[Bug 1835623] Re: Chromium's MPRIS implementation freezes and then crashes the browser when trying to play any video with Laine gnome-shell extension
see also https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/1715233 MPRIS: Return list of artists instead of an artist string This CL changes the MPRIS artist metadata to be a list of strings instead of just one string. This makes MPRIS correctly match the spec of the xesam:artist property. This fixes an issue where some users of MPRIS (e.g. the Laine GNOME extension) would crash when reading the xesam:artist value since they assume it's a list instead of just a string. Re: Laine | Laine extension breaks video and audio playback in google chrome and chromium versions 75 and newer! (#52) Inbox x Updates x Tommy Steimel Unsubscribe Tue, Jul 23, 3:10 PM (20 hours ago) to me Tommy Steimel commented: Chrome 75 doesn't correctly follow the spec for the xesam:artist attribute. It's supposed to be a list of strings, but Chrome just returns a string. I have a fix out for that here: crrev.com/c/1715233. Some MPRIS clients gracefully handle that case though, so it may be worth updating Laine to not break when given just a string. In my case, the Laine gnome-shell extension was causing all the problems. when I turned the Laine extension off both google-chrome and chromium versions 75 (newest updates) worked again. Both video and audio playback ran normally again. [Bug 1835623] Re: Google Chrome Linux version 75 freezes and then crashes when trying to play any video
I am sorry about suggesting to delete the extension. One can also turn off the extension until the developer has found a fix. It seems that the use of MPRIS and Pulseaudio may be causing a conflict with Chrome and Chromium version 75 and newer. I suppose many Linux users probably use Firefox as a browser. And I can use the newest version of Firefox to play videos without any trouble. [Bug 1835623] Re: Google Chrome Linux version 75 freezes and then crashes when trying to play any video
What changed about video and audio playback on version 75 of chrome and chromium? As I said before any earlier version worked just fine. In chrome or chromium 75 when I click on any video to play, the moving circle appears and then freezes instantly, as if it is stopped on purpose. It may have to do with the process that stops videos from automatically starting until one clicks on the play arrow. Except in this case clicking on a video is treated as if it were a automatic video start? It is a chromium and chrome 75 issue, and not a Ubuntu 18.04. Filing a bug with https://crbug.com is too complicated. I am not a developer, I just need chrome and chromium to work. Please contact the developers of chrome and chromium 75 and have them work on this, instead of hiding this insidious issue. Why don't you use Ubuntu 18.04 with firewall on install chrome and chromium 75 and see what happens. I am tired of solving other peoples errors. I will just continue to use chrome 71 till google and chromium decide to fix this very well known issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835623 Title: Google Chrome Linux version 75 freezes and then crashes when trying to play any video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1835623/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic ** Description changed: Ubuntu 18.04 I expect Chrome to play videos. When I try to play any video on Google Chrome for Linux, any version of 75 or higher, Google Chrome freezes. Chrome 75 will allow sound but no video. All mouse clicks become unresponsive. Attempting to close Chrome after many mouse clicks causes Chrome to crash. Even worse it often also crashes Ubuntu 18.04. Google Chrome 74 or lower work without any problems playing videos. It is a Google Chrome Linux version 75 or higher problem. I cannot believe that neither Google or Ubuntu or any other Linux OS seem to completely ignore this extremely serious problem. [Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)
Wayland is not fully functional or compatible with Ubuntu 18.10 yet. So why use wayland in a full new distribution, and cause problems? It wasted 8 hours of my time to find the solution. Just because of 1 line in a gdm3 conf file. 1 wrong line in a config line, and Ubuntu fails. Ubuntu needs essential conf and system protection, so that 1 little change cannot derail the entire OS, or deleting or installing cannot remove essential files necessary to run the OS. After this many years Ubuntu is still incredibly easy to break. Essential, necessary configs and system files that run the basic OS should be read only! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798790 Title: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1798790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1737106] Re: attempt to read or write outside of disk
