[Bug 134252] Re: alsa mixer channels missing after upgrade to linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic with Intel / Nvidia HDA chip

2007-08-29 Thread JoergMechnich
Audio is working again for me too after some kernel(-module)-related
updates.

A side note for people having trouble with fglrx: after getting trouble
with the fglrx module delivered with the linux-restricted package I
compiled the newest 8.40.4 driver from source packages that one can
generate with the ati installer (also for gutsy now). Since then
everything is working fine again. Only thing to remember is that you
_have_ to run sudo depmod -a manually after installation of the module.

[Bug 123435] Re: xdg-user-dirs translations not used

2007-08-29 Thread Timo Jyrinki
As an update, I now did a fresh install of Ubuntu daily-live, in Finnish
language. However, I did not have network connection enabled during
installation (something very common since it's not encouraged anywere
in the installer), so I first did not have the Finnish language packs.

The xdg folders were created in English, and even after installing the
language support and logging out and in, the folders are still in
English. I think noticing the translations and the user's language is
part of what xdg-dirs-update xdg-dirs-update-gtk should do
automatically, since in many cases the language files are downloaded
only after installation.

For a new user, the folders are created in the correct language now.

[Bug 135752] Language support not enabled for the installation language

2007-08-29 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

I installed Gutsy's daily-live from yesterday, and selected Finnish as
the installation language. I did not remember to enable network
connection (something a newbie doesn't often know, either), and language
packs were not installed. After the installation, and after enabling the
network connection so that package lists are updated, I went to language
support. The language support should in this case suggest installing
support for the Default Language in the system (Finnish), but instead it
only suggests installing the rest of the English packages.

[Bug 112073] Re: Restore from sleep/hibernation no longer works - Regression since Feisty Beta - gdm hangs

2007-08-29 Thread Motin
Is it helpful at all to provide the relevant information using the
current Feisty kernel or should we directly try with the latest Gutsy
tribe kernel?

When does this data need to be submitted here in order for this bug to
be fixed in time for Gutsy (I don't expect any promises from anyone -
just a good guess to help maximize the possibility of a fix).

PS I believe it does match the criterias for a stable release update:

This bug seems to affect all HP Pavilion dv4000 as well as Dell Inspiron
6000 Ubuntu users, and a regression of perfectly working suspend
functionality = Severe regression in those users eyes! For these users,
there is a higher risk of losing data as they have to transport their
laptops powered on to not have to shut down all applications between
every computer move. This leads to increased risk for overheating and
hard drive failures. Not the ordinary type of data loss I guess, but
anyway...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

being marked as Won't Fix for this particular version of the kernel. You can

However, the issue that you reported is one that should be possible to test
with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy

[Bug 113859] Re: (graphics-related?) lockup in feisty

2007-08-29 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug does not meet the criteria for a stable release update and is
being marked as Won't Fix for this particular version of the kernel. You can
learn more about the stable release update process at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
However, the issue that you reported is one that should be possible to test
with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy
Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on
getting it fixed in the actively developed kernel. You can find out more about
the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
If you do decide to test with the development release of Ubuntu please comment
on this bug report and include at least the minimal information requested at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate
your help.

[Bug 135746] some problems in Gutsy Gibbon

2007-08-29 Thread chunchengch
Public bug reported:

1. sometimes Gutsy does not load my setting while booting, I have to
reboot to get it back.

2. there is no login/logout sound, while I can listen music and movie
normally.

3. the most odd thing is that I can create folder but I can not modify
the folder name, neither Chinese nor English.

4. Compiz Fusion can be installed from Synaptic and it works great, but
there is no Fusion-Icon package in the repository, I have to download
the deb file from ubuntu.org.cn to install.

[Bug 95162] Re: Apache2 Fails to install/start

2007-08-29 Thread Dan Butler
This is a rather easy fix - I don't know if it could be done as a post-
install script or something? Anyway, I fixed it with the following:

$ cd /etc/apache2/mods-enabled
$ for f in `ls ../mods-available` do
>sudo ln -s ../mods-available/$f $f
>done
$ sudo apache2 -k start

This is because even with authz_host loaded, there are more 'bugs' in
the conf file caused by other modules that are not loaded by default in
this version of the apache2 package for feisty. I didn't want to go
through them all so I just enabled every module. You might prefer to go
through them one by one until it stops panicking.

