commit 07ee1bcb0c3c17032901b6813ab2a13439061495
Author: Valeriy Ponomaryov vponomar...@mirantis.com
Date: Wed Jun 18 05:18:36 2014 -0400

Code cleanup: use oslo's to_slug() instead of slugify()

The bash completion code is the sole user of the slugify() function
in utils, which is substantially similar to to_slug() provided in
strutils from oslo. Remove slugify() and use to_slug() instead.

Arguably the real fix to this is to configure apache with --reallyall

secondary package (libapache2-mod-extra or something).

[Bug 1328958] Re: Local provider assumes a local ubuntu user exists

2014-06-24 Thread Robie Basak
I have reproduced the issue again on a fresh Trusty cloud image. It
reproduces reliably just by removing the ubuntu user first. Exact
reproduction steps below.

Juju requires the machines it provisions to have an ubuntu user.

That's fine, but Juju must not assume that the local user has an ubuntu
user to start with, when bootstrap a local provider environment. Juju is
expected to run on an Ubuntu desktop machine. Ubuntu desktop machines do
not typically have an ubuntu user.

So, to test this common case in an easily reproducible environment, I
start by removing the ubuntu user, to bring a cloud image environment
closer to that of a desktop user environment.

I first came across this bug on my laptop, which has never been a cloud
environment and has never had an ubuntu user. Apparently Juju has the
ubuntu user hardcoded somewhere in a code path that runs locally,
which is a false assumption.

Exact steps to reproduce on a Trusty cloud image:

ubuntu@foo:~$ cat /etc/cloud/build.info
build_name: server
serial: 20140607.1

sudo -i

apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
reboot

sudo -i
adduser --disabled-password --gecos foo foo
cp -a ~ubuntu/.ssh ~foo/
chown -R foo. ~foo/.ssh
echo 'foo ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL' /etc/sudoers.d/foo

logout

# Log back in as foo here

sudo deluser ubuntu

No, I'm saying that whatever QA we're doing on Juju, we must test the
local provider in an environment that specifically does *not* have an
ubuntu user defined. I presume this is not the case, since bug 1328958

[Bug 1332491] Re: install problem

2014-06-24 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Re: [Bug 1333163] Re: package slapd 2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-06-24 Thread Torkil Svensgaard
Hi

As to the former, I'm unsure how to check but looking at the toplevel
entry in phpldapadmin the dn entry isn't empty. I'll be happy to provide
whatever information is needed if someone lets me know what to do.

As to the latter I've rolled the machine back to a previous snapshot and
no longer have the backup dump, but I noticed that the two topmost
entries in the file had empty dn fields.

Mvh.

Torkil

On 06/23/2014 04:18 PM, Ryan Tandy wrote:
 Hi Torkil,

The error message from the upgrade is really unusual:

slapadd: line 1: cannot add entry with empty dn=

Did your previous database actually contain an entry with an empty dn?

Does the dump that was created during the upgrade actually correspond to
the previous state of your database?

OK, so that part at least is confirmed.

Can you do sudo -u openldap slapcat /tmp/db.ldif and see whether
that file has those entries? e.g. grep '^dn: $' /tmp/db.ldif

If the bogus entries are in your database, to get rid of them you'll
probably have to perform a slapcat dump like above, edit the LDIF, and
slapadd it into an empty database (see the relevant manpages and the
OpenLDAP Admin Guide for details).

[Bug 1333745] [NEW] updating php5 metapackage brings in unnecessarily libapache2-mod-php5

2014-06-24 Thread Stoyan Stoyanov
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

I have a system with the following packages installed:

ii php55.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 all
   server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (metapackage)
ii php5-cgi5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 amd64
server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (CGI binary)
ii php5-common 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 amd64
Common files for packages built from the php5 source
ii php5-gd 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 amd64
   GD module for php5
ii php5-json 1.3.2-2build1 amd64
   JSON module for php5
ii php5-mysql 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 amd64
   MySQL module for php5

If I attempt to update these, libapache2-mod-php5 gets pulled in as a
dependency although the installed php5-cgi should be sufficient to
satisfy the dependency requirements of php5:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
   libapache2-mod-php5 (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-cli (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-readline (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
The following packages will be upgraded:
   php5 (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 = 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-cgi (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 = 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-common (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 = 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-gd (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 = 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)
   php5-mysql (5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4 = 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.1)

If I update the php5-* packages first and then attempt to update php5
everything works as expected.

