[OSM-talk] Link to the map legend

2009-01-01 Thread Detlef Reichl
Hi,

on the talk-de list we are talking about the OSM main page and in
particular about the link to the map legend. It is named Map key, a
for most German users uncommon word. The English word legend would
much better correspond to the German Legende, what would help at least
users in Germany.

Before I request to change this link, I like to here from native English
speakers what's the most common word for a map legend in English.

Cheers, detlef

Btw. are there any attempts to i18n the main OSM page?

Key. Definitely.

:-(

Actually, plain 'Key' rather than 'map key' in my experience. But I would
understand legend.

There is an i18n branch that is waiting for review. The current plan
is to get api06 complete and then rebasing the i18n branch on api06,
rather than an old api05/head.

In the US, we use legend more frequently than key.

The word key is used in the phrase answer key - as in the answers
to a test.

Re: [OSM-talk] Link to the map legend

2009-01-01 Thread Gregory

We should all know what 'map legend' means, however I have the feeling 'map
key' is becoming me common and causing people to be less familiar with what
a legend is.

If it is helpful to some viewers of OpenStreetMap then I would go with
legend, it shouldn't hurt that much.
I had forgotten the link was there. The links next to it make you think it
would take you to another page than open something up in front of the map.
Though I don't have a suggestion for where the legend link could go.

i18n what?
