microsoft pulls November update from media creation tool

2015-11-21 Thread Scott VanDeWalle via Talk

Hello all.
Just to let you all know, that microsoft has apparently pulled the
november update for windows 10 from the media creation tool.
It will be rolling out over windows update over time they said, just
like happened in July.

You can still get the first build which is
10240 with the media creation tool though I believe.
Nobody knows why it was pulled from the tool.
When i know more I will let you all know, unless you all want to come
over to the windows ten list.

OT Very Strange Thing Happened

2015-11-21 Thread Robert Ringwald via Talk
I am visiting my daughter and family in NY. Everyone is asleep at 1:00 AM. I
woke up, got up and came into the dining room and turned on my computer which
was plugged in there charging the battery.

This loud burglar alarm type noise started. It was very loud. Sounded like a
car alarm in that it kept changing alarm sounds. Beeping, then steady tone
then other tones then back to beeping. It was so loud that I did not connect it
with my computer.

I thought that my daughter had an alarm system with a motion detector that they
neglected to tell me about.

Finally my son in law got up, staggered into the room half asleep and turned
off my computer. He read something on the screen but I was so shocked that I
don’t remember what it was.
I can’t imagine my computer making such a racket.

Has anyone else ever encountered such a thing? I’ve had computers since about
1988 and never had this happen.

I have a Del lap top with Win 10, WE 9.2.

Thunderbird & Spam Folders

2015-11-21 Thread Nick Sarames via Talk
A few months ago, a sighted friend set me up with Thunderbird. However,
I don't seem to have access to my spam folder. I seem to have two trash
folders, one of which has my deleted messages. The other folder seems
to be empty. BTW, I'm using pop. How can I access my spam folder to
ensure I'm not missing messages? Feel free to e-mail me off list, thanks.

having extreme difficulty with pdfs

2015-11-21 Thread Jed Barton via Talk

Hey guys,
Alright, well perhaps i am missing something, and i thought this was
going to be really easy, but something is seriously wrong.
I have a manual here, that i really need to navigate. I am looking at
the table of contents, and it's telling me page numbers, so i decided to
go to 1 of them. I did control shift n, and it askedme what page number
to go to, and i type it in, exactly how it was printed in the table of
contents, a-3. Well, then i pressed OK, and it didn't go there, the
table of contents was still there on the screen as i move up and down.
Any ideas? There has to be an easier way to get around some of these
pdfs. Any ideas?

Google Chrome--So Secure, So Fast, So Easy to Use! Bull!

2015-11-21 Thread Tom Fairhurst via Talk
I was trying to troubleshoot problems I am having with my church’s web site,
and they suggested I try Google Chrome. I did. In probing around, I found that
there are many checkboxes inChrome settings that Window-Eyes does not identify.
They are only checked or unchecked. Next I noticed that Chrome loaded at
start-up and Google Chrome was the default browser. No problem, so far.
However, Audible Manager told me that I need to close Chromium tab for it to
update. I then should press okay. I followed these instructions, but Audible
Manager never seemed to update. After a few days, I started getting a virus
alert from Esset Smart Security. It was one of their many alerts that one
cannot act upon before they leave the screen.
Thanks Esset. Then, I noticed that my home page was highjacked. Yes, the title
appeared to be the same. However, the number of links was different, and the
only edit box I could find was one asking me to enter my home phone number. My
next step was to try to remove Google Chrome Packages with Programs and
Features in Windows 7 Control Panel. I was graciously informed that I needed to
contact my administrator as I didn’t have sufficient authority to remove this.
Since I am the administrator, this doesn’t make sense except that Windows has
its own scheme of permissions and ownership that would confound a Yale
University think tank. Yes, I understand it is generally for the good of the
computer user, but its still baffling to figure out and sometimes hard to use
without sighted assistance. Suddenly, with a breath of fresh air, I decided to
use System Restore. I know you need to be careful or you may actually restore a
virus. However, it worked for me. I got rid of the recalcitrant Google Chrome
Packages. I got my home page back without the pernicious edit box asking me for
my home phone number. Now, please tell me why Google Chrome is so good! Sorry
for the long rant, but it hasn’t been a good week on the computer.

Ivan,
There are several ways to access the power options in Windows 10 for
shutting down and restarting.
1. Open the Start menu, Up arrow to Power button and press Spacebar to
activate and open context menu, use Up and Down to select the desired option
and press Enter to execute command.
2. Go to the Desktop with Win-D, press Alt-F4, use Up and Down to select the
desired option and press Enter to execute command.
3. Press Win-X, up arrow to shut down or sign out, expand the pull down with
either Enter or Right arrow, use Up and Down to select the desired option
and press Enter to execute command.

miranda wierdness

2015-11-21 Thread Jed Barton via Talk

Hey guys,
OK, so, i need a little help understanding what is going on. When i
load miranda, facebook is launching and that's a good thing. I keep
hearing this sound affect when the program loads, it's making a pop pop
pop pop pop pop sound affect. i had it happen today, it was saying like
ID, and there were a bunch of numbers. Then after it made the pop sound
affect 18 times, cause i counnted, it made a doorbell type sound
probably 4 or 5 times. What exactly could this be doing, something with
the contact list. While all this is going on, there is a window that is
up that says rich edit, and it appears to be opening windows with that
pop sound, so therefor i have to hit escape atleast 20 times to get rid
of it. Any thoughts guys on what this could be loading that i'm missing?
