[Bug 492034] Re: [STAGING] realtek rtl8192su chipset based USB wireless devices fail to work

2010-12-22 Thread Nico Zanferrari
Same problem for me.

* Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit, kernel 2.6.35-24
* USB adapter from EMTEC, ID 0bda:8172 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8191S
WLAN Adapter

The solution of downloading a file from launcpadlibrarian.net suggested
by logari81 worked like a charm! Thanks a lot!

BTW: you need to 'sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU' before copying something
inside ;-)

[Bug 692163] Re: package grub-pc 1.98-1ubuntu9 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-12-22 Thread BlackDex
I had the same problem and solved it as following.

$ sudo aptitude purge grub-pc.

After that i did an install again

$ sudo aptitude install grub-pc

And the message went away.
Probably an error in the install scripts that arn't getting overwritten or
something.

[Bug 693699] [NEW] version numbers may conflict with each other

2010-12-22 Thread Book 'em Dano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xubuntu-docs

There are pending updates for xubuntu-docs in the lucid, maverick and
natty series, and I foresee that there may be some version number
conflicts. The current version of the docs in lucid is 9.10.1, and I
assume the next update for them would result in the version number
changing to 9.10.2, which is already the version number for the docs in
maverick (and natty).

Is it possible to have the version numbers correspond to the
distribution release that they are intended for, i.e. xubuntu-docs 11.04
for Xubuntu 11.04, - mimic the numbering scheme of ubuntu-docs and
kubuntu-docs?

[Bug 333624] Re: malloc_init deadlock (mozilla jemalloc)

2010-12-22 Thread Mikko Ohtamaa
I see this behavior on 8.04 server and with Varnish.

Varnish uses jemalloc. After recent updates, Varnish would not start any
longer. I turns out to be /proc/cpuinfo deadlock in jemalloc.

I am not sure what has changed on the server, but I assume it is related
to recent stable updates.

[Bug 565685] Re: [Asus K50IJ] Lucid Lynx - No automute (Headphone jack does not disable speakers on laptop)

2010-12-22 Thread VandoCle
I have a K50IJ as well.

Speakers work fine, but when I plug the headphones in, sounds gets
muted, when I bring the volume back up, it plays on both the speakers
and headphones.

Had the same problem no matter what distro I tried.

But

Here is what is interesting, I tried a live USB of Google Chrome OS, I
do not have this problem at all!!!

I know nothing of programming, and am really a newbie at linux, but it
would seem to me, that someone who does know about it, could simply
review the settings on Chrome OS and replicate that onto Ubuntu, but I
could be wrong, someone please let me know.

[Bug 622168] Re: webcam "device initialization failed" in lucid (needs high-speed USB 2.0 port) but has worked in past on lucid

2010-12-22 Thread Kim Tyler
Hey guys, we're still waiting for a solution out here. Expiring it
because nobody there is doing anything about it would seem to be a bit
wrong.

The problem still exist with lucid and maverick.

I have tried it with a backport linux-
image-2.6.37-020637rc2-generic_2.6.37-020637rc2.201011160905_amd64.deb
and others, and the problem still exists with those kernels.

I couldn't reset the tag 'needs-upstream-testing'. (perhaps I need
lessons)

Is anyone doing anything with this bug, or do the users not bother. (the
option is to either go the windows 7, or to buy another PC, neither of
which is appealing to me, and doesn't fit with the ethos that Linux can
run on most hardware without problems)

Merry Xmas and happy new year

[Bug 692860] Re: sync matchbox-window-manager 1.2-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-12-22 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Hello Mahyuddin

What about these changes?

- Add interpreter to prerm (LP: #272450)

- Merge in lots of stuff from Maemo and upstream, enable window
animations.

Why do you think they can be dropped?

and can you please provide a buildlog of the debian package compiling
well in updated natty chroot?

and as said in the earlier bug (which I am copy-pasting here)

you should *never* subscribe ubuntu archive admins on yourselves when
you are filing a sync request it will be done by the sponsors (MOTU in
case of universe, multiverse and core-dev in case of main or restricted)
upon ACK of the sync request

cf: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SyncRequestProcess

Marking as incomplete due to pending further investigation as to
detailed explanation of why the package can be synced

regards

PS: anyone please unsubscribe ubuntu archive for now

kind regards

[Bug 693693] [NEW] Should *not* be possible to quit SC while an action is In-Progress

2010-12-22 Thread Vish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Steps to reproduce:
1: Install/Remove an application from software center
2: While the action is still "In-Progress" quit Software Center
3: Software center happily quits.

