[Touch-packages] [Bug 2017196] Re: package pipewire-alsa (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: conflicting packages - not installing pipewire-alsa:amd64 [pipewire-alsa conflicts with pulseaudio]
I'm not sure what the intended configuration of these two packages is. On one (older) lunar system I find neither installed. On a fresh lunar install however I find pipewire-alsa but no pulseaudio. Neither package is seeded so it seems either of those configurations is valid. They do definitely conflict though so I recommend manually removing 'pulseaudio' and then reattempting the upgrade. ** Also affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2017196 Title: package pipewire-alsa (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: conflicting packages - not installing pipewire-alsa:amd64 [pipewire- alsa conflicts with pulseaudio] Status in pipewire package in Ubuntu: New Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Upgrading from UBUNTU 22.10 to UBUNTU 23.04 as advised. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2017184] [NEW] Terrible Default for HandlePowerKey
Public bug reported: By default, /etc/systemd/logind.conf sets HandlePowerKey to poweroff. This is a terrible default, because this poweroff action does not ask for any confirmation whatsoever, encouraging data loss. The power key does get pressed inadvertently from time to time: - It's usually also the resume-from-suspend key, so if you thought you had suspended the computer but in fact it only locked after inactivity, you could press the power key to resume, only to find that you just nuked your session. - On many laptops, the power button is close to backspace. A single slip of your pinky nukes your session. Each of these mishaps can result in loss of unsaved data, and/or data corruption if some background task is running that doesn't expect to get killed in the middle. This is an especially terrible user experience for novices who have little prior exposure to system setting files, who will likely have a hard time fixing it. This is not a sensible default. Please at least show confirmation for this poweroff action by default, or if that's difficult to do, make the default more benign, like ignore or lock. @Andreas Replying about the accountsservice part, we got some issues resolved there before the release but the bug here is a different problem then the one addressed in accountsservice 22.08.8-1ubuntu7. The issue is in the indicator codebase and the right fix is what has been uploaded for (ayatana-)indicator-messages recently but Marco also worked on making accountsservice more robust to such coding errors. Summarizing this bug from an SRU POV We need https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator- messages/13.10.1+18.10.20180918-0ubuntu5 in lunar. Previous upload of 0ubuntu4 failed to migrate/build (see comment #24), and I guess 0ubuntu5 arrived too late for the release. We also have https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lunar/+upload/31007427/+files/ayatana- indicator-messages_22.9.0-1ubuntu1_source.changes in lunar-unapproved I'm sensing both need to land in lunar-proposed at the same time for this bug to be fixed in lunar? And what about accountsservice 22.08.8-1ubuntu7, which is in lunar already, but its task in this bug is "fix committed"? I saw there was some back and forth with it, and it sounded it would have the fix for this bug, but then didn't. Is it still related to this bug, or can we remove/delete its task? [Touch-packages] [Bug 2016439] Re: Regression finding system certificates
We talked about it and agreed on the following changes: - don't patch the libnssckbi.so library path anymore, as that one is working in the original code - for libnsspem.so, use a debian architecture macro that respects cross compiles and uses the target arch instead of the host one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to curl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2016439 Title: Regression finding system certificates Status in curl package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in curl package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact ] Users of applications that link against libcurl's NSS flavour might experience issues when trying to contact HTTPS servers. This can lead to scenarios where the application is unable to connect. [ Where problems could occur ] The adjustment needed to the downstream patch is pretty simple and has been tested extensively. The original reporter mentioned that the issue did not happen before this patch was applied, so in the unlikely event of a regression the best route would be to revert the patch entirely. [ More Info ] This happens because of an error in one of our patches (authored by me) to teach libcurl where to properly find libnsspem.so and libnssckbi.so. The problem is that libnsspem.so is installed under /usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_ARCH)/nss/, while libnssckbi.so is installed under /usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_ARCH)/, but I mistakenly pointed libcurl to look under the "/nss/" directory for both libraries. As it turns out, libnssckbi.so is necessary in order to use the Mozilla's root certificate. [ Original Description ] [ Clone of https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1034359 ] Between 7.88.1-2 and 7.88.1-5, there was a change to where curl with nss looks for loadable libraries: curl (7.88.1-4) unstable; urgency=medium * d/p/Use-correct-path-when-loading-libnss-pem-ckbi-.so.patch: Prepend "/nss/" before the library name. Before the change to the load path, curl could find /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnssckbi.so but not /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nss/libnsspem.so, after the change it's the reverse. libnssckbi.so is enough to get a trust root (the mozilla certificate store is compiled inside that library), whereas libnsspem.so (1.0.8+1-1) isn't. This makes it impossible to connect to https servers by default for programs that use curl with NSS. Here is a way to test the regression: debbisect -v --cache=./cache \ --depends=libcurl4-nss-dev,git,pkg-config,libssl-dev,ca-certificates,cargo,nss-plugin-pem,p11-kit-modules,strace \ 20230306T145638Z 20230306T203828Z \ 'chroot "$1" bash -exuc " git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/alexcrichton/curl-rust.git cd curl-rust time cargo fetch time cargo build --offline --example https strace -efile target/debug/examples/https >/dev/null "' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/curl/+bug/2016439/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2016908] Re: Unable to deploy hosts with lunar images after 20230319 - fails to connect and download squashfs
