[Bug 921208] Re: win7/x64 installer hangs on startup with 0x0000005d.
I'm not sure I follow. I tried to answer to the last inquiry in this bugreport, Eduardo asked if someone can confirm that +nx solves this problem (it doesn't). Now you say with certainity that it is a bug in TCG (if it is a bug, why only uncertain guesses are present in this bugreport?), mentions some experimental patch on the mailing list without providing any details (maybe you suggest trying ALL patches with the word experimental in them?), and also say tha I _should_ have a look at it -- why should I? I never tried to run win7 64bit in tcg until yesterday, and yesterday I tried it just because someone reported a problem with it, pointing to this bugreport... So I have a system that this happens to. Tablet model is CTH480S. The thing is that this setup used to work until today (kernel update 2 days ago? [Bug 1385630] Re: systemd 215 hangs during boot
Hi Martin, True, I cannot switch between tty's. The whole system is unresponsive to any keyboard commands. About SysRQ (reisub): I cannot try it, because in my keyboard (Logitech K740) there is no SysRQ button. Usually it is the alt-function of the PrintScreen button, but not here. About the kernels. I have seen this hanging behaviour with the Ubuntu kernels 3.16.0-23 and 3.16.0-24 (the latest). But always with quiet in the kernel booting line. If I remove quiet and turn to verbose mode, the booting will significantly slow down (because of the rolling text lines in the screen), but I haven't seen these hangs then. In the log files, there is nothing, no errors about this. Only one in x.log pointing that vesa module is not present. But I do not have vesa driver installed, instead I have modesetting and fbdev installed. They are loaded fine. And of course the Intel driver, the loading of which always succeeds. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1385630 Title: systemd 215 hangs during boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1385630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1385630] Re: systemd 215 hangs during boot
Martin, In addition the previous post #8 I tried again booting without quiet in the kernel line: 10/10 boots were successful. Then with quiet: 3 out of 10 did hang. Hanging (or crash) happens right after the fsck is done. Mostly after sda1 fsck and before sdb1 fsck. Sometimes both sda1 and sdb1 fsck lines are visible after the hang, indicating they both been done. So, if booting always succeeds without quiet (slow boot) and hang only occurs with quiet (fast boot), can that be an indication of an unsuccessful race condition, followed by a hang or crash? And why systemd 208 was always successful, but 215 not? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1385630 Title: systemd 215 hangs during boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1385630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1388276] Re: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected utopic ** Description changed: I've just upgraded two servers to use 14.10 (they were before at 14.04) and found that my builds were taking much longer: - A jenkins regression test suite that took about 135 minutes is now taking about 300 minutes. - A C complation tasks which took the following amount of time (time from tcsh): 419.633u 9.471s 1:36.78 443.3% 0+0k 0+166968io 0pf+0w is now taking 519.637u 11.022s 4:42.80 187.6% 0+0k 0+176216io 0pf+0w Both tasks are heavily using all the available cores of the processor. In one case it is a dual socket E5420 ( 8 cores), in another case it is a virtualized 8 cores E5645. I first thought it could be the new version of gcc (4.9) since both tasks involves a lot of C compilation. Although gcc 4.9 is slower (3s vs 2.8s in my own tests) it is not enough to explain the difference. I actually also tried using gcc 4.8 and 4.7 with the same performance degradation. I unfortunately do not have a 14.04 server to which I can compare the results to see where the difference is in terms of performance. [Bug 1388276] Re: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks
apport information ** Description changed: I've just upgraded two servers to use 14.10 (they were before at 14.04) and found that my builds were taking much longer: - A jenkins regression test suite that took about 135 minutes is now taking about 300 minutes. Is anyone observing the same behavior? --- AlsaDevices: Error: command ['ls', '-l', '/dev/snd/'] failed with exit code 2: ls: cannot access /dev/snd/: No such file or directory AplayDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 ArecordDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=9a90cb5e-bce2-49fc-8c26-8f3d23bce997 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-05-15 (899 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120424.1) IwConfig: eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions. lono wireless extensions. [Bug 1388072] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Tablet] USB devices in docking station no longer working after resuming from long standby
Just tried Linux Kernel 3.18.0-031800rc2_3.18.0-031800rc2.201410262035 from the PPA which simply fails to properly boot and falls to a busybox console because for some reason it fails to find the root drive. Considering its an rc2 release it was not unexpected to run into some unrelated issues. FYI the failed boot output was: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system waut long enough?) - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/MYROOT-DRIVE-UUID does not exist.
