[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric
Because packages from backports are not installed by default, we prefer to only use backports as a way to offer new features, not fix bugs. Bugs in packages should be fixed through the SRU process (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates), so that all users of the package can benefit from the fix. I'm going to go ahead and retarget this as an SRU bug. I'm happy to sponsor the fix; all I need from you is an isolated patch that fixes the crash, and a few sentences for each of the 5 points in step 2 of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure - you can put the writeup in the bug description. ** Also affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released ** Changed in: oneiric-backports Status: New = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Oneiric Backports. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948117 Title: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/948117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric
Broder: This was fixed in an upstream revision of the program, and I am not able to narrow down what upstream changes were made to the program. The only solution I would see at this time, is to upload the package with the latest versioning numbers. That latest version exists in Precise and in Debian Sid, but not in Oneiric. I'd have to diff the entire source, and from what I can tell, there were several other changes to the upstream between the filing of the referenced bug, and the version in Precise. As I understand the system, this is not usually done. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Oneiric Backports. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948117 Title: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/948117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric
Normally we prefer to isolate just the necessary changes to fix the bug. In this case, though, the entirety of the 3.2.1 release contains bugfixes. In these cases, we can upload the new release as an SRU. However, I made a mistake opening an SRU task on this bug, since bug #884619 is already tracking the original problem, so I'm going to close out this bug and we can move the discussion there. ** No longer affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: egenix-mx-base (Ubuntu Oneiric) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Oneiric Backports. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948117 Title: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/948117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release
So, someone on the forum decided to make an LTS 0.9.17 as well. http://hedgewars.org/node/3600 I obviously have no idea whatsoever if it is trustworthy and have not installed it myself, nor do I have any plans to. While the LTS version clearly is non-functional w/ online play, I don't really think people should consider LTS if they are gamers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Oneiric Backports. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852603 Title: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/852603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
Anyone still using prevu?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi all, I seem to be the only person to have done an upload of prevu in the past few years. That has only been to make it aware of new release names. I've never really used it myself. It was never updated in oneiric to know about precise and no one seems to have cared enough to file a bug about it. I was contemplating making it use python-distro-info so new release names don't have to be manually added, but it might just be better to remove it from precise. No one is subscribed to its bug reports in Ubuntu. Is anyone still making use of prevu? Is there any use case that backportpackage from ubuntu-dev-tools doesn't cover? Unless anyone speaks up, I'll ask the archive-admins to remove it from precise. I think perhaps it's been made redudant since if your wanting to run/test software not on your distro you can *usually* get it in a ppa built for your version of ubuntu. This is certainly easier for most folks. For anyone else who is looking to do a real backport, prevu isn't really the tool for them. Very nice tool, I appreciated and used it before it was in the archive even. My 2 cents, Hi Nicholas, Could you take a look at the backportpackage command from the ubuntu-dev-tools package? As a former prevu user, can you see anything that it is missing that prevu provides? If so, maybe we can file some wishlist bugs.