We discussed fixes to the maas bootloader builds and as a result, we have a new maas bootloader which should have the latest shim and grub: http://images.maas.io/ephemeral-v3/candidate/bootloaders/uefi/amd64/20230420.0/ I manually copied these to my test maas, it did not resolve the issue (or have any other visible change). Paolo built a kernel to try and debug this from the prctl interface. With this (and udev with -debug), I see these two additional console log entries: [ 18.029479] __do_sys_prctl::2375 [ 18.042840] __do_sys_prctl::2380 There are lots of these, but only the same two lines. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2016908 Title: Unable to deploy hosts with lunar images after 20230319 - fails to connect and download squashfs Status in maas-images: Incomplete Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm assuming the image being used for these deploys is 20230417 or 20230417.1 based on the fact that I saw a 6.2 kernel being used which I don't believe was part of the 20230319 serial. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2016439] Re: Regression finding system certificates
As I understand it, libnsspem.so is the one in the "wrong" place: /usr/lib/$ARCH/nss/libnsspem.so A quick apt-file search on lunar shows that is the only package that puts something in /usr/lib/$ARCH/nss. I appended this config to my ~/.pki/nssdb/pkcs11.txt file to test search paths: library=libnsspem.so name=PEM_plugin And ran this test command with strace: certutil -d ~/.pki/nssdb -U It shows the search path for the library: 143458 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnsspem.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 143458 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnsspem.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 143458 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/lib/libnsspem.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 143458 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/usr/lib/libnsspem.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) So yes, /usr/lib/$ARCH/nss is not searched for. Which means it's an odd placement choice decision from the src:nss-pem package. Or maybe src:nss should include that nss/ subdirectory in its search path. In any case, back to the current bug. It looks like a minimal patch would be to leave libnssckbi.so alone, as that will be found in the standard paths if I define it without an absolute path in pkcs11.txt: library=libnssckbi.so name=Mozilla Root Certs NSS=trustOrder=100 And strace: 143993 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnssckbi.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 7 So how about just patching the libnsspem.so path? And reverting the change to the `static const char *trust_library` path all the way back so it's just "libnssckbi.so"? On a second note, has this been tested in other architectures, to be sure the _DEB_HOST_ARCH replacement is correct there as well? I'm thinking ppc64el vs ppc64le, for example, and whether the linux-gnu suffix is always used correctly. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2017076] Re: default Chinese font in snap apps is ugly
One thought is to ask why we still install the fonts-arphic-uming package when installing Chinese (Simplified as well as Traditional). Probably it is of historical reasons from the time before Noto existed. But let's consider that to be a matter of its own. Even if AR PL UMing is available, Noto Sans CJK should have higher precedence. With a Chinese locale, it's not possible to have fontconfig give Noto Sans CJK higher precedence that it currently has: $ LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8 fc-match NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Regular" But also with non-Chinese locales, Noto Sans CJK ought to be preferred over AR PL UMing: $ LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 fc-match -a | grep -iE 'uming|cjk' | head -38 NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Regular" NotoSansCJK-Medium.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Medium" NotoSansCJK-DemiLight.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "DemiLight" NotoSansCJK-Light.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Light" NotoSansCJK-Thin.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Thin" NotoSansCJK-Bold.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Bold" NotoSansCJK-Black.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK JP" "Black" NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Regular" NotoSansCJK-Medium.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Medium" NotoSansCJK-DemiLight.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "DemiLight" NotoSansCJK-Light.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Light" NotoSansCJK-Thin.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Thin" NotoSansCJK-Bold.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Bold" NotoSansCJK-Black.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK KR" "Black" NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Regular" NotoSansCJK-Medium.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Medium" NotoSansCJK-DemiLight.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "DemiLight" NotoSansCJK-Light.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Light" NotoSansCJK-Thin.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Thin" NotoSansCJK-Bold.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Bold" NotoSansCJK-Black.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Black" NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Regular" NotoSansCJK-Medium.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Medium" NotoSansCJK-DemiLight.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "DemiLight" NotoSansCJK-Light.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Light" NotoSansCJK-Thin.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Thin" NotoSansCJK-Bold.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Bold" NotoSansCJK-Black.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK TC" "Black" NotoSansCJK-Regular.