[Bug 1153763] Re: Please sync Ecere SDK 0.44.06 to fix amd64/PowerPC FTBFS

2013-03-27 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Version 0.44.06 fixes the PowerPC FTBFS introduced in 0.44.05, and a few
other bugs.

The Debian build with new packaging can be found at
http://mentors.debian.net/package/ecere-sdk .

Alternatively, original source is found at
https://github.com/ecere/sdk/archive/0.44.06.tar.gz
And Debian packaging at: https://github.com/ecere/sdk/archive/0.44.06-1.tar.gz

Relevant part of the changelog:

ecere-sdk (0.44.06-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fixed bugs causing build to fail on PowerPC
  * Fixed cross-bitness compiling issues
  * Fixed UTF8 text processing issues
  * Fixed serialization/unserialization of Map container objects
  * Fixed ListBox row moving bug
  * Fixed ColorPicker in IDE to be consistent with other dialogs
  * Enabled holding up/down buttons down to reorder directories
in compiler settings
  * Relying on giflib rather than bundled libungif, taking out deps folder
for Debian packages (Resolves Debian #703444)

Successful build on Raring PPA with version matching 0.44.06:

Thanks!

[Bug 1104627] Re: Secure boot forbids loading module from (path)/boot/grub/gettext.mod

2013-03-27 Thread steven_shiau
I created an Ubuntu 12.04 live USB, with the secure boot option on in my uEFI
BIOS, and put the Linux Foundation Secure Boot System
http://blog.hansenpartnership.com/linux-foundation-secure-boot-system-released/
on the USB stick. Booting the machine from USB stick, I can see the grub2 boot
menu, however, after pressing enter to continue, it gave me this error:
--
error: Secure Boot forbids loading mode from
/EFI/boot//x86-64-efi/linuxefi.mod
error: you need to load the kernel first
--
I believe this is due to this patch
(http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/grub2.git/tree/grub-2.00-no-insmod-on-sb.patch)
was applied in the package grub2 (2.00-7ubuntu11).
Any workaround I can let the boot continue?
Thanks.

Steven.

[Bug 77980] Re: mtop failed to install (wrong/no password)

2013-03-27 Thread rob cain
OK - i just uninstalled mtop altogether using:

apt-get purge mtop

 - complained a bit but seems to have worked and nothing appears broken
as a result (so far).

installed mytop instead - which works (& uses a password protected mysql
user id!). all other apt-get install's now seem to work ok as well,
including apt-get install fail2ban - which mtop was breaking before.

hope this helps someone.

[Bug 1161212] [NEW] [regression] unityshell makes compiz wake up 190 times per second on an idle desktop

2013-03-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

After I have opened and closed the dash, compiz (unityshell plugin) gets
stuck in a loop and generates 190 wakeups/sec according to powertop:

Summary: 277.9 wakeups/second, 0.1 GPU ops/seconds, 0.0 VFS ops/sec and
4.1% CPU use

Usage Events/sCategory Description
 1959 rpm Device Laptop fan
 18.1 ms/s 190.0Processcompiz
100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D3: Intel
100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D0:

This does not happen if I unload the unityshell plugin. Without Unity, compiz
idles nicely.

(empathy:3786): telepathy-WARNING **: tpf-persona.vala:841: Failed to parse new
birthday string '1/01/1981'
alex@umbrella:~$

Is it a problem to parse these date strings? Seems it would be clear.
The first one:

11.06.1981 is standard form of date in Russia. (day.month.year)

The second is American one:

1/01/1981 ( month/day/year ).

As a programmer, I understand we are expected another date format here,
but why just don't parse it properly in case of exception occured?

If it already parsed properly may be its not usefull to print out this
warning.

[Bug 77980] Re: mtop failed to install (wrong/no password)

2013-03-27 Thread rob cain
Please can someone give me at leaast a work around for this problem.

I am currently lumbered with Ubuntu 10.04 by my ISP (& cannot upgrade to
12.04 without completely redepolying my server) - and this issue is
preventing me installing ANY packages it seems. ie. renders whole server
pretty useless.

