Don't walk out into traffic without looking! Please also don't simply lead
your partner out onto the dancefloor without waiting for a space or
catching the eye of the next leader at letting him know your intention of
joining the flow. Try to do as much as you can to aviod obstructing the
line of dance. You should not have a big space in front of you if there's
very little space between you and the couple behind you. Try to not have
more space behind you than in front of you, If everybody does the same
thing then everyone will have the same amount of space, good dancers, bad
dancers, famous dancers, beginners, whatever.

If you have a hard time not bumping into people on a crowded floor we have
another huge room, with the same music and the same awesome floor and
without me glaring at you checking to see if you're bumping into people or
not and less people and less bumping.

Unfortunately New York has gotten a reputation for not being the worlds
friendliest tango community, please be nice to each other, no-one has to
dance with anyone else if they don't want to, but there's no reason not say
hi and be polite and friendly with each other. If no-one wants to dance
with you, you might want to make sure your clothes are clean and that your
breath doesn't smell or possibly because your prospective partners feel
that your embrace is uncomfortable that you bump into people too much, or
that your only interested in doing steps rather than actually dancing with
someone.

Just because you've taken private classes with such and such famous teacher
does not make you a great dancer. If people want to dance with you they
will, you can't make them.

Listen to the music, don't bump into people, don't smell, go to practicas
and ask people what's comfortable for them and ask them what they are
looking for in a dance, and at a milonga try to make each dance special.

attendance to 320. We've had 300 before and it was no problem at all.
It's important to me that people have a great experience, I'm not

midnight, probably lots of people will leave after that, so if there's
another 100 people waiting outside then they can come in and replace
them.

Also, I'm not going to charge extra, it'll be $12 admission just like
always. I'm really honored to have this really special event and want

Guillermo Cerneaz
Guillermo was born in the heart of Buenos Aires and has been dancing
tango since he was 19. He has been teaching tango for over 13 years in
different studios such as Tango Brujo, Escuela de Carlos Copello, Mora
Godoy studio, Tangocool and Soho Tango in Buenos Aires. He has also
been travelling and teaching in Europe and Canada.

As a teacher he focuses on the social aspect of tango incorporating
the elegant and traditional style. He created a method of teaching
using different exercises which allows the student to learn faster and
dance more dynamic way. His class is progressive and builds new
elements on top of what you already know so you can be creative and be
free.

As a dancer he is known for his musicality, speed and precision. He
has partnered Guillermina Quiroga, Paula Rampini and Paula Rubin.

We will develop one overturned 'line-of-dance socially compatible'
gancho from the basic cross and understand how to best enable the
movement for both the leader and the follower. From there we will use
this knowledge to create an overturned sacada option. The technique
and choice (based on musical expression) to lead/follow one or the
other will be deeply investigated...

>From our foundation work in Class 1 we will continue with overturned
gancho/sacada varations...the possibilities are numerous! Technique,
musicality, and focus on floor craft will continue to be emphasized.

SUN 2.30pm: Building One Social Dance Step-Over Colgada (Intermediate
"Foundation" Class)
This foundation class will develop the necessary skills to really
lead/follow colgadas (and not just fake it!). We will use a socially
proven example (our favorite step-over colgada) to introduce all the
concepts necessary for advanced work (posture, line-of-power,
communication, resolution, floorcraft, musical expression, etc).

SUN 4.30pm: Exploring Stylistic and Functional Use of Colgadas
(Advanced "Exploration" Class)
With a solid knowledge base established (from Class 3 material) we
will further explore the wide range of functional vs stylistic
(artistic/musical/creative) expressions of colgadas in-use in our
contemporary social dance tango world.

Brian and Yuliana, winners of the open salon competition this year in
NYC, also made their mark in Buenos Aires as Finalists in Tango
Mundial 2010, Salon category. As one of the leading couples in the
west coast, they travel around the U.S. and Canada to share their
knowledge of the roots of tango. Their masters include Javier
Rodriguez, Geraldine Rojas, Carlos Perez and Jorge Dispari to name a
few. Today, Brian and Yuliana continue to inspire with the quality of
their movement and devotion for the traditional style of Argentine
Tango. They are based in Los Angeles, and teach at Oxygen Tango school
on a regular basis.

This Saturday at Nocturne we will have my friends from Portland Oregon
Eric Lindgren and Rebecca Rorick Smith teaching the Intermediate class

Hector "Tito" Castro was born in the town of 9 de Julio in the province of 
Buenos Aires. At age three, his family moved to the neighborhood Villa 
Pueyrredon in the capital. He began his bandoneon classes and general music 
education at age 14 with Eladio titoBlanco, who was the first bandoneon in the 
D’Arienzo orchestra. A few years later, Tito began his professional career 
playing with neighborhood orchestras like Horacio Vacarezza’s and Marcos 
Bagnolo’s. At age 18 he started playing in the Osmar Maderna Orquesta, Simbolo, 
where he stayed for three years. He continued with the Lucio Demare’s and 
Fulvio Salamanca’s orchestras and substituted bandoneon players ir Hector 
Varela and Juan Sanchez Gorio. He has accompanied in two occasions the 
Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa at Carnegie Hall and tenor Placido Domingo 
at the Washington Opera and the Metropolitan Opera House in NY. Tito toured 
Japan and Hawaii in 2004 and 2005 with Japanese tango
 singer Anna Saeki, with whom he has also performed at Carnegie Hall and at the 
famous jazz club Blue Note in NYC. Recently he participated in the recording of 
her new CD, which was presented to the audiences in Japan and Korea tour in 
December of 2005.



Francisco "Pancho" Navarro's masterful playing is illuminated by an 
encyclopedic knowledge of popular, folkloric, and classical music of Latin 
America.
Francisco is from Mendoza Argentina, and lived in Chile and Mexico before 
coming to New York. In Mexico he worked with many major Mariachi groups, and 
won first guitarist at Mexico's Festival Ranchero de la Cancion for three 
consecutive years.His playing can be heard on the soundtracks of "Mambo Kings" 
, "Flawless", and "Frida" as well as numerous recordings, including "Bamboleo" 
with Celia Cruz, & Willie Colon, "Guasasa" with Johnny Pacheco, and "WEA Carobe 
Tito Nieves En Otra Onda"..


Robin Thomas
A well-known and respected dancer and DJ, Robin's enthusiasm for Argentine 
tango can be seen most clearly in his wholehearted dedication to teaching. He 
believes that it is very important for students to dance simply and musically 
from the very beginning. Building that strong base of connection and musicality 
early, Robin believes, will allow even very new beginners to feel comfortable 
and confident on a crowded dance floor and will also lead to a more 
comprehensive and fluid understanding of more complicated techniques later on. 
Robin's teaching style reflects this philosophy, and his students appreciate 
the humorous but still down-to-earth way he presents the material.

Robin's travel schedule is a busy one, reflecting his growing popularity as a 
teacher and tango DJ. Recently, he has taught in Portland, Denver, Ann Arbor, 
Washington DC, Seattle, Berlin, Edinburgh, San Diego, Providence, Pittsburgh 
and at the universities, Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. 

On the rare occasion that he is neither teaching or DJing, Robin can always be 
seen on the dance floor, either working to expand his own understanding of 
Argentine tango, or simply enjoying the connection he works so hard to share 
with others. 

He also hosts a popular milonga, Nocturne, once a month.
