RE: DO NOT REPLY [Bug 33339] - Shutdown script down not work

2005-02-01 Thread Al Sutton
So let me get this right, just because you can't reproduce it on your system
you're not willing to leave it open for others to check, despite the fact
you haven't, as yet, told me if your using the same JDK, Linux environment,
and you've not waiting for others to comment.

Guess the easiest way to get round this is to move to Jetty.

Al.

Re: [patch] jk 1.2.8 Build failure on linux (1 liner)

2005-02-01 Thread William A. Rowe, Jr.
Actually, I've noticed another build problem. The declaration
of 'test' on HP/UX is actually a posix sh wrapper to the built
in sh - which invokes test [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Sadly this means that empty arguments to test are dropped,
such that test -z "" results in an 'insufficient arguments'
error to the test utility.

This causes us to fall into the Apache2 defines path within
the apxs test logic which makes building the 1.3 mod_jk quite
difficult on a stock HP/UX box.

I'm bringing this up instead of simply offering a patch, because
I want to determine; should we use Apache 1.3's apxs to link,
or continue to abuse libtool for Apache 1.3 modules?

I can offer up either patch later this week.

Bill

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 33343] New: - mod_jk (v1.2.6 or newer) fails redirecting DirectoryIndex maped to tomcat

http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=33343

Summary: mod_jk (v1.2.6 or newer) fails redirecting
DirectoryIndex maped to tomcat
   Product: Tomcat 5
   Version: Unknown
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: Native:JK
AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This bug is described in:

http://www.webservertalk.com/message878953.html

Using mod_jk v1.2.6, Apache 2, and tomcat 5:

I defined the default virtual host to map all request to tomcat:

  DocumentRoot "/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/"

allow from all

  DirectoryIndex index.jsp

  JkMount *.jsp ajp13
  Alias /myapp /tomcat/webapps/myapp

(note: sintax may be incorrect, I have no access to server now)

All paths and permisions are ok.

Directory redirect work for the ROOT dir, http://localhost/ works.
But http://localhost/myapp/ does not load index.jsp, I have to specify it
manually: http://localhost/myapp/index.jsp

If I delete the JkMount *.jsp entry, apache serves the index.jsp.
I have to create a plain index.html with a META redirect and add index.html to
DirectoryIndex.

Yoav, you may be right the build.xml you check out of CVS
(http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/jakarta-tomcat-5/build.xml?rev=1.222&view=markup)
does have a target "clean".

If you download the latest sources from the zip as per the above URL, there is
no target "clean" in jakarta-tomcat-5.5.7-src/build.xml

this is the build file that starts with

...

P.S.: agreed also the following lines of the build.xml appear to be outdated

This was done without any webapps installed.

As said in the original report, the distribution was extracted, the compat
libraries were extracted, tomcat was started, an attempt to shutdown was made
and failed.

Use the Manager tasks (graphically or via Ant), or if you do manual deployment
delete the WAR and expanded directory. You've already observed that the
latter work. And yes, this is different and more involved than in Tomcat 4.

This is always because your code or libraries used by it start and don't
terminate non-daemon threads. I.e., this is not a Tomcat issue. Use the
mailing list for discussion/clarification.

LocalStrings.properties ExpandWar.java
  Log:
  - Use NIO for the raw copying operation, as it is faster (a little under
30%), which decreases a little the impact of antResourceLocking.

by mistake, I attempted a build with jdk1.5

And then it would no longer compile.
Removing the build directory from each of the sub-directories wasn't enough.
I also had to remove manually:

  rm /usr/share/java/servlet-api-2.4/lib/servlet-api.jar
and
  rm /usr/share/java/jsp-api-2.0/lib/jsp-api.jar
