Very cool. I have always loved the transparent backgrounds, they are hard to
get right, but I think TumbleWeed is very good.

I am not sure that the jackalope should be so prominent... on lighter
backgrounds it stands out quite a lot, and not all people will know the
Ubuntu 9.04 has anything to do with Jackalopes.

Having the jackalope in the bg is a cool idea, but I think it needs to blend
in with the background a lot better. Maybe having the subtle contours of a
jackalope made in the weed? The really tricky part is that people not "in
the know" should not notice it, while people with prior affiliation to
Ubuntu should notice it straight away.

Re: [ubuntu-art] Artwork Deadline One

2009-02-09 Thread John Baer
I uploaded two new images to the wiki for your consideration.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Jaunty/Impression/Background

The first has a darker Jaunty to enhance the rabbit illusion. My desire
is not to have a skeleton look but keep with the sketch appearance.

The second image is an example of how the appearance changes completely
by simply changing the background color.

I like giving folks the opportunity to tweak their desktop to suite
their personal tastes (Impression is the same).

As far as Jaunty is concerned, I am transparent on whether he stays in
the final product.

Cheers,

John

I think they look a little too Tango. Isn't that what we're trying to avoid?
Perhaps more gloss would do the trick.

I think they will work. I'm iffy about the color strength. Maybe we
should use something like the ones I showed in the 1st post? But I like
the finish on them. Good start. :)

I really think the name would look odd translated... I agree with Steve
Dodier, this is good enough :
Name[fr]=Breathe
Comment[language]=Thème d'icônes Breathe

If we were to try to keep it consistant with the slogan (Because Humans need
Oxygen to Breathe), we could use a translation of the name... For example
"Parce que les Humains ont besoin d'oxygène pour respirer", but I think an
infinitive form ("respirer") is strange, an imperative could be better :
"Respire" (like "*Breathe*!", not like "You need *to breathe*")...

Yikes! thats only 10 days away! which means one weekend. Still this is
doable. Your background is impressive. I personally thing that the
jackalope could be removed, and it would not take away from the piece.
The user will look for it, and like most mythical things not find it.

Ken: are you still doing abstract backgrounds for final release? if so
this one minus the rabbit looks gorgeous.

As said when I posted it, it needs some work. It's actually based on the
Oxygen one. Generally I like it, target-like or not. ;) It's obvious I'm
willin' to use something different as I've made 2 specific calls (and
mentioned it in other threads) for a start-here so get to work. :)

Re: [ubuntu-art] ubuntu-art Digest, Vol 44, Issue 10

2009-02-09 Thread Steve Dodier

Hello people,

Here are some proposals for the french name/comment.

> * Name[language]=X
> * Comment[language]=X

a) with the Breathe word
Name[fr]=Breathe
Comment[language]=Thème d'icônes Breathe

b) with a french word, i just can't use the accurate translation. Breathe means
"respirer", but it really doesn't sound nice to my ears to use a verb. And if
we use the noun for the action of breathing, it gives "respiration", which is
pretty ugly. I would prefer using the verb "souffler" which also stands for "to
blow". Which gives :

Name[fr]=Souffle

Comment[language]=Thème d'icônes Souffle

I still definately think it's more beautiful to use Breathe.

Something else, i'm sorry but i've to say i really dislike the icon Cory K.
proposed. It looks like some sort of archer target. I'd actually prefer a logo
based on Ubuntu's one. I can give it a try but i'm a total noob with Inkscape
so i'm more than likely to fail.
