[Bug 576646] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 occasionally hangs for a couple of seconds
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Every now and then my system sporadically hangs for 2-3 seconds. [Bug 576647] [NEW] Please update Cairo-Dock with the following patches
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cairo-dock-plug-ins We have found and corrected 4 critical bugs in the package Cairo-Dock-plug-ins. Here is a short summary: * LP: #575178 (MP: fixed a double-free on the "cover-dir" variable of the banshee backend) * LP: #523447 (MP: fixed a memory buffer overflow when getting the cover if the artist or album has chinese/russian characters) * CD Forum: Switcher : fixed a division by 0 in the case he number of desktop is null (can occur if the dock is launched before the WM) * CD Forum: Mail : allow the dock to isolate the applet if it crashes All these bugs are critical since they cause the application to crash, and they involve memory corruption or memory overflow. +1 . the bug description itself never mentioned anything about developer tools... for us that are already reading this bug report we need to influence (your favorite electronic shop here) to sell ubuntu certified desktops, laptops, and mids. This cannot be resolved by develops alone. On May 6, 2010 2:02 PM, "Martin Wildam" wrote: On Wed, May 5, 2010 at 21:18, Claudiu Vlad wrote: > You really need to make... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it without more information. Please run the following command which will attach necessary information: apport-collect 576511 Bear in mind that when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non- Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. If you cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options): First run the following commands: 1) uname -a > uname-a.log 2) dmesg > dmesg.log 3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log 4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in the kernel. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Bug 576642] [NEW] XScreensaver causes Lubuntu 10.04 LTS to hang in LiveCD mode using sun VirtualBox
Public bug reported: When running the latest build as of 06.05.2010 (Lubuntu 10.04 LTS) using Sun VirtualBox on Xubuntu 8.04 LTS the following problem occoured. After a few minutes inactivity the screensaver started which I interrupted quickly. When opening the xscreensaver configuration from the Applications panel a window was drawn with the list of available screensavers on the left and an live view of the current selected screensaver on the right (as usual). The problem however was, that after a few seconds the VM became totally busy when displaying the current screensaver (default, with yellow snowflakes or something). I was even unable to close the xscreensaver config window or choose the option »no screensaver« in the upper left corner. As a result I had to switch to tty1 on my host machine and sigterm (15) the Sun VirtualBox process instance. For clarification I actually ran xscreensavers on Xubuntu 10.04 LTS in the past when testing ISO (qa.ubuntu.com) and my computer is also fast enough (3100 MIPS (AMD K7/M10 @ 1,53Ghz)). As a temporary fix I recommend the packagers/remasterers at the Lubuntu team to disable screensavers by default and select either none or »blank screen« as default. Besides the aforementioned implications this behavior would also better fit to a less resource consuming distribution. Screensavers cause much problems and there is also blueprint on Lauchpad regarding that matter [L1]. [L1] https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/screensaver-review Note: I ask the Lubuntu team to provide MD5/SHA1 sums at theri publicaly available download repositories. Unfortunately I was unable to confirm the image integrity with MD5, but the LiveCD integrity check returned an error in one file. ** Affects: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: iso-testing -- XScreensaver causes Lubuntu 10.04 LTS to hang in LiveCD mode using sun VirtualBox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576642 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 439594] Re: X crashes while upgrading fglrx from Jaunty to Karmic using update-manager
I upgraded my primary system without seeing this particular issue, I don't rember if the screensaver started during the install or not. Anyway, the X server didn't crash during the installation. The fact that I didn't have any graphics after the reboot into Lucid is a different story (and unrelated to this bug). I'm afraid I'm not willing to do any more testing since this would require me to make another physical installation (a VM doesn't cut it for obvious reasons) of Karmic and go through the trouble of upgrading again (and fixing the X configuration breakage, again). -- X crashes while upgrading fglrx from Jaunty to Karmic using update-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 522509] Re: [FFE] tftpd-hpa doesn't start on boot
