[Bug 1698351] Re: Search in Nautilus Files does not allow sorting of results

2017-08-28 Thread Daniel Harvey
Thanks for the update. I've added my comments upstream as well.

Commentary: Unfortunately, I've stopped using Nautilus because of this
issue - I found that I used search sorted by modified date so frequently
that Nautilus without it became impractical.

[Bug 1698351] [NEW] Search in Nautilus Files does not allow sorting of results

2017-06-16 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

The version of nautilus/Files included with Ubuntu 17.04 no longer
allows sorting of search results.

Previously, sort was achieved by clicking on the column header titles.

This no longer works.

It represents a significant regression in the search feature.

Thanks.

[Bug 1481136] Re: Bluetooth mouse fails to reconnect after suspend + resume

2016-08-10 Thread Daniel Harvey
I'm still seeing this issue with 16.04.

Running the rkfill suggested by some does not work:

rfkill block bluetooth
rfkill unblock bluetooth

The only thing that works is running the following after the system
resumes:

service bluetooth restart

Note that if I have rfkill'ed, then after I have restarted the service,
I need to unblock again before the bluetooth will work again.

seeing the issue Kevin describes.

[Bug 1481136] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse fails to reconnect after suspend + resume

2015-08-03 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

I can connect the bluetooth mouse (Logitech M557) using the GUI and the
device works properly.

However, after suspend and resume the mouse fails to reconnect. It does
attempt to reconnect, in that I see the padlock flashes momentarily
onto the bluetooth icon on the toolbar applet. Similarly, if the
Bluetooth Settings dialog is open the devices flashes momentarily bold
as if connected. Both effects happen whenever the mouse is used
(movement or mouse click) but the device does not connect.

I have a workaround, which is to remove the device and pair it using the
command line as follows:

sudo bluez-test-device remove 00:1F:20:EF:B1:00
sudo bluez-simple-agent hci0 00:1F:20:EF:B1:00 remove
sudo bluez-simple-agent hci0 00:1F:20:EF:B1:00
sudo bluez-test-device trusted 00:1F:20:EF:B1:00 yes
sudo bluez-test-input connect 00:1F:20:EF:B1:00

Once paired manually in this manner the devices appears in the Bluetooth
Settings as normal an successfully reconnects when resuming.

I'm submitted a new bug as this is similar but not the same as other
bugs reported. In particular the workarounds presented in other bugs do
not work for me and the workaround I'm using was not suggested in other
cases.

Thanks.

[Bug 1322925] Re: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus

2014-09-16 Thread Daniel Harvey
Workaround

What I do is this:
1. Open the destination in another tab in Nautilus.
2. Select the files/folders in the original tab.
3. Right click and select Move To... or Copy To...
4. The other open tabs are shown under Places in the dialog.
5. Select and go.

Would love to see this fixed but I survive with this workaround.

[Bug 989624] Re: Netbeans font type is bold, menu font color is grey

2012-05-01 Thread Daniel Harvey
Suggested work-around copied from James Powell on a Netbeans forum page
( http://forums.netbeans.org/post-127693.html ).

Hi guys, you may have noticed that a new LTS been released several hours ago.
It has a bug in a default gtk2 theme Ambiance.
All java applications menus will have a black font on a black background.
Bug already reported on launchpad, but have no idea when it will be fixed, so
here is a solution:
sudo vim /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Find a row 338 with contents:
style menu {

and make it look like this:
style menu = dark {

save and your java menus will be fine.

[Bug 797702] Re: Global menu of background instead of foreground window shown

2011-07-30 Thread Daniel Harvey
I also think the priority is too low for this issue. I am not sure how I
reproduce the problem, or how to workaround it. Once it has occurred
(see example attached), it makes working really problematic until the
problem corrects itself (not sure how).

Suggest significantly increasing the priority. It can't be that hard to
ensure global menu is on top?

[Bug 803013] Re: Ctrl+C / Ctrl+B do not copy to the clipboard

2011-07-02 Thread Daniel Harvey
Ouch. The behaviour has changed. I tested extensively prior to
submitting, however, after making the following two changes things seem
to be working again:

1. Close VMWare Player (suspending Windows VM) and restart (resuming VM).
2. Suspend laptop overnight.

Now, everything appears to work OK, noting as Julian did above, the
gnome-terminal funny stuff.

So, I can no longer reproduce. Julian, would you please close?