I have tried workarounds as suggested here -
http://www.pkdavies.co.uk/66-mtop-access-denied-for-user-root.html - and
elsewhere - creating mysql root user with (temporarily) NO password and
limted privileges (PROCESS only).

But, when i run:

apt-get install mtop

it says now:

...
Setting up mtop (0.6.6-1.3) ...
ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' to database
'mysql'
ERROR 1044 (42000) at line 2: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' to
database 'mysql'
dpkg: error processing mtop (--configure):
...

(whereas previously it was saying:
...
Setting up mtop (0.6.6-1.3) ...
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:
NO)
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:
NO)
dpkg: error processing mtop (--configure):
...
)

 - does this mean:
a) i also have to create a (dummy) database named 'mysql' (as well as 'root'
user)?
b) i have to set mysql root password to NULL EVERY time i want to use apt-get?

 - this all looks as if its getting pretty diabolical to even attempt a
work around in this way.

(My original objective was simply to install fail2ban in order to thwart
aggressive brute-force attacks brning my server down - and that failing
install has led in turn to this can of worms).

My (customer) system is rendered useless as it is.

Please could someone give me some guidance here as to the best way to
get over this problem?

[Bug 1160847] Re: please add an option to inhibit gvfs mtp mounts

2013-03-27 Thread Philip Langdale
The MTP monitor in gvfs looks for usb devices with the IS_MTP flag set
in the udev info. This is controlled by the 69-libmtp.rules file, so if
Ubuntu Touch devices shouldn't be identified as having MTP, then the
appropriate change should be made to the rules file.

There is no conflict between mtp and adb on normal Android devices. I
use both all the time.

[Bug 1161202] [NEW] All our Lucid 2.6 and 3.0 kernels hang with heavy memory loads

2013-03-27 Thread Marc Hasson
Public bug reported:

The purpose of this bug is to report/emphasize the severe number of
system hangs, which require power-cycling, on our deployment of servers
running the 10.04LTS (Lucid) release. The issue here is essentially
identical to that reported for the 3.2 kernels on 12.04LTS in bug
#1154876 at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1154876
almost 2 weeks ago.

The kernel version which fails for us in the field is a 2.6.38-16
Ubuntu kernel. Though the power-cycling recovery in the field means we
never received a crash dump for analysis we've been able to reproduce
what appears to be the identical symptoms on an in-house VMware testbed.
The exact same failure as the other bug also occurs in our testbed on
Lucid using the very latest stock 3.0.0-32-generic kernel from the
repository.

See the other bug for details of scripts/loads and details of a kdb
session during the hang. I didn't reproduce all those attachments for
this bug report since everything for this version of the system would be
similar. Essentially all processes remain "stuck" in
__alloc_pages_nodemask and never succeed in allocating memory. All CPUs
are busy rerunning each process to try again, to no avail. The OOM
logic is not invoked on the 3.0 kernel while in this hang, even though
plenty of OOMs had occurred in the time leading up to the hang. In the
2.6.38 kernels it looks essentially the same except that even during the
hang we see the OOM select_bad_process() function continually called but
no OOM candidate is returned, due to a pending one previously selected.
But the end result is identical: continual memory allocation failures,
short sleeps, try again, and the system becomes totally non-responsive
other than for "pings". The serial console and all other CLI or GUI
goes totally dead, with no response. The only thing one can do is break
in with kdb to investigate, as shown in the other bug.

Before the hangs even occur we will also see very heavy pgscank and
pgscand numbers, as reported by the "sar" facility. On our production
machines these can each hit millions of page scans per second and seem
to occur even when there are several gigabytes of available memory. The
system hangs are invariably immediately preceded by exceptionally high
levels of pgscank and usually pgscand as well.

We really need a remedy or some kind of workaround for this issue.

