Re: Topband: Amp Supply LK-500ZC
I have the LK-500ZA. I have used it on 160 in CQWW SSB at VE2DXY/ Zone 2. There were no issues other than tripping the circuit breaker in our hotel room! We had the amp wired for 120 V. You should have no problem on a stiff 120 V line, or better yet, wire it for 240 V. Good luck. Look for VE2DXY in CQWW SSB. Re: Topband: Amp Supply LK-500ZC
Ive had a ZC since 1986 and its been used pretty hard in contests and DXing but I keep it around 1200W. The original Eimacs are still putting out full power. The only problem spot is on the front wafer where the 160M padder tap is right next to the ceramic insulator for the switch hardware. It can arc thru the nylon washer and Ive seen some that have actually burnt away the wafer! The cure is a Teflon washer and seal the area with corona dope or maybe even Q Dope, both of which are still available. If you have some Teflon tubing of sufficient size slide it over the wire to the fixed caps and over the switch lug. Other than that it is a remarkably well built and reliable amp. Its also about time to replace the electrolytics as they are about 25+ years old. Ameritron has a good price on their 270uF. If you want less fan noise and good airflow use an EBM Papst 4600X. Gopher Electronics has the best price last time I looked a month ago as I use that fan in Dentrons and other noisy amps. http://www.gopherelectronics.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3456&idcategory=0 Carl KM1H - Original Message - From: "Edwin Karl" To: Sent: Friday, October 18, 2013 4:53 PM Subject: Re: Topband: Amp Supply LK-500ZC I have both a 500ZB and 500ZC, both work fine on 160, no issues... Re: Topband: Amp Supply LK-500ZC
I have been using a Amp Supply LK500za on 160 for several years now, with no issues. I did upgrade the PS board with the Harbach board. There are some cooling mods I would recommend doing. Before I did the cooling mod, I melted the solder out of one of the pins on the 3-500z. You may need to add some capacitance to the tune cap to make it tune better in the lower part of 160. THE ZC should have the vacuum relay in it. Other than that it solid performing amp with relatively "cheap" tubes. Re: Topband: Amp Supply LK-500ZC
Joe, I have an LK-500ZC and used it for years in all the big 160 tests with no issues. The original transformer blew up soon after I got it (used), and was replaced with a Peter Dahl transformer. I also had a new plate choke and new QSK board installed at that time. I have hundreds of hours on the amp on 160, including the endless CQ'ing in the tests, and it's been bulletproof. 73, Ron KK9K On 10/18/2013 2:34 PM, Joe wrote: I'm looking at a Amp Supply LK-500ZC amplifier.
