[Bug 50320] Re: Kubuntu's system settings app doesn't handle file associations
Bugs can be rejected for many reasons. Not just because what you said isn't factually correct. For instance some reported bugs are just the way Kubuntu (or KDE) have decided to do things, much like other distros may have chosen to do things differently; "won't fix" ie. this is a feature decision rather than a bug; not enough details etc. I think your bug report was initially rejected on the grounds that in KDE you normally set file associations within konqueror. Which is a design decision. In Kubuntu you can still run kcontrol if you want to access the file associations that way, however System Settings is the configuration tool in Kubuntu. System Settings I think is much easier for people to use and features will continue to be added to it. -- Kubuntu's system settings app doesn't handle file associations https://launchpad.net/bugs/50320 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60698] Re: Change "Apply"+"Cancel"+"OK" to "Reset"+"Apply Changes"
I already wrote an email to the GNOME usability list about finish/close. The decision to make gnome-app-install a dialog was made by the developers and not by the authors of the HIG. But I think that is ok to use the dialog style. Since all capplets are dialogs. Furthermore I would regard it as a preferences dialog of the desktop. Using a full blown app window also adds a lot of complexity to the application. When I started my review of g-a-i we had a mixed situation: It had elemets of both, dialog and app window. -- Change "Apply"+"Cancel"+"OK" to "Reset"+"Apply Changes" https://launchpad.net/bugs/60698 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60997] Re: UVF - New Upstream Release
Changelog: If you are a user of the latest development release (1.3.91), the only change is the support for the video duration in slideshows. If on the other hand, you are still using latest stable release (1.3.1), here is a summary of the most important changes between 1.3.1 and 1.4.0: - SVG and video support has been added. - The toolbars have been reworked: only the most important items are in the main toolbar. Actions specific to the current image have been moved to an image view toolbar. - A filter bar has been added to the file view. It lets you filter files by type, name pattern and date. - The file view from the folder KPart now features the same toolbar as in the application. - To get faster startup times and reduce the memory usage, KIPI plugins are not loaded until the "Plugins" menu is opened. - A new delete dialog has been added, borrowing some code from Amarok and Juk. - When available, Gwenview now uses the shooting date instead of the file date. - The list of supported archive formats is no longer hard coded, so you can for example add support for rar archives by installing kio_rar. - Zoom has been improved: you can now zoom to width or height, and a zoom combobox has been added to the application and KPart toolbars. - The slideshow now starts directly. Slideshow options like timing or fullscreen can be set from the configuration dialog. - Quite a few bugs have been fixed. Please note that the 1.4.x serie is the last serie for KDE3. There will probably be a 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 version fixing bugs, but work will now focus on porting Gwenview to KDE4. -- UVF - New Upstream Release https://launchpad.net/bugs/60997 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can you try this hint from the EmacsWiki? X11 Copy & Paste to/from Emacs: Emacs 21.2.1 & newer: (setq x-select-enable-clipboard t) See also http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/wlg/6162 which suggests (setq x-select-enable-clipboard t) ; as above (setq interprogram-paste-function 'x-cut-buffer-or-selection-value) For the record, none of these have allowed me to copy and paste between Emacs and Firefox/386 1.5.0.1 on Ubuntu/amd64. – EraEriksson Let us know if that fixes it. Public bug reported: I have Ubuntu_PowerPC_dapper (6.10.1), and I tried an install in the LiveCD mode, and wanted to see how the install would work, without actually installing over OS X. However, when I click "Cancel" before partitioning, I get a "Abort the installation?" dialog with "Cancel"/"Quit" buttons, but neither button responds. Nor does the X in the dialog. Thanks for reporting. I can confirm this bug (although only on a Debian machine now). However the PNG file for the icon indeed has transparent background, so this has something to do with the way scim uses the notification area. [Bug 60987] Loss of sound devices (/dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-23-386 HARDWARE - Tyan mother board Pentium PIII, 750 CPU Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! (driver - emu10k1) PROBLEM - (Symptoms positive and negative) Sound not operating. Alsa mixer and Gnome mixer both reporting that there is no sound device installed. No modules apparently installed. SOLUTION - Went to the Alsa web site, found my particular sound card, downloaded 3 packages and followed the directions on the page INCLUDING running ./snddevices. ReBoot. Sound now operating. CONCLUSION - The Ubuntu alsa packages, when installed, are not completing the operation of installing the sound devices (/dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi). This is fatal to the operation of sound on a GNU/Linux system. This is a particularly obnoxious problem considering that the sound was operating prior to the upgrade to this particular kernel (this also occurred on a clean install on a separate partition). Which particular package was responsible for the lack of sound devices I have no way of determining. However, since ./snddevices would not operate/could not be found until AFTER I had done ./compile ./make ./make install on the three packages, I have to conclude that something in the packages that Synaptic offered was lacking the appropriate programs/functions. TO REPRODUCE - On the above hardware, update to linux-image-2.6.15-23-386. Sound that had been working satisfactorily PRIOR TO update suddenly no longer exists. COMMENT - This is the second time that an updated image has destroyed the sound on my computer. I would have thought that, after the first time, it would have been fixed. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Loss of sound devices (/dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi) https://launchpad.net/bugs/60987 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