[Bug 1161199] [NEW] need two SVG files for microphone mute and unmute

2013-03-27 Thread Shengyao Xue
Public bug reported:

there was already had a notification-audio-volume-muted.svg file in the
notify-osd-icons package.
and this is for speaker mute. when user press the hotkey on their keyboard
(such as Fn+F1), the SVG file will show in the OSD correctly.

But recently, there are some computers have a additional hotkey:
microphone mute/unmute hotkey. this is useful for some applications, for
example VOIP program.

So, if we can have two additional SVG files, notification-audio-mic-muted.svg,
notification-audio-mic-unmuted.svg.
then we can write some code to response the mic mute/unmute hotkey, and display
the SVG files, just as for speaker mute/unmute.

[Bug 1078982] Re: mouse sensitivity broken

2013-03-27 Thread DAP
I have the opposite problem, the speed is too slow. I turn off acceleration
because I want a linear transfer function between mouse move & cursor positon.
The sensitivity setting does nothing.
"Device Accel Constant Deceleration" is already at 1 and can't be set lower.

At the moment it seems I would have to buy a higher DPI mouse, but one
should not have to buy a new mouse to change the speed.

[Bug 775387] Re: Invest-applet fails to start after upgrade to Natty

2013-03-27 Thread sdaau
Ah, one more - for the patched version above, to get the icon to show in
panel via Add to Panel, or via command line (check the name of the
panels first via `ls ~/.gconf/apps/panel/toplevels`):

python /usr/lib/gnome-panel/gnome-panel-add
--applet="OAFIID:Invest_Applet" --panel="panel_0"

... just change the line (in /usr/lib/gnome-applets/invest-applet):

gnomeapplet.bonobo_factory('OAFIID:Invest_Applet',

... into:

gnomeapplet.bonobo_factory('OAFIID:Invest_Applet_Factory',

[Bug 775387] Re: Invest-applet fails to start after upgrade to Natty

2013-03-27 Thread sdaau
Well, I don't really care about investing, but this seemed like a python
example for an applet which I wanted to study - so after some fiddling
around, I finally got (at least) the `/usr/lib/gnome-applets/invest-
applet -d --window` to show an icon and preference window. (goddamn
capitalists, using my labor, hehe :) ) Here's a pic:

http://sdaaubckp.sourceforge.net/post/gnome/invest-applet-natty.png

The thing is - I basically went along with errors I saw, and tried to modify
them. First of, I got a working Python applet example from here:
http://www.znasibov.info/blog/post/gnome-applet-with-python-part-1.html
... and changed `PanelApplet.Applet()` into `gnomeapplet.Applet()`; apart from
that, there are modifications going from `Gtk.` to `gtk.` (e.g. `app =
Gtk.Window(Gtk.WindowType.TOPLEVEL)` -> `app = gtk.Window()`).

Then, I found this, where it seems that someone already tried to patch
`invest-applet` for natty:

https://code.launchpad.net/~rodrigo-moya/ubuntu/natty/gnome-applets/no-
more-deprecated/+merge/41494

but seemingly, I had _reverted_ some of those changes - to get it
working again with my 11.04 Natty?

I'm not sure if this is due to different gtk bindings for different
Pythons; I think I may have seen somewhere, that `Gtk` is for Python 3 -
however, that makes the above `no-more-deprecated` posting a little
weird, because the default Python in Natty is 2.7 ???!

Therefore - the patch is *really* nasty, as it mixes `gi.repository` and
`gtk` imports - but it's basically a "proof of concept", I guess... Also
- I just tried to add this patched version to panel; again there is no
icon visible on panel (that could be due to me not converting every
single pixbuf call; see patch) - however, one positive thing is that
after that attempt, while `ps axf | grep invest` does still show the
process in the background, it takes only a single `kill $pid` in order
to get it removed (so no single user mode mess like in previous post).
With the original version, even the standalone debug couldn't be killed
with Ctrl-C (I had to do a `ps axf` and `kill $pid` in another terminal,
to stop the process).

