I have grub-pc version 1.98-1ubuntu9 installed and this is still a problem (on multiple servers). It seems that grub-pc/install_devices is set to the empty set. This fixes it for me, without changing anything on systems that are not affected: if sudo debconf-show grub-pc | grep -q "install_devices:$" ; then echo SET grub-pc/install_devices `mount | grep "on / " | cut -d' ' -f1 | sed "s|[0-9]\+$||"` | sudo debconf-communicate && sudo dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive grub-pc ; fi TO THOSE LOOKING FOR A MAGICAL FIX: THIS COMMAND IS ONLY SAFE IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL GRUB ON THE DEVICE THAT HOLDS THE PARTITION FOR / AND EVEN THEN, IT MAY BE UNSAFE IN VARIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. [Bug 691425] [NEW] Samsung N210i915/Intel N10/:Screen stays black after resume + setting brightness won't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image On a fresh install of Ubuntu my new Samsung N210 plus netbook worked like magic with one exception: If I close the lid it suspends or hibernates and if I open the lid again it is up in half a second - but the screen stays black. Found a blog that told to try a setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b= (actually even if the writer of this blog did own the same netbook his graphics card was at a different pciid; Brightness ranges between 00 (off) and ff (full brightness). And since this change worked I added a file named /etc/pm/sleep.d/99_LightsOn with the following contents: #!/bin/sh case "$1" in resume|thaw) /usr/bin/setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=50 ;; esac which resolved the case for me. Since setting the brightness by the brightness keys won't work either and booting with the "noapic" or the "nolapic" option will lead to a complete black screen with backlight off, too, I assume it is a kernel bug. But feel free to reassign at will. [Bug 688986] Re: --invisible/--autostart/--autoclose do not appear to be working
Those are the commands I was trying that didn't work though - soundkonverter would instead quit almost immediately without actually doing anything. That's why I reverted to the semi-automated approach of clicking manually through the GUI buttons - if I didn't, the conversion never even started (I was using 'ps' as a quick hack to check when the process was terminating). [Bug 194155] Re: mc and gnome-terminal, F10 key conflict
For the benefit of anyone who finds this looking for advice on getting Gnome to pass function keys to an application: another solution is to use the mouse and click on the F10 label. This works in HTOP, for example. It also helps to use the built in help -- e.g., HTOP accepts "q" as a substitute for F10 generally -- but it's had to RTFM using Gnome terminal, because Gnome hijacks F1, too, and brings up a system help window. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn that interception off. Even if the Keyboard Shortcut for desktop help is changed from "help" (btw, my keyboard doesn't have a "help" key; does yours?), the terminal application still intercepts F1. I would file the F1/F10 issue as a partly-addressed design problem w/ Gnome Terminal, rather than as a bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194155 Title: mc and gnome-terminal, F10 key conflict -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