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Regular" NotoSansCJK-Medium.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Medium" NotoSansCJK-DemiLight.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "DemiLight" NotoSansCJK-Light.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Light" NotoSansCJK-Thin.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Thin" NotoSansCJK-Bold.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Bold" NotoSansCJK-Black.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK HK" "Black" uming.ttc: "AR PL UMing CN" "Light" uming.ttc: "AR PL UMing HK" "Light" uming.ttc: "AR PL UMing TW" "Light" But apparently the snap applications don't query fontconfig dynamically about the default font. Instead a default font seems to be established during installation, based on to me unknown criteria, and that default font does not change. We need help from the snap folks to sort this out, I think. Another thought is that many available fontconfig files were moved from /etc/fonts/conf.avail to /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail during the lunar development cycle. Can this possibly have created a dissonance between the snaps and the system in this respect? If I understand it correctly, the snaps honor the symlinks in /etc/fonts/conf.d: $ cat ~/snap/firefox/current/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf /snap/firefox/2517/gnome-platform/usr/share/fonts /usr/local/share//fonts /usr/share//fonts /etc/fonts/conf.d conf.d fontconfig /var/snap/firefox/common/fontconfig But many of those symlinks on the system now point to /usr instead of /etc. One reason why I suspect that this has something to do with it is that /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-fonts-arphic-uming.conf — which prefers AR PL UMing —is one of the files which was *not* moved to /usr. ** Changed in: fontconfig (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: fontconfig (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Also affects: snappy Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to fontconfig in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2017076 Title: default Chinese font in snap apps is ugly Status in Snappy: New Status in fontconfig package in Ubuntu: New Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After installs Ubuntu 23.04 with Chinese language selected, the default font is chosen to AR PL UMing CN, which is very ugly. This is in preparation for setting up an OpenLDAP server, a Kerberos server with an LDAP backend, and saslauthd for pass-through authentication. krb5-kdc was auto-selected when running the steps in the guide here in my development environment: https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/service-kerberos-with-openldap-backend When installing that, I get the following in the output: Setting up krb5-kdc (1.19.2-2) ... I do get the prompts for the realm, kdc, and admin server hostnames, and they are reflected in /etc/krb5.conf. If I then run the following: dpkg-reconfigure krb5-kdc I am prompted for whether I want the package to create the Kerberos KDC configuration automatically, and when I say yes, it then repeats the following error: Could not execute systemctl: at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2017142] [NEW] [jammy] VA-API doesn't work on DCN 3.1.4
Public bug reported: [ Impact ] VA-API decoding doesn't work on DCN 3.1.4. Mesa 22.2.5 includes all the code to support it but is missing the chip ID. The device ID was included in upstream mesa 22.3.1. [ Test Plan ] * Verify that VA-API works using "mpv" or a similar tool that uses VA-API * Verify that '# vainfo' shows the correct information. [ Where problems could occur ] * If just the new ID is backported then they would be unique to DCN 3.1.4 as it's now running VA-API codepaths. * If newer mesa point release is adopted, then it could be a regression that happened in changes on common code in mesa between those two point releases. [ Other Info ] * It can be cherry picked with this single commit: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/commit/4291e545d5a0f18c652f0ea57907f445392e8858 * AMD has already tested cherry-picked commit on top of the Ubuntu mesa 22.2.5 package and verified it works. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: originate-from-2016915 ** Tags added: originate-from-2016915 ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2017142 Title: [jammy] VA-API doesn't work on DCN 3.1.4 Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in mesa source package in Jammy: New Bug description: [ Impact ] VA-API decoding doesn't work on DCN 3.1.4. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools
I think we all understand the direction here, Jeremy. You don't care about non-paying users. I'm not sure what being an Ubuntu Member means any more but what the point if part of that isn't speaking out when there's a problem, and I have to say that removing freedoms from users is about as big a problem as it gets for FOSS, especially when the leverage is commercial gain. What situation or mechanism are we imagining where somebody on an ubuntu-minimal base can't apt install ubuntu-advantage-tools if they want ubuntu-advantage-tools? I've no problem with it being bundled in, an installer question, but as soon as you say "oh you can't get rid of that", you're not compliant to me. You're telling me what I can and can't do with my installation, and for no good reason. I'm writing this now because I've had pushback from client netadmins demanding to know why these installations are individually phoning home on a regular basis. Yes I have sensitive clients, they do sensitive work. So now I have a choice, I either have to hack around your work to botch it and hope that an update doesn't fix it, or we can't use Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1930914 Title: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: This is counter to #1566183 There is no reason to enforce desktop users who manage machine on their own to install ubuntu-advantage- tools, especially when this is 'minimal' version. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2017090] Re: [raspi] glmark2-wayland --fullscreen stutters visually while reporting hundreds of FPS
The problem has gone away and direct scanout is working. Now I get 60 FPS fullscreen. I can only imagine direct scanout wasn't being used for some reason because if I disable that then I can synthesise this bug again.
