Summary: Text lables on Tabs

Initial Comment:
Both Synfig and gimp[1] use icons only on tabs rather (whereas programs like
photoshop or flash do have text lables).

While icons are great if they can quickly and easily be recognised they can be
bad if they are difficult to recongise or confusingly similar to other icons
(e.g. in general it would be very difficult to tell apart icons for similar
tasks such as Save, Save As, Save All, Export, or Revert).

Also some of the icons in Synfig are actually words of text, "Meta", "Child",
and "T" (for Timeline, which at first glance I thought stood for Text, a clock
icon might have worked better). When it becomes possible to translate Synfig
into other languages these bits of untranslatable text will become increasingly
incongruous.

Granted the tabs all have tooltips describing their function but tooltips are
not immediately obvious and may be overlooked.

[1] gimp includes an option to show icons and text lables (or only text lables)
on tabs but it is not the default setting nor is it easily discoverable and it
must be changed for each tab individually.

Summary: SVG Compatibility

Initial Comment:
It would be great if Synfig could import and export SVG files... It is used by
many other vector softwares.
SVG became a standard and will become necessary for Synfig.
It could also be a good thing to expand the Synfig community. New users could
import their existing drawings, try the animation tools of synfig, and love it!

redesigning parts of the Synfig file format to use other namespaces and
reuse existing standards such as XMP might make it that little bit easier
to convert to other formats.
the very verbose synfig XML looks like it might be good when used with
simple line based diff algorithm and versioning control system but it is
still possible to include lots of line breaks and clear indentation even if
a less verbose markup were to be borrowed from an existing format such as
SVG.