[Bug 803013] [NEW] Ctrl+C / Ctrl+B do not copy to the clipboard

2011-06-28 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

When I copy the username/password to the clipboard, I see messages like:

SendMessage (75497497, 0x444, 0x1, 0x98d4f98)

but the username/password is NOT copied to the clipboard. 100%
repeatable.

I am on 11.04 with all packages up-to-date as at now.

Any ideas?

[Bug 383397] [NEW] Key repeat settings lost after waking from hibernate

2009-06-03 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The Repeat Keys settings under gnome-keyboard-properties (menu System
-- Prefererences -- Keyboard) are consistently lost after my laptop
running up-to-date Jaunty wakes up from hibernate.

Specifically:
1. I set the key repeat speed to fast (80% on slider).
2. Key repeats are set and working correctly.
3. Hiberate laptop.
4. Wake up laptop.
5. Key repeats are not set (back to slow default).
6. Open up keyboard preferences and move slider one pixel up and one pixel back
down.

repeats behaviour is 100% repeatable.

[Bug 221144] Re: After upgrading to hardy, gnome-terminal windows are not properly restored on login

2008-05-22 Thread Daniel Harvey
I have a different test case which I would like to have others try out.

1. Right click in one of the windows and select Edit Current Profile.
2. Change something e.g. Add a character to Select-by-word characters.

As the change is made (i.e. immediately the key is typed), all other
terminals EXCEPT the one that was selected revert to 80x25 characters in
size.

I've attached before and after screenshots in case my wording is unclear
:-)

Anyone else get this behaviour? It seems to confirm that this is gnome-
terminal bug and not a WM bug.

[Bug 147174] Compiz won't start

2007-09-30 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

For about the past week, compiz has not been alble start - prior to that
it was working fine (I first installed it directly off the Gutsy Tribe 5
CD).

I am currently running compiz version 1:0.5.2+git20070928-0ubuntu1

My output trying to run compiz and running other various tests mentioned
in other bugs is as follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Blacklisted PCIID '8086:2a02' found
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

conf:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo home: $XDG_CONFIG_HOME

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I do not have the file ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager

My /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager looks like:

# work with git://anongit.compiz-fusion.org/fusion/misc/compiz-manager
COMPIZ_BIN_PATH=/usr/bin/
PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib/compiz/
COMPIZ_NAME=compiz.real

Hope this helps - I'm keen to get compiz back :-)

[Bug 136592] Re: workspace switch mouse click switch does not work

2007-09-12 Thread Daniel Harvey
My desktop has 6 workspaces - see attached screenshot.

Staring in workspace 4, when I click on:
- 1 goes to workspace 4
- 2 -- 6
- 3 -- 2
- 4 -- 4
- 5 -- 6
- 6 -- 2

However, this behaviour changes depending on the starting workspace.

Mmm... any ideas?

[Bug 130450] Re: compiz-fusion does not start on login

2007-09-02 Thread Daniel Harvey
Not fixable? I don't understand - I'm happy *personally* to run compiz
each time I log in.

BUT, as usability a issue it seems to be unacceptable that a user
running compiz does not get a window manager when they log in. This can
be a major pain - for example, when I log in the windows (without the
window manager) obscure the top gnome panel and applications menu,
making it quite painful to get to a terminal to start compiz etc. This
is not satisfactory for an everyday user.

Am I missing something (happy if I am...)?

[Bug 84201] Re: Right click unmount (umount) of loop device fails

2007-04-16 Thread Daniel Harvey
I passed this over the linux crypto list as it may have related to the
loop-aes code. Comment received from Jari Ruusu
[EMAIL PROTECTED] detailed below. I think that the
problem can be confirmed that umount parameter needs to match mount.

In this case, option (3) below is used in which case the loop device is
set up by the mount command. This means that /dev/loop4 was *not*
mounted and should not be un-mounted. Specifically, nautilus should
executed umount /media/usbdisk/fs not umount /dev/loop4.

--

My fstab mount line represents the following:

 /media/usbdisk/.fs.ext3 -- /dev/loop4 -- /media/usbdisk/fs ext2
file containing EXT3 filesystem -- loop device -- mounted EXT3
 filesystem

That is journaling file system on file backed loop.
loop-AES README section 2.2.

The problem is that in the past, umount /dev/loop4 worked, but NOT any
 more.

