PMX cannot handle slurs to rests, partly because they don't make much
musical sense. But if you really want to do this, it turns out PMX lets you
start and end a slur on the same note. The horizontal shifts are limited,
though, to +/- 6.3 notehead widths. See the corrected file below.

You didn't enter "Ab" at the beginning. Explanation: the original default
behavior for PMX was to use big accidentals unless a big one would not fit
in the available space, then it switched to a small one, and then would only
add space if the small one would not fit. At some point I decided I didn't
really like the jumble of sizes, so I programmed up "Ab" to force big
accidentals always. But the old default had been in place for a long time,
so I didn't really want to change the default.

I also notice you aren't using postscript slurs ("Ap"). I realize there are
some features in that package that some people object to. I've been in touch
with Stanislav, he's already sent me an upgrade that addresses all of those
issues, and I've been building some more functionality into PMX to use the
new slurs. In particular, ties and slurs will now be different whenever
"Ap" is in effect. I'm waiting for Stanislav to give me the go-ahead to post
the new slur files; the upgraded PMX may take a little longer.

Thanks Don! It's very nice. But the combination note-slur-pause *does*
make musical sense, especially in instruments like the harp or
percussion: it means that the player must not stop the vibration of the
strings (harp) or the body of the instrument (tubes). Berg uses it in
the horns too, to indicate that the end of the sound must not be abrupt.

I tried it, but pmx does not accept it.

Hello Don, Alexandros, and all,

This is a bit out-of-date topic: combination of note-slur-pause.

Following does not work well on PMX(2.30-)2.402 with and without `Ap'.
Slurs are parsed, horizontal positioning is *OK*, but the vertical
position of end is always {b}.

1 1 4 4 4 4 0 0 0 4 20 0

0
./
Ap
c25d s r4 s /

c24d s r4 s /

In these cases, slurs should be level at default.
Don, Would you please fix this?

Also, a combination of note-slur-pause is sometimes seen in songs
and tunes for pianoforte.
This says to a singer that the note must be sustained `espressivo'
during the note length.
This is quite different expression from a tenuto but it's hard
to explain in letters.
Anyway a combination of note-slur-pause makes important musical sense.

By the way, not only my package but perhaps also Stanislav's package
has no limit with slur slope.
How about abolishing the slur slope limitter shown below?

I'm glad you reminded me, because I had forgotten about it, and you did
justify
the request.

To be precise, the limit is on the vertical height adjustment. The slope
will depend on how long the slur is. But now that I've fixed the slurs
ending on rests. is there any real need for this? If not I'd rather not
change it: I reserved 5 bits for the height adjustment because I thought
+/-15 would cover any
real situation.
