[Bug 1830210] Re: kernel panic on iwlwifi 7260

Running mainline kernel from mainline archive, and no issue so far. So a
problem in the ubuntu kernel. Current version:

2019-05-23 Thread Jos Dehaes
Note this started since 19.04. Before this didn't happen. Altough the
intel 7260 has never really worked well in linux. There are thousands of
complaints about this on launchpad and elsewhere.

[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades

2015-02-11 Thread Jos Dehaes
Tested now with 3.19 final, and 7260-12 firmware (25.15.12.0), still the
same: associates, but throughput is in the order of bytes per second.
When I remove the iwlwifi and iwlmvm modules, remove the newer firmware
versions, and make the driver load the -9 firmware, it works quite well.

I don't see how this could be a BIOS issue. If no action happens here, I
will report upstream.

[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades

2015-02-08 Thread Jos Dehaes
Really? This is a very small laptop with no CD drive, it also has a
small SSD, so it does not have windows. I tried making a windows rescue
USB drive, but it doesn't do anything because there is no windows on the
drive, and on top it wiped the GRUB bootblock. The only way for me to
upgrade the BIOS would be to install windows, update the BIOS, then re-
install ubuntu. Do you really want me to do all this, while the benefit
is quite questionable for this problem?

As stated in description, I already tested with 3.19-rc6+iwlwifi fixes
and now 3.19-rc7 also. It does not fix the issue. Kernel version does
not seem to matter much, it looks more like a firmware problem.

[Bug 1417552] [NEW] iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades

2015-02-03 Thread Jos Dehaes
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio Pro 11 which has a intel 7260 wifi chip. I've had
nothing but trouble with it (and from reading forums, I'm not alone). I
file this bug to help fix issues.

My findings with recent kernels: laptop has Ubuntu Vivid installed,
which comes with the 3.18 kernel and 23.11.10 firmware. With the -10
firmware, often the wifi doesn't even associate with the access point,
while all other devices in the house can. When it does connect, the
speed is fast for about 1 second (around 10 MB/s), en then drops to
20-60 kbps, or loses connection altogether. With self-compiled 3.19-rc6
(with latest iwlwifi-fixes merged) it's the same. I tried the 23.12.10
firmware, but it is the same.

When I switch to the 25.228.9 firmware, it is much better, however,
speed still drops every now and then, but much less than with the -10
firmware. Kernel version doesn't seem to matter much, firmware version
seems to drive all variability.

This problem is for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

I can provide all debugging info you request. I will provide the minimum
logging tonight when I get home.

[Bug 1417552] Re: iwlwifi 7260 loses connection, performance degrades

2015-02-03 Thread Jos Dehaes
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected vivid

** Description changed:

[Bug 704231] Re: Unity steals super modifier key

Also in a fullscreen NX session. Pressing super pops up the Unity dash
of the client PC over the NX root window. You can not close it with the

I've had to do the same as vladf. On my laptop the flashplugin-installer
worked fine, on the desktop it didn't (both up to date natty). Strange,
as the network settings are exactly the same, and go over the same
router. Manually downloaded via wget.

[Bug 363791] [NEW] [jaunty] evolution crashes on suspend

2009-04-19 Thread Jos Dehaes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

On Jaunty: After resuming from suspend (to ram, haven't tried
hibernate), evolution is gone. All other programs are still there. This
happens every time, and is a regression, used to work in intrepid.

I don't know how to go about debugging it, apport is not generating any
report for it. I think it's related to losing the network.

[Bug 298400] Re: Please move default-jdk to 'Depends'

2009-03-10 Thread Jos Dehaes
ant now depends on default-jdk, and recommends ant-gcj. However, ant
still depends on libxerces2-java, which depends on libxerces2-java-gcj,
which pulls in gcj. I'd much rather have libxerces2-java depend on
default-jdk too.

