Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?

2019-04-19 Thread gnuser

I am glad that this thread helped other people.
I will suggest that for privacy, other than using Tor, you might use the
various Invidious instances that exist. That way you are not in risk of one
single instance logging your info and selling it.

Apart from that, I don't think that Invidious will suffer the same fate as
Hooktube. The reason is that you can actually simply run the software in your
own machine, and they can't stop that. The existing public instances might go
down but not the software itself. Youtube might try to prevent the Invidious
software from accessing their information (videos, comments, views, etc), but
I don't see that as being feasible. Truth is youtube will eventually have to
do something because if Invidious becomes standard... Youtube will suffer
loss of money in ad revenue.

[Trisquel-users] Browser addons

2019-04-19 Thread amuza

Hello.

I would like to have Abrowser or IceCat with a session manager, I mean one of
those extensions that let you save your browsing sessions with all your open
tabs and restore them later.

But installing extensions does not seem to work in Abrowser or IceCat. I
search for an add-on, select it, click on "Install extension" and nothing
happens.

As always, any help or comment is very much appreciated!

On an addon page on https://addons.mozilla.org try right-clicking on the
button "Install extension" to get a contextual menu, copy the link, paste it
it the address bar and visit that address. I believe Abrowser/IceCat spoofs
the user agent to fight against fingerprinting. That is why
https://addons.mozilla.org believes your version of the browser is not high
enough.

[Trisquel-users] Offtopic: Today we aren't celebrating Hardware Freedom Day

2019-04-19 Thread Ignacio Agulló

...and another one bites the dust. The Digital Freedom Foundation
has been organizing since 2013 the yearly celebration called the
Hardware Freedom Day... until now. Same as with the Document Freedom
Day, its site in the world wide web has been down since at least the
beginning of the year. Again, I have had to go the the Calendar of ITC
Celebrations that I maintain and delete the celebration, at least for 2019.
