[Touch-packages] [Bug 1348883] [NEW] Password field on login does not respond to keyboard
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: After closing my laptop and reopening it again, Ubuntu asks for my password. The input field is selected, but when I type nothing happens. Clicking around and back on the input also has no effect. I could solve it so far in 2 ways; restart, and select 'switch user'. On the second approach I found that the text I had entered now appeared in the text editor that was open, when I closed the laptop. Further info: this was an online text editor ( Just checked, also occurs when closing with this specific inout field (in which I'm currently entering this text) selected). Problem doesn't occur in Sublime Text, haven't checked other text editors. Reason I select this as a safety threat; I am inputting my Password unknowingly on an online form... ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348883 Title: Password field on login does not respond to keyboard Status in “initramfs-tools” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After closing my laptop and reopening it again, Ubuntu asks for my password. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1313904] Re: [W230SS, VIA VT1802, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound after fresh boot
Hi Kiril, I am also interested in this bug because I had the same problem also on Windows (and I'm thinking of installing Ubuntu as well). The same problem (no sound from headphones after waking up from sleep mode) is present in Windows 8/8.1 and the solution is simply to install the Hotkey control center from Clevo (it's in the drivers page, latest version is 6.0100 or 8.0100 respectively for Win7 and Win8). After doing some research I identified the root of a possible solution in the file initHeadphones.exe (which, unfortunately, is not present in the latest version). You can find my story here: http://superuser.com/questions/784110/audio-from-headphones-is-muted- after-screen-is-locked-or-sleep-mode-windows-8-1 Hope you can make something out of it (I can't test at the moment since I can't tinker too much with the laptop). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313904 Title: [W230SS, VIA VT1802, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound after fresh boot Status in ALSA driver: Unknown Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When I boot Windows and then reboot into Ubuntu the sound is ok. [Touch-packages] [Bug 717583] Re: lupdate have a segment fault
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running `apport-collect 717583` and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. Furthermore, Lucid reached EOL on 2013-05-09. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases I've tried recreating this bug with Trusty and was unable to, given the information you've provided. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1177713] Re: Unity: Name of Guest account not internationalized
The lightdm solution I propose makes the temporary guest account's real name translated to begin with, i.e. it's the translation of "Guest" that will be saved in the /etc/passwd entry. This should do it in most cases. However.. If you customize the guest session feature in such a way that a guest session is started with some other language but the system wide language in /etc/default/locale, there will be a mix of languages in the logout dialog. This disadvantage could be avoided if this bug was fixed in Unity instead. OTOH I suppose it's good to not spread guest session related hacks all over. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1177713 Title: Unity: Name of Guest account not internationalized Status in Ubuntu Translations: Triaged Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Steps to reproduce: Login on a guest session Click on logout from guest session Result: There is a dialog, asking whether you're sure to log out. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1304754] Re: gccgo has issues when page size is not 4kB

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1348386] Re: lxc template fails to stop
Hi - Please let us know if that does not suffice, and we need to do the fallback when lxc detects -c is not a device. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1348775] Re: Supporting -D from e2fsck in e4defrag
Unfortunately, what you are requesting isn't possible. E4defrag works in an online mode -- that it is, it works while the file system is mounted. E2fsck -D works off-line; the file system must be unmounted to optimize the directory. So it simply wouldn't be possible to move the functionality from e2fsck to e4defrag without adding a huge amount of kernel support. And in practice, honestly, it's rarely needed. If you know no one is using a dirctory, you can mostly get the behaviour you want by doing this: mkdir foo.new ; mv foo.new/* foo ; rmdir foo ; mv foo.new foo Of course, if something is trying to access the directory foo while you are doing this, it will fail, which is why this isn't something that I would put into e4defrag. Also, it's pretty simple for anyone to do from the command line. ** Changed in: e2fsprogs (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to e2fsprogs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348775 Title: Supporting -D from e2fsck in e4defrag Status in “e2fsprogs” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with e2fsprogs 1.42.10-1.1ubuntu1 and e2fsck provides the option -D to optimize directories but in my opinion this is an option that would be more suitable in e4defrag (except that e2fsck also supports ext2 and ext3). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1348757] Re: invoke-rc.d gets stuck when trying to start gnukhata-core-engine during post install