[Bug 1307027] Re: php5-fpm: Possible privilege escalation due to insecure default permissions of sockets

2014-06-24 Thread Jeff Waugh
I'm worried this fix might be broken: I upgraded php5-fpm on my 14.04
system, and the socket was changed to root:root rather than root:www-
data, so nginx could no longer connect to it.

[Bug 1328958] Re: Local provider run on server images requires an ubuntu user

2014-06-24 Thread Curtis Hovey
@robie
 cat /etc/cloud/build.info

^ this is a server image.
I can reproduce the error in the extraordinary condition of a server image
without an ubuntu user.

juju local-provider just works with desktop and servers. desktops don't
has an ubuntu user, servers have a default ubuntu user.

My own local lxc bootstrap
ls -l /home/curtis/.juju/local/cloud-init-output.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4218 Jun 24 11:23
/home/curtis/.juju/local/cloud-init-output.log

Test of local lxc bootstrap on a trusty server as another user (which I expect
ubuntu to exist on)
$ ls -l $JUJU_HOME/local-trusty/cloud-init-output.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 160425 Jun 24 15:34
/var/lib/jenkins/cloud-city/local-trusty/cloud-init-output.log

When I do remove the ubuntu user from a server, local bootstrap fails
trying to make ubuntu the owner of the cloud-init-output.log. This is
wrong because even when there is an ubuntu user, the log is owned by
root. Desktop's are not effected, though maybe they can be is some some
server packages were added. I imagine the issue relates to what did juju
look at decide the localhost was a server.

The issue is present in all version of juju 1.18.x and 1.19.x. So while
this is a real problem, it happens under special conditions. This
doesn't block the release of 1.20.0

[Bug 1329932] Re: New upstream bugfix release 1.0.4 (LXC MRE)

2014-06-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 1.0.4-0ubuntu0.1

---
lxc (1.0.4-0ubuntu0.1) trusty; urgency=medium

  * New upstream bugfix release. (MRE trackaging bug LP: #1329932)
- Drop all existing patches (all applied upstream).
- Fix lxc-attach failing from a different login session. (LP: #1315052)
- Fix wrong cgroup on login to container. (LP: #1315521)

  * Cherry-pick upstream (stable branch) commits to fix testsuite under adt:
- tests: Avoid the download template when possible
- tests: Don't fail when HOME isn't defined
- tests: apparmor: Always end with a newline

  * Sync packaging with utopic:
- Depend on either cgmanager or cgroup-lite and recommend cgmanager.
This should ensure systems get cgmanager by default even if cgroup-lite
is already installed, yet makes it possible for the user to remove
cgmanager if they really want to.
- Remove hardcoded dependency on apparmor, instead generate it from
rules so that the source package can be backported without changes (the
right apparmor version will be picked up based on the release number).
- Do not start lxc-instance in postinst without any instance specified,
as that is an invalid request.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-06-24 Thread James Troup
So I just ran face first into this bug. Unless I'm missing something,
I don't think ntp being installed by default helps at all. MAAS and
Juju (for the MAAS provisioner) both depend on servers having an
accurate clock early in the boot process; ntpdate achieves this
because it's willing to jump time; ntp is not (for valid reasons).

And, even if I'm wrong about that, we still need a fix for trusty and
precise. Could we not just fix/reverse the logic in ntpdate-debian so
that it prefers dhcp provided NTP servers if one is found? Or at the
very least have it fallback to dhcp provided NTP if it can't find an
ntp.conf?

[Bug 1333969] Bug is not a security issue

2014-06-24 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2014-06-24 Thread Steve Langasek
This appears to hit a corner case with respect to multiarch, in that
changing a package from Multi-Arch: same / Arch: any to Multi-Arch: no /
Arch: all is not handled cleanly on upgrade.

As libkadm5srv-mit8 appears to now be a transitional package, the
correct solution here would appear to be to make it Arch: any / Multi-
Arch: same again.