After some research I have selected /boot with 1GB size as the GRUB. I have had no more "outside of disk" problems. I do have a 2TB hard drive for Windows 10, where the GRUB is located. My ubuntu hard drive is only 1TB. However, booting from it would require me to boot Windows as secondary to ubuntu. Cairo-dock works great. Nemo is masrvelous.Synaptic is fast. I have found a programs, that make ubuntu much more safe to use: Timeshift by teejee2008 aka Tony George. If anything fatal happens to ubuntu. That us "human" users cannot fix, one boots to ubuntu by install disk, installs Timeshift, and restores ubuntu before the fatal flaw. All good and well, right? No, as soon as one thinks ubuntu is safe to use again, a new problem arises. Any new kernel install puts ubuntu into an infinite loop. I am stuck with 4.13.0-22-generic kernel. Any attempt to update to the next kernel or any other kernel results in the infinite loop. One must reboot, choose the previous kernel, delete the newer kernel, and decline to update to 4.13.0-24-generic kernel or newer. There is plenty of room in /boot, so that is not the problem. GO FISH! [Bug 1737106] [NEW] attempt to read or write outside of disk
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 17.10 newest kernel I can no longer access Ubuntu. it ALWAYS goes to outside of disk. I am dual booting with Windows 10 Windows 10 is first to boot, I select Ubuntu or Advanced section to boot Ubuntu. Have you considered an option of Windows or Ubuntu: choose, instead of making one or the other the default? I am so fed up with Ubuntu 17.10, that I may just give up using it ever again! The new Dock features are a disaster. They crash Ubuntu. I use cairo-dock, a much superior and far more adaptable dock than anything gnome can come up with. Every Ubuntu version you remove the users ability to repair Ubuntu without reinstalling it. fsck is now a nightmare to use. Nautilus is without a doubt the worst file explorer / manager ever created. Nemo is far superior! Synaptic is far superior to Software Install! And after all this time you still have not automated the basic programs, one still has to use the terminal like back in 1970! 17.10 is also unstable, it will all of the sudden go back to log in page for no reason. I report Ubuntu 17.10 basic system as a bug!!! Also Ubuntu is not hacker proof, newly installed Ubuntu has no real security ready, not even a firewall is activated! Ubuntu and Linux have given the hackers all the tools they want to hack Ubuntu easier than Windows! ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1737106 Title: attempt to read or write outside of disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1737106/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1307077] [NEW] 14.04 Ubuntu-GNOME beta (trusty) gets into a loop never booting all the way to login, gdm
Public bug reported: I had to go back to 13.10 Ubuntu-GNOME (saucy) to report this bug. because I was unable to use trusty beta. Even the boot options (Advanced Ubuntu Options) would not work. The normal repair options where not available to me. Any information from this bug report cannot substantiated the trusty beta bug because trusty beta is unusable right now and not even installed. I can only run 2 OS systems on my computer. If you could give me a step by step procedure on how to get back into gdm or login in trusty beta, I will reinstall trusty to fix this incomplete boot bug. [Bug 1079953] Re: Main Menu Editor alacarte is Completely Broken in xubuntu 12.10
when ubuntu went to Unity (actually should be called Chaos and Confusion), and then lied about how happy users are about it, they destroyed everthing else easy. Such as the Main Menu. It can no longer be edited to users satisfaction. True it took hours to make my own appnames, to sort them to my own directories, just as I wanted; (because they refused to simplify them and just make them menu text files, that could easily be moved, copied, deleted, backed up, and especially renamed and re-iconed. But atleast I could personalize the menu and thereby streamline my activities.) Now, I am chained to the whims of the programmers, Linux masters, and just as I feared, IT'S REALLY JUST ALL ABOUT MONEY AND POWER, NO open NO freedom! FIX the MENU, I know YOU can, IF you wanted to! I cannot, I am only a dumb, unimportant user!!! [Bug 751735] Re: [intel 82G35] HDMI color issues
3.2.0-34-generic-pae linux kernel update for Ubuntu 12.04 reintroduced the color issue same as 2.6.37 kernel version. Does the kernel update really have to degredate HDMI versus VGA signals? Do gnome updates really have to regress gnome extensions? Do people really have to lie about the Unity shell, saying that it's great, when over half of all linux users like the gnome shell better, especially when the gnome shell is coupled with the cairo-dock, which effectively creates a main menu and upfront accessible apps? And, yes you may not see the connection between kernel upgrades and the superiority of the gnome shell versus the unbelievable waste of time Unity is, both are examples of selfwill and lack of concern how drastic changes affect users like me. Without users Ubuntu and gnome would be NOTHING! Fixing user issues should be first priority! I get this: sudo apt-get update apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-shell sudo apt-get install -f sudo reboot (my notes are not accessible, because I am in the middle of a failed login to gnome) 600 packages ago I cloned my harddrive, to restore a healthy gnome (3.4) on this empty screen I only have firefox, due to this bug. the final message I receive is: No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting. I find a bug that causes severe enough problems, and I add my few cents worth. To me unity is not ubuntu nor even debian anymore, it has become about making money with cell-os phones, tablets, and the like. [Bug 873776] Re: after Ubuntu 11.10 release install will not log or boot into desktop