And what makes you think that the bug is in a piece of software that's had a stable interface for the past decade and longer, and is used by every Debian service up to and including wheezy, rather than a bug in your invocation? > Blocking itp https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=751673 That makes no sense at all. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348668 Title: Unity lockscreen lets applications capture keyboard input Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I noticed that with the Vimium extension activated in Google Chrome, I cannot unlock Unity's lockscreen because keyboard input is hijacked by Vimium. I have noticed this before as well when using another application, though I can't remember which one it was at the moment. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. [Touch-packages] [Bug 236956] Re: sane devices should not be managed by consolekit
i have also a problem with scanner after precise pangolin 12.04 i have informed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1080787/comments/10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1080787/comments/11 is it the same problem? is it possible to correct this? thank you very much -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to consolekit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236956 Title: sane devices should not be managed by consolekit Status in “consolekit” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “sane-backends” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In hardy, USB scanners are managed differently than in previous releases of Ubuntu. Before hardy, there was a udev rules assigning to the "scanner" group all the usb devices that appeared to be scanners under comparison to the /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules. Now, that file is no more, and the access to the usb scanners is controlled by HAL+Consolekit. The result is that only the user who is sitting at the console has permission to use the scanner, since the usb devices now get owned by root, with a special ACL allowing access to the console user. This is a very very wrong thing to do. The beauty of sane is that it can work over the network. But with "hardy" it cannot anymore: there is no possibility to set up a scanner server. Saned is supposed to be run via xinetd as the saned user. But with the current setup, the saned user cannot access the scanner, since only the current console user and root can. It is not possible to tell xinetd that saned should be run as "the current console user". And in fact there might be no current console user at all. Nor it is possible to tell xinetd that saned should be run as root, because this is just too bad from a security point of view. What makes the matter worse is that putting the 45-libsane.rules from gutsy back in place does not help. So, with the current consolekit thing, sane is not sane anymore, and can only be run from the console (a la Twain) and not as a server. Please, rethink about console kit and scanners. Consolekit is a very desktop-centric thing, assuming that most pluggable peripherals should be owned by the person at the console. But this is generally not true of anything that can be shared on the network. Things that can be shared should be independent from the console user. Please go back to treating scanners with a dedicated system user or group owning them. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1347721] Re: Saucy -> Trusty upgrade failed: procps fails to configure
It seems like the issue is the following: There is a dependency loop mountall->udev->procps->initscripts->mountall. When apt tries to deal with it, it configures them all initially together, then it finds the "libplymouth4" dependency of mountall that is not unpacked yet and inserts the unpack at this point wich breaks the condition that all packages in the loop need to be unpacked at the same time. If 'contacts' are going to be made generally available to untrusted appstore apps, the address- book-app service needs to be modified to use trust-store, like location-service does. Integrating with trust-store means that when an app tries to connect to the address-book-app over DBus, address-book- app will contact trust-store, the trust-store will prompt the user ("Foo wants to access your contacts. Is this ok? Yes|No"), optionally cache the result and return the result to address-book-app. In this manner the user is given a contextual prompt at the time of access by the app. Using caching this decision can be remembered the next time. If caching is used, there should be a method to change the decision in settings. Targeting to T-Series for now, since the trust-store is not in a reusable form yet. Currently there are two choices on Ubuntu, fonts-droid and wqy- microhei. Below I will list out the pros and cons. wqy-microhei (DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf, modified): - Pros: - The advantage of wqy-microhei being its wider codepoint coverage, for