What happened was: I was installing an application and while it was
taking time to download and install, i was browsing SC. After a while i
forgot about the installation and just quit SC. On quitting I realized
that i was installing an app and the app was not in the applications
menu. When I opened SC again it showed the installation still as "In-
Progress" (installation had not completed).

While it is neat that SC did not quit installation and apt-daemon kept running,
this is a unique behavior with SC. In all other applications all related
processes quit once the main app quits. or atleast they inform that the app is
still performing an action.
And it is odd that starting an application shows as something already
"In-progress"

What should happen is either:
- SC mentions that there is an action in-progress and prevent SC from quitting
- SC mentions that there is an action in-progress and ask confirmation to
switch to installation/removal in the background.
- or atleast switch to a smaller in-progress window, apt-daemon's.

the Login option and use the classic Ubuntu Desktop. I use this with my

[Bug 689929] Re: Update managers Apply Settings window doesn't trigger unity's smarthide

2010-12-22 Thread Kyle Clarke
These two windows are relatively small windows and thus don't actually
require the space created by hiding the launcher.

The update window described can't even be maximised and the Ubuntu One
window probably shouldn't be able to be maximised (it's really ugly, and
nothing).

To have some windows not trigger "intelihide" makes it seem more
"intellegent" in my books.

[Bug 688272] Re: Please add module-raop-discover and module-zeroconf-discover to default.pa

2010-12-22 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Even though the original config fragment I proposed above should work,
it seems that under specific circumstances, on some of my test hardware,
loading the modules in that order fails. Additionally, unless I'm
mistaken, it seems tat RAOP depends upon Zeroconf, so perhaps the
following config segment would be safer:

.ifexists module-zeroconf-discover.so
.nofail
load-module module-zeroconf-discover
.fail

.ifexists module-raop-discover.so

2010-12-22 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption.
So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If
this does resolve your bug please set its status to Invalid. Thanks in
advance!

It happens to me still in current Ubuntu which has geeqie version

Can you try again with a folder of images that are larger than your
monitor size and with the zoom beginning at 1:1. Every time I hit "page
up" or "page down" the image size wanders down. It gets smaller than a
postage stamp eventually. A 1 will bring it back up.

I noticed that they do actually have a "No thanks." thing you can click
HIDDEN in the upper right hand corner. And it does *not* replace
":donations.donatedi0e" with ":donations.donatedi1e" in the config file
to end the nagging.

So I'm proposing disabling the nagging with a patch similar to what
Adrian Perez wrote over a year ago until they have an option just as
obvious as the others along the lines of "I don't ever want to donate."
which permanently disables the nagging.

Yup, it's still there. 1.2 years later and they still haven't added

Can we now disable that damn thing until they add that option they said

Just finally - While can demonstrate here identically of 2 different but not

If valid, based on the progression so far as seen here, there doesn't seem any
reason to take action, maybe better to wait for next set of compiz update(s)
(unless something is apparent, maybe in relationship to the window dec.

Re: [Bug 609545] Re: Fails to download videos

And it is fixed again in Debian unstable. Version 2010.12.09-1 in the
Debian repository fixes this problem.

Unfortunately, I can't upload a fix to Ubuntu for the packages that I
maintain in Debian.

If I could, then things would be much smoother, as I usually upload a
new package in one or two days of an upstream new release (and, in
fact, I am closely following upstream, also proposing some patches and
so on).

Of course, given the volatile nature of youtube-dl, some measures to
handle the frequent fixes should be taken. In the mean time, I may
offer one package in a PPA, if that's desired.

Regards,

2010-12-22 Thread Suyash Mohan
@bugbot - since i am new to bugs.launchpad.net, I am not friendly with
terms used here.

Does "affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-intel
(Ubuntu) " mean I have to update my xserver-xorg-video-intel.

Whatever I did the following
removed the xserver-xorg-video-intel package
using sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-intel
and then downloaded the new package from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel
and installed it
than reconfigured xorg using Xorg -configure
and copied it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

But nothing happened my problem is still tere.

Public bug reported:
