[Bug 66397] Unable to copy audio cd-r

2006-10-16 Thread Christoph Lukas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

If I put an audio cd-r into my DVD drive, I can choose 'copy cd' from
the context menu but nautilus-cd-burner refuses to copy the cd-r with a
message like 'No medium available'.

On the terminal it complains:

** (nautilus-cd-burner:9393): WARNING **: No property
volume.disc.capacity on device with id
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part_1_size_702982144

If I run:

hal-set-property --udi

working fine.

I have set the language to RO during install and everything else works
OK; but the Romanian language is not present in the list of available
languages in apps like gedit, evolution, and others. After Installing
the the RO distionary from the aspell ftp site, it all works nicely.

That is by default yes. It however, does use the default search engine
set in 'konq -> settings -> web shortcuts -> default search engine'

Try setting the 'default search engine' to wikipedia, go to about:konqueror and

The only 'default search engine' behaving as expected with the 'keyword

[Bug 42390] Re: No audio capture--Intel ICH6 audio contr. (Realtek ALC260 mixer)

2006-10-16 Thread stepasha
Things have improved a bit in Edgy Beta, though I still don't have full
functionality. I still had to change the default settings to get sound
mixing to work seamlessly (like disabling ESD).

I can now record from my mic in sound-recorder and audacity. Under
Dapper I couldn't even choose an input source in Audacity. In Edgy Beta
I can choose 1 option in Audacity, "IGain". I don't know what that
means, but I am able to use that setting in audacity to record through
the mic. What I would really like to do but can't is record "system
sounds", by that I mean if I'm playing a stream or a video from the
internet, I'd like to be able to record the sound without having to use
a cord going from the headphone jack to the mic jack. Right now that's
the only way I can record such sounds.

So in short, most basic functionality is there, but it's still not
possible to record sound from anything but the mic.

I'm attaching the output (most) of the commands I mentioned in my
previous post. Let me know if I can be of more help.

In my case, this is apparently because HP broke SpeedStep in their F.05
rev of the NC6400 bios (reference:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7157). I can't revert to the
F.03 rev, because it doesn't support my CPU (T7200). However, there's
nothing that Ubuntu can do about this: HP has to release a new bios rev
to re-enable SpeedStep.

I don't know if this explanation applies to the original submitter, but
it's worth checking to see if SpeedStep works in Windows XP. On my
broken-bios setup, Control Panel > Power Options shows no SpeedStep tab.
To me, this proves that the issue is in the bios, not in the OS. If that
isn't the case for the original poster, I apologize for the distraction.

[Bug 57146] Re: [prism2.5] doesn't associate

2006-10-16 Thread Andrew Jorgensen
prism2.5 in this case refers to the Intersil Prism 2.5 chipset which is
actually very common in PCMCIA cards. This bug has nothing at all to do
with prism2_* (linux-wlan-ng) and everything to do with network-manager
not being able to cause a prism 2.5 chipset using the hostap drivers to
associate properly even though it worked when dapper was released and
doesn't work on edgy now. hostap and wpa-supplicant are also written by
the same folks. hostap was the default driver for wpa-supplicant for a
long long time.

I have another bug open which has a lot to do with prism2_cs (linux-
wlan-ng). You also commented on that bug so I imagine the 3 bugs I'm
subscribed to relating to prism2.5 chipsets and their drivers are just
getting totally mixed up in everyone's heads. This is completely
understandable. I have to be careful to make sure I'm commenting on the
right bug myself. No biggie.

I am perplexed though that you say that linux-wlan-ng doesn't support
pcmcia cards. You can do a search on packages.ubuntu.com for
prism2_cs.ko to see that it did exist in dapper.

[Bug 66503] logrotate runned by run-part becomes zombie

[Bug 22336] Re: laptop overheats when performing CPU intensive tasks.

2006-10-16 Thread DantePasquale
Hi All, I just got a new used laptop and decided to try a distro other
than Fedora Core which I've been using for years(redhat). I really like
ubuntu/debian more than FC. I'm supposed to be using Solaris 10 x86,
but that's a longer story. The problem is that the laptop keeps
overheating, just like all these others. I have an HP Pavilian dv1000.
I can't get the fan to even turn on! Luckily, I'm mainly using the
terminal for what I'm doing at work ( sunfire e25k VCS cluster), so if
it croaks, I'm really not out anything. What gives? I see hints all
over the place, but no solutions. Is there a summary of this issue in
one place? I've tried all the solutions listed here and on many other
sites to no avail. btw, my /proc/acpi/fan directory is empty. lm-
sensors doesn't find any sensors. Am I out of luck with this laptop?

[Bug 40450] Re: zip drive not working

2006-10-16 Thread Carthik Sharma
Closing this bug since Ernest says the drive works now.
This bug must have been overlooked by all for a long time, since there was no
"package" that this bug was ascribed to. I stumbled upon it while going through
a list of bugs. I'm extremely sorry it took so long to get back to you on this
bug! Thank you for your very prompt response. People like you make Ubuntu rock!

2006-10-16 Thread Ebbex
Yep. This wasn't an issue in dapper with the older g-p-m. It's all
g-p-m's fault. g-p-m sees both my batteries, and calculates the total
time and total charge, but shuts down on one empty battery.

Re: [Bug 40450] Re: zip drive not working

2006-10-16 Thread Ernest Pons-Worley
I am receiving this e-mail quite some time since I first reported the
problem. Since, I've upgraded to a newer release of Ubuntu. I no
longer have problems mounting and reading disks from the Zip drive
(but I have experienced some difficulty ejecting the disk once it's
dismounted). The drive is internal, and works perfectly under OS-9
on the same computer.

Thanks,
Ernest

has undergone so many changes that this is no longer applicable (new wifi
card, new battery, new drivers, etc...)
