Re: [Bug 1297051] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't recognise C1 controls
On 05/08/14 10:17, Egmont Koblinger wrote: > ./src/vte-2.91 --encoding=latin1 # or whichever other encoding you > wish to use An additional comment on this ... if I use latin1 encoding then normal shell commands like 'man' have glitches in their output, presumably because they use Unicode characters and assume, for example, UTF-8 encoding. If I use utf8 encoding then my remote application does not work at all (because the remote application is completely incapable of sending UTF-8 encoding). This is OK for me. I just means that I should use the terminal so that it automatically SSHs to the remote system, selecting the correct encoding for that system (latin1). That is, I need to have a terminal that is dedicated to the session on the remote system, while keeping that separate from any terminal that is on my local computer. That is all fine for me. What does not work is to make a terminal, type some local commands, then SSH to the remote system - unless I change profile around the SSH. (Of course it would be nice if this were automatic.) Strangely, while in the released gnome-terminal I can right mouse click and change profile dynamically, in the program that I built from source as per your instructions, this feature seems to have disappeared. Is there still some way of maintaining and selecting profiles? [Bug 1352718] [NEW] Unknown memory utilization in Ubuntu14.04 Trusty
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 on a new machine with 8GB of RAM, and it seems to be locking up periodically and nothing is in syslog file. I've installed Nagios and have been watching the graphs, and it looks like memory is going high from 7% to 72% in just a span of 10 mins. Only node process are running on server. [Bug 1342000] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From vaish...@in.ibm.com 2014-08-05 06:24 EDT--- -- Externalizing comment from Richard -- (In reply to comment #19) > Indira, are you or were you able to install 14.04 in the same host? I have the same issue on on of my guests, netg3, so I can answer this. When I start the 14.04 LTS install, I see two virtual disks listed in the partitioner questions. One disk is a 55GB virito-scsi disk (the intended root target disk) and the other is a 12GB virtio-block disk (intended for I/O tests). When I start the 14.10 install, I only see the the 12GB virtio-block disk. The virtio-scsi root disk is not listed. So, it is definitely possible to install 14.04 on the same guest disk where a 14.10 installation would fail. > And could you answer the question: > could you please show the results of 'ps -ef | grep qemu' while the vm is > running? Re: [Bug 1297051] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't recognise C1 controls
On 05/08/14 10:17, Egmont Koblinger wrote: > which goes something like this: OK, after a certain amount of guessing and over 1GB of download and install, yes, I managed to do that. It does appear that it is now correctly recognising the CSI character. However that then reveals another problem. The remote host is assuming that the terminal emulator supports the RI (Reverse Index) character (code 0x8D). This is another of the C1 controls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C0_and_C1_control_codes The effect is then that, in the editor, the left, right and down arrow keys work but the up arrow key does not (because the host is sending an RI in response). > And these days when you watch videos of cats online, who cares about 1 > more byte? OK. Fair enough. The performance difference isn't all that significant. :-) The more fundamental issue is that if a terminal emulator asserts to the remote host that it emulates a VT200 series terminal then it needs to do so. Because gnome-terminal says that it is a VT200, the remote host is entitled to use all of the features of that terminal. In reality much of the C1 control set was not standardised or is not used. I would expect that 0x9D (OSC) and 0x9C (ST) are used and should be implemented. OSC, as a synonym for ESC+"]" can probably be done the way you have done CSI. Possibly 0x90 (DCS) would be used somewhere. > Really out of curiosity, could you please name a few of these > "built-in programs (for example, the editor)" along with the system > they're running on? The remote system runs the VMS operating system. As VMS was created by the same company that created the various VT terminal series, probably it is more rigorous in its demands that a VT terminal emulator really does emulate correctly. Almost any program under VMS that uses the built-in screen handling modules will malfunction if the emulation is not accurate. This dialog box was modal, preventing me from scrolling or copying the text in the Terminal widget to see what really happened. The text visible in the Terminal widget did not show up in any of the /var/log /dist-upgrade/* logs, but it was clearly a python exception and stack trace. Upon closing the dialog box, the upgrade continued, contrary to what the alarming message stated. [Bug 741869] Re: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs.
This bug needs to be fixed for those of us that don't use unity and only rely on gnome-shell. The problem seems to have been diagnosed to compiz, and thus the fix should be focused there so that it's not unnecessarily tied to unrelated packages (i.e. unity, as was the fix mentioned above). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741869 Title: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/741869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1241822] Re: RAID 5 not available after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1241086 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241086 I upgraded to kernel 3.13.0.32.28 (3.13.0-32-generic) after getting a message about hardware updates for my system was coming to an end of life and I should do a hardware update. Normally I use apt-get dist- upgrade for such a thing but I had a friend over and I used the upgrade- manager gui as an intro to how easy upgrades are etc. etc. etc only this time, dave and joe, we had a problem... I previously was running 3.08.0-33-generic with a /data folder mapped to a dmraid (software raid) array of 4 drives as type raid-5 but actually mapped as 2-pair striped and mirrored on an ASUS motherboard having NVIDIA chipset for onboard graphics, drive support, and other I/O. This system has been running fairly stable for a few years with minor upgrades since being built when 320Gb SATA2 HDs were coming down in price. It is getting dated, though... After upgrade, I get the same result as mimmo on this bug report. I've never made a bug report so wouldn't know the protocol - but would like to report the issue I just ran into - since it seemed that mimmo's was a couple of major commits ago. When I revert back to the previous kernel during boot on grub - everything works as it did prior to upgrade, so I suffered no data loss and no major problems. When I let it boot to the new build, and I run a few dmraid commands, the drives are intact, just the kernel doesn't know about it. dmraid -s and dmraid -b reports the same metadata in both environments If you want log data, please let me know protocol of what's needed. I'll keep my workstation as is for a little bit before digging and trying to fix on my own... I may eventually off-load my array to a single 2TB disk so I have a good backup and rebuild the array with a new set of 2TB drives (assuming I can rebuild) -- da Lizard -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241822 Title: RAID 5 not available after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1241822/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1352640] Re: Huge PCI BAR support needed for Ubuntu 14.10
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1352640/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1319595] Re: upstart script ignores some php-fpm.conf parameters, cannot be bypassed in preference of SystemV init script.
This is quite a serious regression because it badly impacts integration with other systems that depend on sysvinit compatibility. My use case: AWS::CloudFormation::Init (cfn-init) understands sysvinit services, but not upstream services. On Trusty, I can't restart php5-fpm with the init script due to this bug, therefore cfn-init won't restart it in response to file changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319595 Title: upstart script ignores some php-fpm.conf parameters, cannot be bypassed in preference of SystemV init script.