Re: [Bug 80470] Re: Qtstalker exits immediately when I try to display a graph.

2007-08-29 Thread CrawfordBest
Hmm ... 2000 individual stocks ? I guess just typing in the symbols
could take a while !

I thought stalker just added the latest date if you selected Quote.
History allows you to specify dates but I think that overwrites what you
already have. Does Auto History just append to what you already have ?

The safest way is to go to the hidden qtstalker directory and copy the
files under /data0/data/Stocks/Yahoo/US (or wherever you have them) to
another location. Then you can try out the options I just mentioned
without overwriting your only data. I have sometimes had to fetch data
from scratch, say on the DJIA back to 1928 plus lots of similar indexes,
and I just went away while it did its thing. The time was manageable.

Let me know if this helps.

I have found Very Little documentation out there and so had to figure
out all this myself.

[Bug 120611] Re: in evolution cannot move recursive events

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I've recreated something similar under gutsy. Here's what I did:
(1) create an event that recurs weekly forever
(2) move the 2nd instance to a different day, different time, and different
length of time
(3) change all instances (selecting one from the normal time) to be a different
time and length of time

Then you'll see that the special instance from #2 has a second copy back
on the original day, but at the time and length of time from #2.

But the nvidia-glx-new driver has just been updated to one that
_doesn't_ work better. The only reason we have it is because it's
required for geforce 8xxx cards. Other than that it's possibly the
worst driver nvidia has ever put out.

[Bug 80470] Re: Qtstalker exits immediately when I try to display a graph.

2007-08-29 Thread pica
Thanks Crawford. I found the files and removed them. Reloaded qtstalker
and it working OK again.

I'm now looking for a site or forum to find better ways of importing my
2000 stock data files. Ideally I would like to update these files
already in qtstalker without importing everytime but don't know how to
open the mime application/octet-stream that qtstalker use. Any
suggestions where I should seek this information?

It looks like building 32-bit wine on amd64 will be possible soon, if it's not

Also, these links should be relevant.

A sync request should probably be placed for when wine-0.9.42 packages

[Bug 132349] Re: external usb disks no longer mount in gutsy

2007-08-29 Thread Rocko
I can consistently break automounting in tribe5 (although rebooting the
PC fixes it):

1. I Run gparted.

2. I tell it to unmount the external 120 GB USB drive. It does so (and
then crashes when rescanning devices).

3. I re-run gparted and tell it to format the external drive to FAT32.
It does so (and then crashes when rescanning devices).

Now neither of my external drives will automount until I reboot the PC.
I can still manually mount them with the sudo mount command, though.

[Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive

2007-08-29 Thread Rocko
Re my previous comment, after rebooting, my drives are auto-mounting
again, and now I can confirm a difference in operation between
automounting and manually mounting the drive:

a) If the drive automounts, gnome-volume-manager doesn't spend ages
doing something with it until I try to open it in nautilus. Then gnome-
volume-manager gets busy and nautilus freezes until it has finished.

b) If I manually mount the drive with sudo mount, gnome-volume-manager
immediately spends ages doing something with the drive. If I try to open
the drive in nautilus during this time, it freezes until gnome-volume-
manager is finished, but if I wait until gnome-volume-manager is
finished before opening nautilus on the drive, nautilus shows the
contents immediately.

This is on a freshly formatted drive. (gparted reports that 55.91 MB out
of 111.79 GB are used.)

[Bug 60501] Re: Exchange fails to allow authentication

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
This bug report is being marked as "Fix Released" since nobody has
reported seeing the problems in current releases.

I believe that public folders are now only scanned if subscribed to.
I'm not 100% sure, but in my folders list, I don't even see public
folders that I'm not subscribed to.

As for the authentication issues, I had run into some similar issues a
while back, possibly in edgy as well. But those seem to have gone away

Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Feel free to submit any future bugs you may find.

crash which start with the wireless ones below then continue with a
series of consequtive apic errors on cpu until freeze. Here is a sample
of the lines:

[Bug 134726] Re: MythTV 0.20.2 SRU; changeset_r12492

2007-08-29 Thread Karl Hegbloom
Perhaps there are options to 'unzip' that ask it for only the .png
files?

