[Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk

2012-11-21 Thread Yoav Weiss
I'm aware of the third party PPA workaround, but:
a) I'm not really sure it can be trusted (I don't know Alex Shkop, sorry)
b) I'm certain most people install Chromium from Canonical's repositories
rather than PPA (Official or non-official). These people browse the Web with
browsers that have known security vulnerabilities.

I believe the best way would be to treat chromium-browser updates as
security updates (which they are), and push them to LTS releases, just
like FireFox.

[Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk

2012-11-21 Thread Phill Whiteside
The PPA, as I stated is being re-started by a Canonical guy. It will
hopefully be all up and running by the end of this month. Chromium
updates already have an exception to allow them to be back ported. The
issue is that there was no one doing the 'official' updates. This is
going to be resolved. I do know Alex, and he did offer to assist in the
updating of Chromium. There was talk of using the script he uses, but
the task has been allocated to the Canonical guy. As it also states in
the link, it is in 'workaround' for that reason and will be marked as
"no longer used" when there is an 'official' update route. Until then,
to get updates that ppa can be used, else people will be running an old
version of Chromium.

[Bug 1081631] [NEW] GNOME-Keyring endlessly prompts for password after I buy something from USC

2012-11-21 Thread Brendan Griffin
Public bug reported:

A MAJOR problem with Ubuntu is the endless prompts that GNOME-keyring
gives the user if the user creates an account (e.g., buys something,
registers to write reviews in USC, etc) in Ubuntu Software Center. Once
user creates an account in USC for whatever reason, the user will be
CONSTANTLY harrassed with prompts from the GNOME-keyring to login
whenever user is using Ubuntu.

This is so annoying! It is so annoying I had to resort to reinstalling
the OS to get it to stop. Unfortunately, this means to keep the prompts
from reappearing, I am unable to login or create any account in USC.
This also means I cannot purchase software from USC because then the
prompts will start again.

So that users can buy software in USC , please fix the GNOME-keyring so
it doesn't needlessly prompt for password. If the user needs to login
for something, it should be a user initiated action. That is the user is
going to do something that requires a login, so the user manually logs
in. There should be no background stuff happening that causes the
keyring to put up a prompt. I do not have UbuntuOne active or anything
like that. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the keyring to
be prompting to be unlocked. This is a MAJOR bug.

I've attached a PNG showing what the prompt looks like.

[Bug 1074779] Re: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel

2012-11-21 Thread madbiologist
Yes, I've heard about that too. But it might be a different bug. As
Dave said in comment #2, alusa's BootDmesg.txt shows that the system is
trying, but failing, to use the nouveau driver for the NVIDIA
Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 540M] [10de:0df4] (rev a1) (prog-if 00
[VGA controller]). I don't know if modprobing the kernel with a
blacklist is enough to stop the xserver from trying to support the
hybrid graphics. If alusa can post another set of logs (by running
apport-collect 1074779) after booting with the nouveau driver
blacklisted as described in comment #2 that will hopefully help to
clarify things.

Also alusa has SandyBridge Intel graphics (third generation Core
i3/i5/i7), not Intel 915GM or Intel 945G so if this bug does turn out to
be in the Intel driver it's still likely to be a different bug.

[Bug 1081636] [NEW] External mouse freezes when using the keyboard

2012-11-21 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with a touchpad and an external mouse. External mouse
motion is ignored whenever a keyboard button is held down. This makes
most computer games unplayable because you can't move and turn at the
same time.

The touchpad is not ignored and keeps working perfectly when a key is
held down.

Toggling "Disable touchpad while typing" in system settings does not
have any effect.

[Bug 1081323] Re: /bin/sh illegal option -p when using pam_namespace.so

2012-11-21 Thread Scott Duckworth
The attached patch removes the -p option from the shebang line of
/etc/security/namespace.init and fixes this bug. The effect of the -p
option with bash is to not reset the effective UID to match the real UID
if they are different, but this is the default behavior if bash is
invoked as /bin/sh. Similarly, this is also the default if dash is
invoked as /bin/sh. So the -p option is extraneous in the first place
and causes warnings if dash is being used for /bin/sh.

[Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk

2012-11-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. We are working on a method to
keep this package up to date for stable Ubuntu releases so it doesn't
lag behind upstream as it has been. Updates should be provided soon.

Hi Joseph. Sadly, the v3.5-rc3-quantal kernel exhibits the same hanging

reboots. Sure smells like a race condition.

[Bug 1081645] [NEW] Oneiric update to 3.0.52 stable release

2012-11-21 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally
backported form of that patch. The 3.0.52 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches are in the 3.0.52 stable release:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Oneiric)

[Bug 1081644] [NEW] imagej will not display images

2012-11-21 Thread eldad
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10

imagej:
  Installed: 1.47a-1

  Version table:
 *** 1.47a-1 0
500 http://il.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/universe amd64 Packages

As in the summary - imagej simply will not display images.
It does not report or output any errors.
It does not matter whether I start from the gui or the terminal
( "imagej tst.png" or "imagej -p 1 tst.png")
There is no window opening.

I do not know how to begin debugging (I tried purging all jre packages
and reinstall imagej, with no change in the outcome).

[Bug 1081144] Re: [lucid] ubuntuone-preferences: SSL hostname validation failed

2012-11-21 Thread Roman Yepishev
oauth_urls which uses the new urls and can be used as a workaound for
the issue.

** Description changed:

+ New lucid accounts cannot register.
+
At the moment ubuntuone-preferences shows an error message:

  Authorization Error
[Errno socket error] SSL hostname validation failed

This is happening because ubuntuone.com (which is referenced from lucid
clients) has subject field of SSL certificate set to *.ubuntuone.com and
the monkey-patched SSL verification checks for subject field only.

ubuntuone.com is present in subjectAltName but it is not being checked.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+ Replace /etc/xdg/ubuntuone/oauth_urls