example it also contains Japanese Kanas and Korean Hanguls in one font. The downside is it may be of lower quality than the original DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf due to its lack of maintenance in recent years. - Cons: - I am not too much in favour of using wqy-microhei, the reason being that it is basically a font that based on the Droid font (DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf to be exact). - Upstream has not updated wqy-microhei for long time, so it lacks any new updates from the Droid font, although it may not be obvious to users. - Another possible disadvantage of wqy-microhei is it includes more latin characters, which may result to inconsistent glyphs being used. fonts-droid (DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf, original): - Pros: - The advantage is it has coverage of CJK ext. A [1], which wqy-microhei does not provide. -Cons: - On the other hand, wqy-microhei has added some glyphs that the droid font does not provide, I don't have the exact number of that but I believe it's just a small number. - The disadvantage is it does not include Korean Hangul, which can be remedied with another Korean font, and it's not our current concern anyway. As an additional alternative, just a few days ago, Google released the Noto Sans CJK fonts [2][3]: fonts-noto (Noto Sans CJK fonts): - Pros: - It takes care of different writing standard of Traditional and Simplified Chinese - It covers Japanese and Korean as well - Cons: - Needs to be tested - Bigger size than the other alternatives as a result of catering for both Traditional and Simplified Chinese - Not yet packaged [4] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_Unified_Ideographs_Extension_A [2] http://googledevelopers.blogspot.de/2014/07/noto-cjk-font-that-is-complete.html [3] https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1xIBCsqwrSxowmLQS7kJm9gM58-FmOIYlZWoRlgqtqE4/edit#slide=id.g36327fada_643 [4] https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=754926 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1346766/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1321958] Re: resize2fs does not start to actually grow an ext4
Someone has reported what appears to be the same problem on the linux- ext4 list, and between correlations of the observations from Dennis (Thermaltaker) and on the linux-ext4 list, I believe we have a fix that should address this problem: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.ext4/44870 If someone wants to try the patch proposed by Azat applied to 1.42.11, that would be much appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to e2fsprogs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1321958 Title: resize2fs does not start to actually grow an ext4 Status in “e2fsprogs” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, all proposed updates done Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic, Package: e2fsprogs 1.42.9-3ubuntu1, System: Haswell i7, 32GB RAM, LSI SAS 9207-8i HBA and LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA I tried to increse the size of an ext4 filesystem. Oh look, it has been fixed! At least for me. The shortcuts overlay is now working in my laptop with 1336x768 resolution, Ubuntu 14.04, both with workspaces enabled and disabled! In Compiz Config Manager, under Ubuntu Unity Plugin -> Launcher, the Key to show the Dash, Launcher and Help Overlay is set to Super. Under Ubuntu Unity Plugin -> General, Enable Shortcut Hints Overlay is checked. This is also known to affect 14.04 (without compiz) when workspaces are enabled and screen resolution is 1024x768. But it remains ok for the unity menu and icon. So, except using alt+F4 to close the window or using the keyboard, i just can't interact with it using the mouse. It is not related to the hardware on the mouse side : i tried two very different ones, and the behaviour is the same. I can't click in the window (draw or anything else) nor act with the window itself (close, expand, shrink or drag.) It seems that sometimes, when i use the cursor in the main menu above related to the window concerned, that then i get access to normal functionnality. But if i launch another app, the buggy behavior reappears for the new and the already opened windows. This exists on precise with updated packet until today 6 augustus. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178431 Title: Unity global menu of several programs disappears randomly Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) and also before on 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) the global menu of a lot of programs randomly disappears from the panel. I always had the latest updates installed. What should happen: Global menu should be visible in any program whenever I hover the cursor over the panel. What happens: Randomly the global menu of several programs (Nautilus, Firefox, Thunderbird, GIMP, gedit etc.) does not show when hovering over the panel. I'm really don't know what triggers the mentioned behaviour for now it seems totally random for which program and when it will occur. Usually I work with some programs maximized and switch between them by Alt+Tab or the Compiz 'Scale' option. For Firefox and Thunderbird it helps to minimize the window and maximze it directly to get the global menu shown again on hover over. For the other programs minimizing/maximizing doesn't help.