I would consider the boot log into the desktop solved by using Ubuntu 11.10 alternative release, however, there are still basic instabilities intermittent, random problems with 11.10: (by the way Synaptic Package Manager crashes every time, makes repairing, sorting dependencies, install uninstall very difficult, because the Ubuntu Software Center is a clumsy attempt to replace the best software manager of all of linux time, that is theSynaptic Package Manager) If I install software that oneiric (more likely Unity) does not like, Unity folds, one is left with nautilus, windows headers are gone, log out, restart options are gone as well. there is no retrace or apport to make a report. CtrlAltDel is the only option available, unless one has cairo-dock installed or some program like it. I have already had to reinstall oneiric. I believe, that Unity is inherently unstable, worse yet, inflexible. Ubuntu has had a good history with Gnome. Unfortunately, Oneiric does not embrace Gnome 3.2 fully, it was not developed for Unity to ride upon, the fact is, that these two, Gnome Unity, oppose each other. Re: [Bug 749895] Re: package amavisd-new-postfix 1:2.6.4-1ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I have decided not to use amavisd its kindreds. I prefer reading e-mail from their websites, also, clamAV, mobloquer, hosts file snort work well. Unity is more of a bug to me than amavisd. The unity launcher is almost always in the way. The rest of unity's clumsy, halfway functioning (do I dare call it a menu/apps/files/search/ time wasting) app/applet/I don't know/unity? the main menu is a blessing comparably. - Unfortunately ubuntu3 is as of yet uninstallable. I am sorry, my frustration is showing. The unity interface of OS UBUNTU 11.04 is destroying linux/ubuntu's good reputation, little bugs like in the install of amavisd seems very trivial indeed. We should unitedly get rid of unity! Again, apologies, BavarianPH, Ubuntu Forever! without becoming rigid, unbending, forcing people into Microsoft world. Let's not turn Ubuntu into such a nightmare, as Bill Gates allegedly did with his allegedly pirated Windows. PLEASE! Do not let 1 person rule open source Ubuntu. [Bug 761214] Re: synaptic becomes unresponsive while adding files
As of today I consider the Synaptic bug to be fixed. I literally install uninstall dozens to hundreds of files every day. Using Synaptic, Update Manager apt-get that much, would have revealed any problem by now. But all install/uninstall apps work great. [Bug 755664] Re: grub 1.99~rc looses automatc count when synaptic freezes, and one has to reboot to unfreeze natty-synaptic-package-manager.
Thank you Colin Watson. you are correct. I thought I found a connection. But most of my comments here should go to synaptic/natty problems, bug #755694 - Here is the real grub~1.99rc error: sudo grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv unset recordfail corrects the failure to count automatically boot into natty. However, sudo grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv unset recordfail only works once, the next reboot [restart] sets recordfail back to problem mode. it seems a lot like Bug #462888: Bug Description Binary package hint: grub2 Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala beta grub2~1.97-beta4-1ubuntu3 grub2 menu stays until I press enter. grubenv reads: recordfail=1 My understanding is, that it should only read 1 if there was a boot problem or a suspend / hibernate problem. The OS does put PC into suspend mode, I can awaken it from there. However, I have set Never mode for both PC Monitor (in Power Management), so it should not put the PC into suspend in the first place. But Grub2 apparently is told that the PC failed, because if I manually put recordfail=0 it always changes back to recordfail=1, thus the grub2 menu appears indefinitely, until I press enter. I have devised a work-around that fixes the symptom but not the actual bug: by adding the following to the bottom of the /etc/grub.d/40_custom script: fi if [ ${recordfail} = 1 ]; then set timeout=3 else set timeout=0 fi # end in this way if there was a problem with booting or suspend / hibernate one has whatever timeout one adds to this script, if grubenv were set with recordfail=0 it would boot without delay. As I wrote, it does not fix the actual bug, perhaps it really is two bugs. one in ACPI managing, the other in not resetting grub2 recordfail. as to Required input missing: I was unable to use the Record a problem... program, it refused to start, so I used: sudo ubuntu-bug grub2, to report. I could not find this exact bug described, so a new bug report may help. I have attached grub.cfg, which of course shows the altered 40_custom. - grub~1.99rc is not ready until recordfail is controlled by grub. If there is a reason for grub2 not to automatically boot, it would be helpful for grub to tell the user why, what to do. I am sorry for the grub/synaptic,natty mix-up, for still not knowing how to add more than one attachment at a time.