There are three ways to mount loop devices:

1) Do loop setup/teardown manually:

   losetup -e AES128 -K foo.gpg /dev/loop4 /dev/hda999
   mount -t ext3 /dev/loop4 /mnt
   umount /mnt (or umount /dev/loop4 )
   losetup -d /dev/loop4

2) Let mount/umount do loop setup/teardown for you:

   mount -t ext3 /dev/hda999 /mnt -o
loop=/dev/loop4,encryption=AES128,gpgkey=foo.gpg
   umount /mnt (or umount /dev/hda999 )

3) The fstab way, mount/umount do loop setup/teardown for you:

   /etc/fstab line:
/dev/hda999 /mnt ext3
defaults,noauto,loop=/dev/loop4,encryption=AES128,gpgkey=foo.gpg,user=daniel 0 0

   mount /mnt
   umount /mnt (or umount /dev/hda999 )

 However mount shows:

 /media/usbdisk/.fs.ext3 on /media/usbdisk/fs type ext2
 (rw,nosuid,nodev,loop=/dev/loop4,user=daniel)

Looks like you used method (1) earlier and are now using method (3). umount
needs mountpoint directory or backing device that was used at mount time. If
you didn't mount /dev/loop4 device directly, then you should not expect
umount /dev/loop4 to work either.

Try umount /media/usbdisk/fs or umount /media/usbdisk/.fs.ext3

[Bug 84201] Re: Right click unmount (umount) of loop device fails

2007-03-07 Thread Daniel Harvey
Yes, /media/usbdisk is a mounted USB device, and the mount point is a
directory 'fs' within this.

I've done some more checking and I don't believe this is related to the
problem. The problem appears to be related to mount/umount and the use
of loop devices.

My mount line represents the following:

/media/usbdisk/.fs.ext3 -- /dev/loop4 -- /media/usbdisk/fs ext2
file containing EXT3 filesystem -- loop device -- mounted EXT3 filesystem

The problem is that in the past, umount /dev/loop4 worked, and this is
the command that the Gnome interface is executing.

My setup is as follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -S /bin/umount
diversion by loop-aes-utils from: /bin/umount
diversion by loop-aes-utils to: /bin/umount.orig
mount, loop-aes-utils: /bin/umount

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l mount loop-aes-utils

||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii loop-aes-utils 2.12r-11 Tools for mounting and manipulating filesyst
ii mount 2.12r-11ubuntu Tools for mounting and manipulating filesyst

So, perhaps the problem is loop-aes-utils?

[Bug 79323] Daylight Saving changes in Western Australia

2007-01-14 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server-common

From Bug #72125: Daylight Saving changes in Western Australia

Western Australia is going to be starting a trial of Daylight Saving on
December 3, 2006 until March 31, 2007, moving us from UTC+8 to UTC+9
over that time period.

This has been fixed in dapper and edgy in the tzdata package (approved
for update to respective updates as at 15/01/07) but the evolution ICS
file remains unchanged.

The file that (I believe) requires fixing is:

/usr/share/evolution-data-server-1.8/zoneinfo/Australia/Perth.ics

Daniel.

affects evolution (as noted above). I've reported a separate bug (Bug

Thanks for the tzdata fix!

[Bug 26083] Re: 'Bad header line' error trying to update breezy/dapper

2006-10-13 Thread Daniel Harvey
I can't reproduce this any more... something in the archive changed over
the last week, and it now works. For the record, up until then it was
100% reproducible for the linux-image-686 package as described above.

[Bug 26083] Re: 'Bad header line' error trying to update breezy/dapper

2006-09-29 Thread Daniel Harvey
I get this running dapper with apt 0.6.43.3ubuntu when running apt-get
on the package linux-image-686.

As requested by Michael, I have attached the stdout and stderr for the
apt-get debug.

If you would like me to test anything else, please let me know.

It does not happen on every package, just some - so I will hold off
manually upgrading in case you want me to test something.

Cheers.

[Bug 62732] tinyproxy error connecting to plone.org website

2006-09-28 Thread Daniel Harvey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tinyproxy

When I connect to plone.org using Firefox through tinyproxy, it fails
and I get the following report in the tinyproxy log:

CONNECT Sep 28 15:09:47 [10080]: Connect (file descriptor 7): localhost
[127.0.0.1]
CONNECT Sep 28 15:09:47 [10080]: Request (file descriptor 7): GET
http://plone.org/ HTTP/1.1
INFO Sep 28 15:09:47 [10080]: No proxy for plone.org
CONNECT Sep 28 15:09:47 [10080]: Established connection to host plone.org
using file descriptor 8.
WARNING Sep 28 15:09:48 [10080]: Could not retrieve all the headers from the
remote server.

Obviously, the site works connecting directly (not through tinyproxy).

** Affects: tinyproxy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
