that reflect upon born digital literary and
artistic practice within the context of cultural formation are especially
welcome. Papers might present theoretical positions, case studies or artist's
presentations, as well as other forms. We welcome proposals for panel
discussions on specific topics that engage the conference theme.

Remediating the Social will be hosted at Edinburgh College of Art (eca) of the
University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with New Media Scotland and
University College Falmouth. The conference will be held at eca. An associated
exhibition will be held at Inspace, a purpose-built research and exhibition
facility in the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics, fully
instrumented to facilitate engagement with developments in new technologies,
scientific research and creative practice. The exhibition will continue after
the conference for three weeks.

The conference programme will consist of paper presentations, across a range of
disciplines and modes of inquiry, addressing examples of creative communities
that have formed around various practices, media and discourses. Case studies,
papers and panels, including examples arising from the ELMCIP project and other
contexts, will be presented. The conference will be web-cast, allowing for
remote attendees to monitor events and put questions to conference via a live
public feed, employing mediating technologies within the event. Conference
proceedings will be peer reviewed and published, with ISBN.

About ELMCIP
Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice
(ELMCIP) is a three year collaborative research project running from 2010-2013,
funded by the Humanities in the European Research Area Joint Research Programme
for Creativity and Innovation. ELMCIP involves seven European academic research
partners and one non-academic partner who are investigating how creative
communities of practitioners form within transnational and transcultural
contexts in globalized and distributed communications environments. Focusing on
the electronic literature community in Europe, as a model of networked
creativity and innovation in practice, ELMCIP studies the formation and
interactions of that community and seeks to further electronic literature
research and practice in Europe. The project partners are The University of
Bergen, Edinburgh College of Art, Blekinge Institute of Technology, The
University of Amsterdam, The University of Ljubljana, The University of
Jyväskylä,, University College Falmouth and New Media Scotland.

Abstracts of papers should be of no more than 500 words and/or two pages of A4
in PDF format (11 point). A biographical statement of no more than 250 words
