[Bug 1263498] Re: Asus G75VX, can not modify brightness

2015-01-05 Thread BemNum
Hello,

I can also confirm that on Asus R510L with Nvidia GeForce 840M I can
change brightness via "System Settings" -> Brightness and lock" ->
"Brightness" slider.

Slider works on Ubuntu 14.04:
- kernel 3.13.0-43-generic #72-Ubuntu
- nvidia driver nvidia-331-updates 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4

But I cannot change brightness using the fn keys.

Regards,

PS.
Maybe now it is a prolem reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400068 ?

[Bug 1407586] [NEW] After upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 youtube videos do not play in Chromium, Chrome, or Firefox

2015-01-05 Thread Matthew Wodrich
Public bug reported:

I just discovered that after upgrading to Utopic a few days ago, youtube
html5 and flash videos simply don't play in Chrome, Chromium, or
FireFox. Videos will load, appear to buffer, but not play at all. The
player interface will be responsive, but the video does not play, the
seek bar does not move, and no sound is heard. I checked the software
updater tool to see if there have been further releases of any of these
packages, and it says my computer's software is up to date. I did some
searching and found this bug, recently closed from inactivity which
appears to describe the same symptoms as I'm having:

[Bug 1407587] [NEW] Provide testing in Ubuntu Snappy images

2015-01-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

autopkgtest should grow a ssh setup script for running tests on Ubuntu
Snappy. It should run

  sudo ubuntu-device-flash core --output=/tmp/snappy.img --developer-
mode

(which is fast as images get cached in ~/.cache/ubuntuimages), or take
an already existing snappy image as an option.

For now this will only support deb Depends: in unpack mode as the image
is readonly.

Note that in the future autopkgtest should also grow support for snap
packages, but they are still being defined, so that's for a later time.

[Bug 1265045] Re: Make /usr/bin/node available so shebang works

2015-01-05 Thread kapouer
Alternatives only work when the set are alternatives of a similar function.
Here the original name conflict concerned programs with completely different
concerns,
and it's been established that "node" is too generic a name - a name conflict
happened once
and will likely happen again when the Next Big Thing is named node, again.

[Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2015-01-05 Thread Jan
@Lawrence Yes, I did.
Enabling the /etc/pm/sleep.d/ script makes my desktop flash for a moment after
I unlock my screen, and then I'm thrown back to the unlock screen and I have to
log in again. The second time nothing happens and I have to unblank my screen
using the hotkey. It also happend that my laptop suspended again after I logged
in, but I can't reproduce that now.

The /etc/acpi/events script works more or less, but the timeout starts
counting the moment I open the lid, so if I type my password within the
5 second timeout it works but if I am not fast enough it doesn't. I
could enlagre the timeout but then I would have to wait longer if I do
log in quicker.

2015-01-05 Thread Matthew Wodrich
Going through my browser history, I realized I had definitely managed to
play some youtube videos after the upgrade to Utopic, in at least two of
the mentioned browsers. I closed everything down, rebooted, and have
been able to play videos in all three browsers. I have no idea why all
three wouldn't play videos, whether html5 or flash, all at the same
time, but rebooting cleared it up just fine. I should have done so
before filing the report.

[Bug 1404824] Re: There is no way to uninstall a scope on ubuntu phone

2015-01-05 Thread Michał Sawicz
** Also affects: ubuntu-ux
   Importance: Undecided

** Description changed:

Currently, I only know that "click unregister" may help to remove an
installed scope. May I know how I can remove an installed scope on the
phone if a user does not like to have it in the phone?

[Bug 1350993] Re: Support link should be clickable, app preview shows mailto links with "mailto" text

2015-01-05 Thread Michał Sawicz
It's an explicit design decision to not allow links in the text widget,
but looking at the screenshot - should it not actually use a table
widget? And maybe we get to add support for links in the "data" part of
the table widgets.

[Bug 1404558] Re: IPv6 related kernel panic following upgrade to 3.13.0-43

2015-01-05 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Could you also give us a flavour for how reproducible this is?

If this is seemingly fixed in the lts-utopic, the -ckt13 test is likely
the most informative. There is also a kernel sitting in -proposed which
might be worth a shot too.

[Bug 1387691] Re: Media Player should not be visible in the app scope and launcher

2015-01-05 Thread Michał Sawicz
I agree with Ted, if the media player should never "be" an app, it needs
to be a trusted prompt, overlaying the originating app, not its own
separate app in the spread etc.