BTW, I'm running tftp-hpa 5.0-11ubuntu2, which is current for Lucid. This bug seems to depend on the order of network interface plumbing, and probably expresses more frequently if one interface is configured by DHCP or is otherwise slow. My guess is that this bug does not express on computers with one ethernet interface. Attached is a /etc/init/tftpd-hpa variant that reliably starts in.tftpd on my computer. It likely works because the default binding is 0.0.0.0 and the loopback interface is quickly available. [Bug 561789] Re: Freeze with KMS enabled on Radeon RV350
Mine is working fine. It should be something about my specific hardware Acer Travelmate 3201 XMi and with IRQ requests My guess is that working on AGP can't specify an IRQ for the radeon driver (which is needed on kms support (?) ) Again this is a guess from the knowledge i have and the errors 1-15 which match the IRQ on motherboards available. So working as pci by adding the "options radeon agpmode=-1" option provide the nessesary IRQ for the driver. @moriddin: As for the issue about the 10min I cannot help I have an uptime of days now :) Although I have to add I am not running many 3D accelaration software. Only some effect from compiz and video mostly because I have a hardware error with artifacts as well (I say it's hardware because I find it in vesa driver also and in windows). So I don't push my luck ;) Try get the logs from a livecd after laptop stuck. PS: My suspend is not working but I don't think it will work ever, so I cannot test if driver is loaded correctly after suspend. When I press the suspend the pc looks like is closing down only to prompt me for password as like is it just opened from suspend. I might check it sometime laters, not my priority now. -- Freeze with KMS enabled on Radeon RV350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574707] Re: Could not install 'libvirt-bin' subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Could not install 'libvirt-bin' subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 185000] Re: Can't log in wihout failsafe terminal
There is still faulty bash code in 10.04 /etc/profile and /etc/autopackage/paths-bash /etc/profile has: [[ -f "/etc/autopackage/paths-bash" ]] && . "/etc/autopackage/paths- bash" That does not cause X to fail because it wont even try to start /etc/autopackage/paths-bash and just continues executing /etc/profile which is then allowed to finished successfully. That line should be changed to (be more compatible with any shell): if test -f "/etc/autopackage/paths-bash"; then . "/etc/autopackage /paths-bash"; fi /etc/autopackage/paths-bash has: function __autopackage_addBashPath { local name=$1 local path=$2 local append=$3 local kind local tmp local array declare -a array local IFS=':' array=(${!name}); for DIR in "${arr...@]}"; do if [[ "$DIR" = "$path" ]]; then return 0 fi done if [[ "${!name}" = "" ]]; then eval "export $name=\"$path\"" elif $append; then eval "export $name=\"$path:\$$name\"" else eval "export $name=\"\$$name:$path\"" fi return 0 } Well obviously there is stuff in there which won't work with sh or bash... Both these file syntax errors now only produce a few errors in the .xsession-error log now but the session runs without problems so I guess it's a minor issue. [Bug 552221] Re: Volume control icon not present after upgrade to Lucid final
Have the same problem. When I was on 9.10 volume control applet was present on panel. I'm sure I have not removed it manually. After upgrading to 10.04 it disappeared from panel and cannot be found both in system->startup and "rightclick->add to panel". I'm not experienced linux user, but for me it looks like volum control applet was deinstalled while updating and now there is nothing of similar functionality installed. -- Volume control icon not present after upgrade to Lucid final https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/552221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just take a look at what Microsoft did. Visual Studio is a big fat thing and IDE features of NetBeans for example are way better IMHO. Only advantage is the visual GUI editor for web applications. [Bug 256429] Re: Intrepid regression: carriage-return required after finger scan
Thanks Martin. The packages work. For some reason they wouldn't install using APT, so I downloaded them and used dpkg to install them. APT always came back and told me I had the latest version. I suspect it's because I used to have Jon's PPA and his version number is higher than yours, but that's just a theory. -- Intrepid regression: carriage-return required after finger scan https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