I think that the first action you should take re changeset_r12492 is to
begin lobbying the MythTV maintainers to apply the patch to the 0.20.2
branch.

How will you include .png files in the package? They can't be handled
by 'diff'. Have you thought of porting to 'cdbs' and reorganizing the
source package so that it's a Debian native package and contains .tar.gz
of the upstream source distribution as well as the .zip containing the
updated .png images. 'cdbs' has good support for dpatch.

Would you like any help with that? It might be a fun diversion.

[Bug 134726] Re: MythTV 0.20.2 SRU

2007-08-29 Thread Karl Hegbloom
I've very recently moved my workstation up to Gutsy Gibbon, in pursuit
of a precompiled package for this new version of MythTV. It seems to be
working fine, except that the bug where it doesn't put the edit bars in
the right place after you edit and load the commercial cuts. That only
happens if you have overscan set in the settings, under TV Settings,
Playback.

There is a changeset in SVN that fixes the bug. I've attached it for
your convenience. It was downloaded from the MythTV SVN web, and is
changeset r12492.

  http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/

  http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/12492/trunk

I have not tried to apply this patch to the MythTV 0.20.2 sources, but
did try it with the last version, and it worked great. The edit bars
now line up right above the edges of the red regions showing where
sections are cut out. Without the patch, if you have TV playback
overscan set to non-zero, the edit bars are positioned as if the video
has not been scaled for the overscan. They don't line up right.

[Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive

2007-08-29 Thread Rocko
I tried emptying the vfat drive completely of all files (including
trash), and it still experienced the delay in first opening nautilus.

I tried reformatting the drive using gparted (which incidentally crashed
when it went to rescan the drives afterwards, and now my external drives
no longer automount), and there is still the delay in first opening
nautilus.

The behaviour does seem slightly different from before, though. Now when
I mount the drive manually, its light flickers for a while during which
gnome-volume-manager and usb-storage consume the most CPU cycles (4-5%).
Also during this time, umount reports that the device is busy. gnomevfs-
ls still works at normal speed during this time.

When all this finishes, if I run nautilus on the directory, it appears
pretty much instantly. So now it seems there is some automated process
running when the drive is mounted instead of when nautilus first tries
to access it, but nautilus is still freezing waiting for this process to
complete.

The only software difference I can see is that hal is now at
0.5.9.1-1ubuntu3 instead of ubuntu2 and nautilus is 1:2.19.90-0ubuntu1
instead of .91-0ubuntu1.

I checked again that this delay isn't happening on my external ext3
drives.

[Bug 135736] Re: Serious performance regression from recent update from 2.0.1 to 3.0

2007-08-29 Thread Alex Jones
Also to note that version 3.0 of python-opengl is alpha. I really think
we should revert to stable 2.0.1 for Gutsy. (2.0.2 is latest stable I
think, but it was never packaged according to the debian changelog.)

[Bug 61857] Re: Crashed whilst typing new recipient

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
This seems to be much improved with the latest gutsy updates. I can
still get it to crash, but the crash is a bit different. See bug
135336, which is "evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in
giop_recv_buffer_get()". Note that that's in evolution, not evolution-
exchange.

I now have to type a lot more addresses to get it to crash. And as for
address books, I only need the GAL enabled, with or without others.
Without the GAL, it doesn't happen.

[Bug 116326] Re: No audio INTEL HD audio - Realtek ALC268 codec - Toshiba A205-S4577

2007-08-29 Thread Mahdi
Confirmed on a Toshiba Satellite A205 S4797 too...
venky80's procedure makes sound work, but I can't get Romano's patch to apply
on those files =/
so, sound's ok thanks to Chris, Brian and venky80 (for the howto), but my mic
still doesnt work

that great improvement though! Tkz dudes! These changes MUST to go
upstream, since this codec seems to be pretty popular :D

[Bug 123548] Re: lcd brightness down doesn't work when gpm running (t60)

2007-08-29 Thread David MacKinnon
This is _not_ an exact duplicate of #81407, and by marking is as
duplicate, all the logs here are hidden, the other bug has not been
updated in months.

As of g-p-m 2.19.6-0ubuntu2 brightness keys are now (kind of) working on
the X60, but the OSD doesn't always display/update. Also, entering g-p-m
settings resets the brightness to a bit below half way, which is really
odd. Haven't tested yet on the T60p
