+ kernel oops triggered by read_all_sys in ubuntu_ltp/fs on J-5.15 / J-5.17
ARM64 "helo-kernel"

** Description changed:

Issue found on Jammy 5.17.0-8-generic #8~22.04.2-Ubuntu and Jammy
  5.15.0-27-generic with ARM64 node helo-kernel only.

It looks like this is hardware-specific.

The read_all_sys test in fs from ubuntu_ltp will cause kernel oops and
  test will timeout.
+
+ Steps to reproduce this:
+ git clone -b sru git://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+git/ltp
+ cd ltp
+ make autotools
+ ./configure
+ make
+ make install
+ echo "read_all_sys read_all -d /sys -q -r 3" > /tmp/fs
+ sudo /opt/ltp/runltp -f /tmp/fs

[Bug 1972894] Re: Touchpad does not work

2022-05-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Summary changed:

- After replacing the original HDD in my Acer Aspire ES1-311-C4Q6 with an ADATA
240GB SSD I installed Ubuntu 20.04.1 from a Linux Format magazine DVD. The
installation appeared to complete correctly. However, on rebooting the laptop
there was no response to the Touchpad. Using "less /proc/bus/devices" results
in a list that shows no touchpad or mouse detected.

[Bug 1972791] Re: If i want my P.C. OK, i must to start with the 5.11.0-40-generic Kernel Release . Not another.

2022-05-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,

a couple things that worth a try:
* Check if there is any additional driver available, hit the windows key on
your keyboard and search for "additional drivers"
* Or, install the OEM kernel on your Focal release, it will bring 5.14 kernel
to you computer
sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04
* Or, try the latest LTS release 22.04 Jammy
* If your computer is still not working with possible solutions above, I would
say give it a try with older releases, you can install Focal 20.04.1 (with 5.4
kernel) or Bionic 18.04.1 (with 4.15 kernel) they are all supported.

[Bug 1968681] Re: rdpru in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests failed on B-4.15 node riccioli with FAIL: RDPRU raises #UD

2022-05-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

- Issue found on B-ibm-gt-4.15.0-1116.127
+ [Impact]
+ rdpru test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests is to check if the RDPRU instruction can
be intercepted by the Hypervisor.
+
+ RDPRU is one of the new instruction set extensions of AMD "Zen 2" CPUs
+ that is for reading a processor register that is typically limited to
+ privilege level zero. RDPRU allows for reading select registers at any
+ privilege level. With Linux 5.5, the RDPRU presence will be advertised
+ by the CPU features.
+
+ Without this patchset, the rdpru test will fail on our AMD Zen 2 system
+ "riccioli"
+
+ [Fix]
+ * 9d40b85b x86/cpufeatures: Add feature bit RDPRU on AMD
+ * 0cb8410b kvm: svm: Intercept RDPRU
+
+ We have these patches in newer releases already, only Bionic 4.15
+ require this fix. And they can be cherry-picked without any conflict.
+
+ [Test]
+ With the patched kernel, this rdpru test will pass on the target AMD Zen 2
system.

2022-05-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,

it's not recommended to stay with an old kernel, especially 5.11 kernel
has already reaches its end-of-life in Jan. 2022

Please give 5.13 hwe kernel a try, a `sudo apt dist-upgrade` should
bring that to you.

[Bug 1967493] Re: pl2303 serial adapter not recognized

2022-05-06 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,
thanks for testing this out,
from the attachment it looks like your pl2303 does not work with the new device
detection algorithm in 5.13 kernel:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-impish.git/tree/drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c#n421
Which can only handle devices with bcdUSB 1.10 and 2.00

However yours is 1.01:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 067b:2303 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port
Device Descriptor:
  bLength18
  bDescriptorType 1

  bMaxPacketSize064
  idVendor 0x067b Prolific Technology, Inc.
  idProduct 0x2303 PL2303 Serial Port
  bcdDevice3.00

I would suggest you to give the latest mainline kernel [1] a try to see
if this issue exist with the latest kernel, you will find instructions
here [2].

If the issue still exist, please report this issue to linux-
u...@vger.kernel.org, indicating the kernel version and attach the lsusb
-v output for this device.

Thanks!

2022-05-03 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi Robie,
thanks for the reply,

It make sense to require twice of the image size as per the verification
requirement, however it looks like in this case it's using more than two
times of it.

The image is just around 600M, so it should be just 600M in /tmp and
600M more in libvirt after it's been verified. 3.0G free space should be
enough, but it's not.

Maybe I am missing some pieces here?
Thanks

[Bug 1971215] [NEW] hwclock failed on 5.13 Oracle ARM64 bare-metal BM.Standard.A1.160

2022-05-02 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Issue found on:
  * 5.4.0-1071.77~18.04.1
  * 5.4.0-1071.77

Passed on:
  * 5.13.0-1028.33~20.04.1
  * 5.13.0-1028.33
  * 5.15.0-1004.6

Not failing with 4.15.0-1093.102 / 4.15.0-1093.102~16.04.1 as this
instance was not tested there

Test failed with:
hwclock: Cannot access the Hardware Clock via any known method.

This is a new node added in this cycle, so this is not a regression.
Looks like a kernel support issue to me.

[Bug 1970896] Re: uvt-simplestreams-libvirt in ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test will eat up all disk free space on Jammy AWS baremetal

2022-04-29 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
When you run this `uvt-simplestreams-libvirt sync` command, I noticed there
will be two files created in /tmp:
-rw--- 1 root root 575M Apr 29 09:23 tmpf17tglw6
-rw--- 1 root root 1.4G Apr 29 09:23 tmpi4lq8p24
After that, it will start writing image file in
/var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/, the file size reaches about 1.1G then disk
space runs out
root@a1.metal:/var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images# ls -alh
total 1.1G
-rw--- 1 root root 1.1G Apr 29 09:14

Hi,
this sounds like a duplicated issue of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-hwe-5.13/+bug/1966066

Can you give the 5.13.0-41-generic proposed kernel a try?

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

OK I misread Stefan's comment,

checking the report again, it's using the consistent version
(1:4.0.12-0ubuntu1~20.04.1)) for both lxc and test cases (source) on
that s390x zVM.

Please find attachment for the full test log.

I will switch the bug status back to New.

Tried this on a Focal AMD64 instance, and it passed with
1:4.0.12-0ubuntu1~20.04.1

Stefan is right, the tool was not updated on that s390x SUT.

Sorry for the noise, this is a manually provisioned system and this
-proposed stuff must be something leftover from the past.

[Bug 1969905] Re: lxc-test-no-new-privs in ubuntu_lxc failed on F-s390x zVM (lxc 1:4.0.12-0ubuntu1~20.04.1 )

2022-04-22 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi Christian,
we just found that it's because we have universe -proposed enabled on that node
only. (Which should be disabled for our SRU test)
On other instances they're still using the old test case from
1:4.0.6-0ubuntu1~20.04.1.

I can give it a try on AMD64 instance.

[Bug 1969147] Re: touchpad not working wifi graphics

2022-04-14 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hi,
thanks for the bug report, 18.04 might be too old for your system, please give
a newer release a try (e.g. 20.04.4, or even the upcoming 22.04) and let us
know if it helps.

For bug reports, it would be nice to have one issue per report, see:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