[Bug 1394614] Re: Cached results stay in scopes even with no internet

I remember looking at that briefly before Xmas. The news scope creates a
whole bunch of cache files under $HOME/.local (or maybe $HOME/.cache, I
forget which). So, I'd say it's the scope itself that's responsible.

Verified with "acpi_backlight=vendor" parameter added into grub, the
result is the brightness level indicator would only change between max
and max-1, however, the brightness itself does not.

With "acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'" added, the brightness keys are not
working at all.

[Bug 1091464] Re: Unable to chainload Windows 8 with Secure Boot enabled

2015-01-05 Thread NVieville
Hello Wolle,

As I explained in comment #31, I had the same issue with a Toshiba
laptop, and things were soved with secure boot and GRUB2 after updating
the laptop BIOS.

Maybe you should give a try, if your laptop BIOS is not up-to-date, see:

http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=EU

you'll find there a BIOS update from 13/02/14 to version 6.50-WIN:

http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20130617115713.zip

Hope this will help.

Cordially,

2015-01-05 Thread pascal
Happy new year to you and thank you for answering so quickly.

The problem was i hadn't find the way to authorise the mbr or the uefi
writing in the bios.
Now, all works fine (Xubuntu and win8.1), but there is a message saying the
laptop is unprotected just before the GRUB prompt.

However, this computer is now 20.000 km away, in Australia with my daugther
for 5 months and i can't help you if you need more information (I live in
France).

[Bug 1407629] [NEW] libpasswdqc generates smutty passwords frequently

2015-01-05 Thread Bracken
Public bug reported:

The "random" password generator used by passwd (I think this is
libpasswdqc), generates smutty passwords with such frequency that I'm
concerned about its randomness, has someone put an Easter egg in PAM?

Steps to recreate:
Either use passwd to set a new password, or more simply run pwqgen a bunch of
times. The results are too frequently sexual references, often directly
referring to the female anatomy. I ran the command ONCE while writing this and
got:
  alandaws@alandaws-W510 ~ $ pwqgen
  Probe!thrust6scorn

This is at best inappropriate, at worst it's generating weaker passwords
then people might expect.

[Bug 1403955] Re: DHCP's "Option interface-mtu 9000" is being ignored on bridge interface br0

2015-01-05 Thread Robie Basak
Presumably this is related to the DHCP client via dhclient and dhclient-
script, so presumably should be a task on isc-dhcp?

I see code in dhclient-script that sets the MTU based on the DHCP
option, but it doesn't have any special behaviour for br0. So I'm
wondering if this code is being used at all, or if some other
interaction is causing it to fail in this case.

Why is br0 being set up to bridge eth0? Is something doing this
automatically or is this configuration necessary for something (if so,
what?)?

Without using br0 and just using plain eth0, does the interface-mtu
option work correctly?

** Package changed: dhcp3 (Ubuntu) => isc-dhcp (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1402298] Re: Two independent instances of Software & Updates

2015-01-05 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Converting "Software & Updates" into a proper System Settings panel, as
planned, would be one way of fixing this bug.

Probably there is a simpler short-term solution, though, using
GApplication/GtkApplication.

[Bug 1407631] [NEW] nvidia-331-uvm 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4: nvidia-331-uvm kernel module failed to build

2015-01-05 Thread Berthold
Public bug reported:

This bug was reported after running a system update. It has had no
immediately visible effect.

Some hardware specs: Dell XPS 15Z with Nvidia Optimus card. Had quite a
struggle installing and getting 14.04 up and running with native
resolution.

Modifications I have made:
GRUB: I have tried some different settings to avoid a black screen after the
GRUB boot page. Currently it looks like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=linux noapic nolapic i915.i915_enable_rc6=1
i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 pcie_aspm=force"

Bumblebee installed and things seem to be running relatively stable
(mouse lagging after suspend some times though). Using the NVIDIA binary
331.113 nvidia -331 driver (proprietary, tested).

[Bug 1358340] Re: [Indicators] Complete greeter profiles

2015-01-05 Thread Olga Kemmet
"And the default for A should be off and the default for B should be on?"
I would say yes, at least for the time being.
Maybe an easier overview of these settings for the user is needed.
[A] - always allow
[B] - restricted access
[C] - no access
They obviously will need better wording and some explanation to users what they
set. :)
The default would be [A]. And anything else can be set by the user. I feel that
currently it is rather confusing.

Just tested this on vivid-proposed and it looks like the issue doesn't
exist there, only in RTM. In vivid proposed the text does already turn
white, but in the RTM image it doesn't. So I guess this was fixed at
some point but not back ported.