[Bug 1333462] Re: Precise: Linux partitioning tools give GPT Linux partitions wrong type code

2014-06-24 Thread Phillip Susi
A few comments on your patch:

First, we prefer to work with bzr branches rather than diffs these days.
You might want to see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributedDevelopment.

Second, the changelog entry should mention the name of the patch, in
addition to its description, and note that it is a cherry-pick from
upstream, for example:

add-support-for-a-new-Linux-specific-GPT-partition-t.patch: Cherry pick
upstream patch to add Linux own partition type code GUID for fs
partitions on GPT disks (LP: #1333462)

Finally, it looks like you snuck in two other unrelated patches, which
is a no-no.

[Bug 1325801] Re: failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R Image boot:

2014-06-24 Thread Paul White
I've just tried to create USB images on two Kubuntu 14.04 PCs using USB
Creator and the problem persists. This is using Lubuntu image 20140623.1
(64-bit).

I've also tried using UNetBootin and I find that I boot into a live
desktop without any trouble.

The problem is clearly with the creation method and not the downloaded
images themselves. I thought I was confirming someone else's bug report
with findings of my own and I apologise for not using an alternative
method. Kubuntu's USB Creator has always been reliable in the past so I
had no reason to suspect that application has suddenly started to
consistently fail.

I suggest that the focus of this bug report turns to the method of
creating images rather than trying to find fault with the images
themselves.

UNetBootin will be used for future testing. Thanks for your interjection
Walter.

[Bug 1016777] Re: dotty missing labels and context menu is broken

2014-06-24 Thread Rick Poyner
Font issue solved for me:

 * sudo apt-get install xfonts-100dpi
 * restart X session (log out and back in, for example)

Perhaps some xfonts package should be added as a dependency, or at least
to Recommends:? I did not investigate whether/why fonts-liberation could
suffice.

re: context menus in dotty: they are sensitive to the state of num-lock
for some reason. If they don't work, toggle num-lock and try again.
Dotty has had this problem for a long time.

[Bug 1249515] Re: regression with session-cleanup-script triggering without actual logins

2014-06-24 Thread Jonathan Reed
I'm also seeing this in Trusty (lightdm 1.10.1-0ubuntu1). At our site,
we have a custom greeter using the GIR bindings, and calling
.cancel_authentication() causes the session-cleanup script to run. As
this is designed to, you know, clean up after a session, it is not
idempotent and is not designed to be run without the corresponding
session-setup script having run. Obviously we can workaround this, but
seeing as how this was a pretty serious regression, is there any hope of
this getting fixed?

I tested changing the Refresh rate in Composite plugin from 50 to 60,
but when I restart Unity the refresh rate return to 50, maybe I'm
missing something.

[Bug 1333959] [NEW] Window selection sends mouse click to tmux

2014-06-24 Thread Olli Niemi
Public bug reported:

Precondtions:

1. Tmux having mouse support enabled (pane selector specific).
2. Tmux with a window open in a terminal having more than one pane.
3. Second terminal open.
4. Application specific window selector opened from Launcher.
5. First mouse button pressed for tmux window in the selector.

What happens is that the mouse click is sent from the selector all the
way down to the tmux window. What happens is that I have to press the
mouse button again in the *same* pane for the selection to cancel (I see
the yellow marking on the upper right corner of the old pane even when
the green selector indicator has changed to a new pane). I never wanted
to select that pane from the selector, I just wanted to select a window.
I don't want the mouse click to be sent to the terminal.

[Bug 1317425] Re: compiz crash and window decorator disappear

2014-06-24 Thread Marc-Andre Heroux
Hello again,

I got few compiz crash without the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, so it did
not correct the situation.

As far as I can remember, it crashed while starting Firefox few times.

Have nice day!

[Bug 1063617] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values

2014-06-24 Thread Christopher Townsend
@Manglasape,

I take it you have an Nvidia graphics card. There seems to be a
separate bug where Nvidia graphics somehow defaults to 50Hz after
reboots. I've tried fixing that bug, but it seems it's still not fixed.
I don't have Nvidia, so it's hard for me to actually dig deep and try to
fix it.

That said, I'm setting this back to verification-needed since your bug
seems different. If you don't have Nvidia, then, well, something else
is going on.

Thanks!