I didn't try fixing anything beyond the starting icon in standalone
debug mode, and the preferences window which is raised upon click of
that icon (as shown in screenshot). Still, hope this will be helpful to
others...

PS: I'll dump a few dev notes (obtained during patch development) here
as well:

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in
the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/

[Bug 1160860] Re: Ubuntu not shutting down

2013-03-27 Thread Quinn Balazs
>From your description it sounds like either an ACPI problem, or a
recurrence of a previous issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1061639";>seen
here that can cause the system to hang on shutdown with a tty
printout of mount: / is busy followed by a system halt. Try setting
acpi=force in GRUB, and if that makes no impact, try shutting down from
a tty, and note the output before it becomes non responsive. As a fix to
the previous issue was pushed out, make sure that you have the latest
version of ifupdown (should be 0.7.2ubuntu2). If all of this fails, add
more info, and that will make it easier to flesh out what is occurring
here.

[Bug 1161073] Re: seq puts the separator on wrong spot!

2013-03-27 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. First of
all, please use 'ubuntu-bug coreutils' next time, so that a minimum of
information can be automatically collected (like, for example, package
version, coreutils version).

I can confirm this on coreutils 8.20 (Raring, version 8.20-3ubuntu5):

[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$ seq --version
seq (GNU coreutils) 8.20
Copyright (C) 2012 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later .
This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it.
There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.

Written by Ulrich Drepper.
[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$ seq -s, 5
1
2,3,4,5,[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$

But I cannot see it on a more up-to-date coreutils:

[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$ src/seq --version
seq (GNU coreutils) 8.21.20-2c2d0
Copyright (C) 2013 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later .
This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it.
There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.

Written by Ulrich Drepper.
[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$ src/seq -s, 5
1,2,3,4,5
[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/build/buildd/coreutils$

So I will check as soon as possible for the fix.

xrandr --output VGA1 --rotate normal
worked fine. Any clue why the default as downloaded from daily build is
twisted left?

Thanks again. I was getting a crick in my neck.

[Bug 1130399] Re: Nautilus CIFS Windows Share Mount Bug

2013-03-27 Thread David Cahill
Can a dev please comment on this? I unfortunately do not have a patch
other than the work around of using all caps. And for a large
organization, that isn't a work around.

We can't upgrade many of our users (~300) to 12.04 until this is
resolved.

To the best of my recollection, I left the selection as the top one as
indicated in the screenprint.

Anyway, I left the system for a few hours and when I returned the screen
was blank. Pressing the shift key woke the system up, but the update
manager windows were blank. I used the applications, system, log out
menu to restart the system. I got the screenprints by running via Remote
Desktop Viewer from a U10.04 system. Mythbuntu left screen capture out
of their install, pity.

I searched the regular Ubuntu forums and found others were having
problems with Update Manager. I had a similar problem in late 2012 with
another update manager run. I have been out of town for about 3 months.

This morning, I used the command line to run apt-get update; apt-get
upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade as was advised on the regular forum. There
were several updates and no problems noted.

Regards;
John

[Bug 1160521] Re: Selected 1600x900 gets 900x1600 rotated 90 degrees

2013-03-27 Thread jerrylamos
What I did was install raring amd64 iso with defaults as it is in daily
build. I didn't do any changes, just installed, booted, then brought up
displays to set the correct resolution for the monitor which is
1600x900, wide, with all text running horizontal wide.

raring i386 iso install is fine.

I'll take a look at why the default daily build may be setting rotation
differently than it used to.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll try them.

Any progress supporting this card? I suspect the problem might be
related to the driver not detecting the sound outputs properly.

[Bug 1113870] Re: Wifi broken after kernel update

2013-03-27 Thread Phil Norbeck
I found that by reverting to the previous version of the driver will fix
things. It upgraded me to 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 and my wireless
strength dropped to almost nothing. Downgrading to the 'quantal'
version 5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3 fixed it for me, though this is most
certainly a bug. I'm not sure why the 6.20 driver doesn't want to play
nice.