[Bug 230217] [NEW] [hardy] kernel crash on iwl3945 with 2.6.24-17 kernel

2008-05-14 Thread Jos Dehaes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

There is a new kernel in hardy-proposed, 2.6.24-17. I installed this
kernel and the backports modules. This results in a kernel crash when
the iwl3945 driver is in use. I had this crash when I resumed (no wired
connection) from suspend (wired connection). After reboot, when the nm-
applet was about to load, the same crash (caps lock scroll lock leds
flashing). There is no information in the logs.

Using the 2.6.24-16 kernel is no problem, as is using the -17 kernel
with wired network.

[Bug 40125] Re: Network cards not detected when resuming from suspend / hibernate

2008-04-23 Thread Jos Dehaes
For me it is fixed 99% of the time in hardy (intel iwl3945 and NM).
Yesterday after a suspend/resume spree to try and reproduce another bug,
after about 10 cycles in very short time, the NetworkManager daemon
failed to reconnect. I killed it and restarted, and this fixed it. But
normally it works fine.

[Bug 42842] Re: severe display corruption when changing screen resolution

2008-04-23 Thread Jos Dehaes
actually, base hardy does not exhibit this behaviour anymore. It's fixed
for me, I tried to change the resolution to something lower than the
native resolution and back, and it worked fine, no screen corruption.

As far as I'm concerned, this can be closed.

[Bug 219396] Re: [hardy] sometimes fails to suspend, lots of kernel messages in logs

2008-04-22 Thread Jos Dehaes
Ok, I retried with latest updates, and the behaviour has changed. I
freshly booted, and then did the 4 command as described, and attached
above. Then I tried to suspend 3 times, every time it took *very* long
to go to sleep, more than one minute. Eventually it flashes some text on
the screen about CIFS, and then goes to sleep. Before it would flash
said text, and then come back up in X. In the dmesg I could find the
text, it is:

[ 27.635409] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4 socket. Aborting operation
[ 27.635476] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -101

This message is repeated every time I try to suspend the machine. Laptop
was running on battery power, and no CIFS shares are mounted. The SMB
daemon is running however, but I have not defined any shares.

After the second suspend, the machine would power on again, and go into
X, and the password dialog came up, but I could not type anything, move
the mouse or switch VT. I suspended the machine again, and the next time
it came up fine.

Attached is a dmesg after 3 suspend/resume cycles.

[Bug 219396] Re: [hardy] sometimes fails to suspend, lots of kernel messages in logs

2008-04-22 Thread Jos Dehaes
Ok, the CIFS error put me on the right track. There was a CIFS mount
defined in /etc/fstab, from the work network, that is not accessible
from home. I forgot the noauto parameter. After I added the noauto mount
option, I was able to suspend resume 6 times in a row without problem.
Marking as invalid.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-04-21 Thread Jos Dehaes
I can confirm that in hardy RC suddenly the rate is by default 1MB/s.
This was not the case in earlier hardy kernels. Manually setting the
rate to 54M, I get downloads of 1MB/s (20 Mbit line). Setting the rate
manually should not be necessary.

[Bug 219396] [NEW] [hardy] sometimes fails to suspend, lots of kernel messages in logs

2008-04-18 Thread Jos Dehaes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

In gutsy, my laptop (dell latitude D820, nvidia) could suspend/resume
without problems. It also worked fine in hardy some time earlier. But
lately, often the machine refuses to suspend, it sits on a console for
some time, and then switches back to X. When I check the logs, there are
many entries that look like kernel stacktraces (see attachment). This is
a regression.

[Bug 95089] Re: ubuntu kernel removes CAP_SETPCAP

2008-01-08 Thread Jos Dehaes
I don't understand this explanation. With CAP_SETPCAP, I can give a
process only priviliges to e.g. bind a low port, instead of full root
privileges. How is this a bad thing?

Cool! This allows more granular permissions for users. I'll test it out
when the new hardy kernel comes out.

[Bug 178253] Re: flashplugin-nonfree not working with epiphany

2007-12-25 Thread Jos Dehaes
strace reveals that epiphany is looking in xulrunner directories for
plugins, and not in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins.

I created a symlink in my ~/.mozilla to that dir, and that works:
