Seems to work in 0.2.3-2 (in quantal), not obvious what fixed it though. [Bug 1054502] Re: man page dd - Sending USR1 signal
That example certainly isn't clear. I don't think you need the kill -CONT, as far as I can tell the -USR1 will display the info and just carry on without any other requirement. So it's not obvious to me what the kill $pid in the original example is supposed to do, if you look at the info page for dd it uses a more complex example that makes some more sense: Sending an `INFO' signal to a running `dd' process makes it print I/O statistics to standard error and then resume copying. In the example below, `dd' is run in the background to copy 10 million blocks. The `kill' command makes it output intermediate I/O statistics, and when `dd' completes normally or is killed by the `SIGINT' signal, it outputs the final statistics. $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null count=10MB pid=$! $ kill -s INFO $pid; wait $pid 3385223+0 records in 3385223+0 records out 1733234176 bytes (1.7 GB) copied, 6.42173 seconds, 270 MB/s 1000+0 records in 1000+0 records out 512000 bytes (5.1 GB) copied, 18.913 seconds, 271 MB/s On systems lacking the `INFO' signal `dd' responds to the `USR1' signal instead, unless the `POSIXLY_CORRECT' environment variable is set. It's possible the kill $pid in the example is just there to kill off the backgrounded dd. Confirming because at the very least the example is confusing. ** Changed in: coreutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: coreutils (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054502 Title: man page dd - Sending USR1 signal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coreutils/+bug/1054502/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1058289] Re: Critical readline6 patch not included
Hi John, Looking on Quantal, it looks like 6.2-9 has got the changes; I don't know if it has gone into anything earlier. The changelog entry reads: readline6 (6.2-9) unstable; urgency=low * Apply upstream patches 002 - 004. Fixes: - The readline shared library helper script needs to be updated for Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion, darwin11). - A change between readline-6.1 and readline-6.2 to prevent the readline input hook from being called too frequently had the side effect of causing delays when reading pasted input on systems such as Mac OS X. [Bug 234225] Re: jfs_mkfs: double free or corruption
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug seems to have been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Quantal Quetzal; I've tried with version 1.1.15-2 of jfsutils on dummy (sparse) files upto 9TB in size (the wonders of sparse files) and it seems fine. However, if you can add some more detail about how you can repeat it then that would be useful - e.g. does it happen on any device or just a particular size/device? Hi Ezra, Thanks for reporting this bug; I was just working through some old bugs and noticed your bug, apologies that no one has got to it in the mean time. [Bug 508973] Re: improper matching of certain words
Hi Adam, I think you need to use the -k option to get the behaviour you want. As I read the manpage what agrep does is search for the 'pattern' - and that pattern includes searching for the regexp, and then if it doesn't find it gives you the 'best' (with -B). But because you passed it things with '.' they form part of a regexp meaning 'anything' so the regexp matches properly, and it never goes into finding a 'best' case. -k solves that by never allowing regexp. ** Changed in: agrep (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508973 Title: improper matching of certain words To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/agrep/+bug/508973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 914037] Re: agrep gives incorrect output in some approximate searches
Hi Eric, Hmm, yes this is a bit confusing, I agree your 'agrep -S1' case is producing the wrong result, however in 4.17-9 the manpage says: ' -SkSet the cost of a substitution to k (k is a positive integer). This option does not currently work with regular expressions.' so, I think that's just a limitation on agrep 4.17 I agree the -1 case is wrong to emit 'aterfal' since I agree it's nowhere in the input (and that's why I've confirmed it). [Bug 1055068] Re: Guest user can use arbitrary MAC addresses
Well, I don't think I'd expect a guest to be able to set an arbitrary IP either. As for 'if you've got physical access all is lost' - that makes a lot of assumptions. For example in a school or something the actual machines and cabling might be in a security case with the cabling trunked down. Another example is that you could expect to leave a bunch of people in an area using guest accounts and not have to monitor them closely; you'd notice if they were diving behind the machine at the cabling. I've also got inetutils-talkd (2:1.9-1) to work with ytalk using openbsd-inetd So that sounds like both talkd's are OK. However, if I run inetutils-talkd with inetutils-inetd (which you would think sane) it doesn't work with the log error: Sep 27 02:44:06 major inetd[31537]: talk/tcp: getaddrinfo: Servname not supported for ai_socktype which does sound suspiciously similar (but not quite the same as the original report - even though I'm not sure whether the original reporter really intended to report it against inetutils or talkd. Hi Christopher, (Triager/Not the original reporter) I agree that setting the zoom does fix it - good spot, so it does seem to be a choice of default zoom that seems to be the problem. However, calligra seems to make a more sane guess at the default zoom, and it's visible on opening, so I think it's still a valid bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030250 Title: This paricular file looks broken in Calc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1030250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Confirmed: I could recreate this Medium: This is the universe version of samba not the main one; and also if this is just a default config problem then it's not a high; although I don't know enough Samba to know if it's really more serious. [Bug 218837] Re: Assigning instead of Comparing
Hi ek2, No I don't think so, you don't specify the verison of ksh93 that you looked at, I've gone pack to ksh93r which looks like it's from a bit before you reported it and that has the code you list, at line 519 - of name.c, not main.c : 514if((nq = (*fp-disc-createf)(np,cp+1,flags,fp)) == np) 515{ 516 add = NV_ADD; 517 break; 518 } 519 else if(np=nq) 520 c = *(cp=dp-last=fp-last); and I think that's still valid; 514: That assigns nq with the value of creatf AND compares it with np 515-518 gets executed if the value of creatf matches the np value 519 That assigns the new nq to np, and executes the code at 520 iff nq (and therefore now np) is non-null horrible code, but I don't see an error there. [Bug 218837] Re: Assigning instead of Comparing
I'm not convinced this is a bug (although please check my reasoning); the code is still present in ast-ksh.2012-09-11 upstream source but has moved to name.c around line 1201. That (horrible) block of code is: 1if((nq = (*fp-disc-createf)(np,cp+1,flags,fp)) == np) 2 { 3 add = NV_ADD; 4 shp-last_table = 0; 5 break; 6 } 7 else if(np=nq) 8 { 9if((c = *(sp=cp=dp-last=fp-last))==0) 10 { 11 if(nv_isarray(np) sp[-1]!=']') 12 nv_putsub(np,NIL(char*),ARRAY_UNDEF); 13 return(np); 14 } 15 } (all 3 or 4 levels down in the middle of a do/while loop) My reading of that is that (using my line numbering I added above) (1) Assigning nq a new value from the call to *createf, and if it matches np execute the block lines 3-5 (7) If the new nq didn't match np, then we get to the if (np=nq) which is the line in question, they can't be intending to compare np with nq because that's what (1) just did, so I think they really intend to do an assignment to np, which possibly gets returned at (13) but more importantly the 'np is set up for the next iteration around the do/while loop. If you diddmesg dmesg.myoutput that'll save it in a file that you can somehow copy off; similarly the other log files will be in /var/log Probably the easiest thing to do is to plug a USB thumb drive in when it hangs, if you're lucky the drive will automount itself in something like /media/something (do ls /media before and after plugging the thumb drive in); if not you might have to do it manually by mkdir /tmp/adir mount /dev/sd?? /tmp/adir (where /dev/sd?? is /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1 depending which is next free). and then you can use cp dmesg.myoutput /tmp/adir (or /media/whatever if it put it there) and when you're done do umount /tmp/adir before pulling the thumb drive out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/920035 Title: Precise alternate (and therefore LTSP) install fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/920035/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1047998] [NEW] iscsi root: iscsi not started in initramfs
Public bug reported: Ubuntu server daily disk; 20120908 (amd64) I have a kvm guest which is diskless, I've done an install (off CD image) onto an iscsi disk (that's provided by another VM running tgt). But it won't boot after install (maybe related to 881388?) (Host is Quantal as of today but with 3.5.2-030502 to get around bug 1045027) The install goes apparently fine; I tell it the IP of the target, pick the (only) target, and there's no auth. I just pick openssh-server as the only item of task to install. I boot, bring up iPXE's command prompt (with ctrl-b) and enter: dhcp net0 sanboot iscsi:192.168.122.10:::1:iqn.2008-09.com.example:server1.share1 and it brings up grub and starts to boot and eventually lands at the initramfs prompt saying it can't find the root volume. Using rescue mode I can see a lot of ipconfig: no devices to configure and /scripts/local-top/iscsi: .: line 505: can't open '/run/net-*.conf' (it's right there isn't any) and *then* I see the messages about the networking coming up and finding a link. If I manually ifconfig the interface and run /scripts/local-top/iscsi it brings it up and I can continue the boot and it boots OK. This happens with the network interface configured as e1000 and hypervisor default (8139 something) I'll attach the VM config from the host.
