The simple Contacts DB uses Newtiddler Widget from Stephan Hradek. That got
incompatible with later versions of Tiddlywiki.
It is more than 7 years old now.

2021-10-01 Thread strikke...@gmail.com
The database from http://tw5magick.tiddlyspot.com/ is very old and make
use of a button, that would not work now.
Have a look at a solution also older and also from Stephan Hradek here

I think it would be far easier for you to change for your purpose.

I remember at that time we had some problems copying the code - linebreaks
and more. I do not want to offend anyone, but to avoid problems for you I
will upload the tiddler:

Fill out the form and see what happens, when the buttons show. Keep an eye
on what happens in sidebar in tab recent also. It is very easy when you get
used to it.

Thank you – any details here would be helpful. What versions of those plugins
are you using? Which macros are affected?

Excellent – do you mean that the tiddler content previously overflowed its
background? Perhaps you could share a screenshot?

Best wishes

My main project is impacted. Some of my macros dealing with json tiddlers

On the positive side, it seems that my tiddlers that were too large are now
automatically corrected to fit in the current width of the main story.

Apologies, your posts appear to have been held up in Google's spam protection
system. I've now approved them all and so you may want to delete the earlier
ones.

For some reason, for the last several months Google has been flagging many more

Having just upgraded five TiddlyWiki instances in a row, the only thing I'd
love to see improved: could the name of the file dragged into the upgrade
wizard show somewhere? For each TiddlyWiki I upgraded, I kept forgetting
which one I was dealing with (as I was saving upgraded TiddlyWiki files.)

That aside, the process is A-1 and a quick look reveals zero hiccups. (I
may have more time tomorrow to dig into the weeds, if release only happens
Sunday. Sunday afternoon, to me, sounds like a great time for TiddlyWiki
church ... )

I doubt any of my TiddlyWikis are of any size or architectural/design
significance, but just in you do want some variety, here are some pre-5.2
versions:

   -
   - Charlie's Favourite Stuff and Projects

   "multi-context/purpose" TiddlyWiki)
   - TiddlyWiki Programming Fundamentals

   - CJ Veniot (my online
   resume)
   -

Silly question: is anybody tracking what 3rd party plugins need upgrading
to work with TW5.2?

A compatibility matrix of some kind to let people know they should maybe
upgrade certain plugins first?

A big job for anybody to go test every plugin out there, but I'm thinking
not so bad if one person (or many) updated a compatibility matrix based on
user reports.

[tw5] To structure or not to structure? Depends, eh?

2021-10-01 Thread Charlie Veniot
In my latest "brain-age" game (Coding Fun: My take on recipe ingredients
), I've gone all-in
with structured data.

*(Aside: I tend to prefer using data tiddlers over fields, but that's the
kind of conversation that deserves its own thread.)*

Although structured data is very cool, I usually much prefer the
loosey-goosey unstructured data.

Like just about all things, which is better (structured or unstructured)

   - it depends

Structured data involves big effort up front, but with substantial benefits
later.

   - However, structure done wrong (big analysis up front did not consider
some things until elucidation happened while knee-deep in the thick of it)
can involve big effort re-jigging things if "quickly adjustable re-design"
wasn't built it. (Maintaining documentation, even if just bread-crumbs,
makes a re-jigging effort so much easier, but even maintaining bread-crumbs
   can be some effort.)
   - Building structure for possible future needs that never happen, that
makes big effort up-front not so pretty re the cost-benefit ratio

Unstructured data involves little effort up-front (immediate benefit), but
could require big effort later: i.e. having to move all of that
unstructured data into fields when structure is needed.

Way too many thoughts about it all to write here. I'd need a dedicated
TiddlyWiki.

All of that to say that my "brain-age" game of structured recipe
ingredients may turn into an expanded game that pits structured recipe
ingredients head-to-head with unstructured ingredients.

Proof in the pudding, advantages and disadvantages to both, maybe some
trickery.

Maybe via a shared TiddlyWiki running on nodejs, on a virtual machine, if
anybody is interested. I do have, I think, enough credit in my Google
Compute Engine to setup a virtual machine for some collaborative
"brain-age" structured vs unstructured recipe tomfoolery for a couple of
months...

[tw5] Re: Final Call for Testing for TiddlyWiki v5.2.0

2021-10-01 Thread PMario
Hi Folks,

Since it is a BIG release I think it is important to say, that *if you rely
on 3rd party plugins, please test carefully, if all your plugins still work*
before switching to the new release. May be some plugins need to be
updated. ...

have fun!
Mario

[tw5] Final Call for Testing for TiddlyWiki v5.2.0

2021-10-01 Thread Jeremy Ruston
The upcoming TiddlyWiki v5.2.0 is now – finally – ready for release. I’m hoping
to get it out over the weekend so this is a final request for help with last
minute checks.

It’s a huge release, with many very significant changes from a diverse range of
contributors. Please join me in thanking them all for working so hard to make
this release such an exciting one.

It would be useful to have feedback on the release note, and whether the
descriptions of the changes make sense. Some of the changes are necessarily
technical things that won’t concern all users, but the aim is for the writing
to be clear enough that anyone can get the general drift.

https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/#Release%205.2.0

It would also be a great help if you could try an experimental upgrade of your
own wikis, and give them a once over to make sure everything still works as
expected.

It is recommended to not actually switch over to the new version at this point;
just give it a try with your own data, but don’t upgrade fully until the
official release.

The upgrader is at:

https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/upgrade.html

Any feedback or questions are welcome,

Best wishes

Jeremy.
