[Bug 1583437] Re: Directly after boot there is no network

2016-05-19 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1583664] [NEW] My upgrade from 14.04 was very buggy, so re-install necessary. It crashed.

2016-05-19 Thread bek-bek
Public bug reported:

This seems like the biggest joke ever... only I'm not laughing.
Now I know why there's that saying "never touch a running system".

I got my self into a mess by upgrading my dual-boot 14.04 to 16.04.
Updated everything then chose to "upgrade".

>From the very first start after the upgrade there was no task bar, no bash,
>only the desktop... the OS seemed very broken.
To search online for help, I clicked on an html file on my system, which
started firefox.

Roughly one day later I gave up and decided to re-install 16.04 to replace the
broken version.
Using the live version from a usb.

That attempt crashed... that is this report.

The sad thing is that this is the type of experience that demonstrates
why Ubuntu is still light years behind Apple and Microsoft... Open
source is all well and good, but it cannot be that only developers can
install and upgrade it.

Yours,
Alex B.

[Bug 1577898] Re: thunderbolt hotplug is broken

2016-05-19 Thread Mario Limonciello
Hi,

I verified the kernel in xenial works properly for hotplugging the TB15.

Linux test-Precision-5510 4.4.0-23-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 16
23:04:25 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Does there really need to be a validation done on every other OS too or
this gets dropped from earlier -proposed kernels?

[Bug 1346687] Re: Ubuntu 14 KVM Guest I/O Elevator Non-configurable

2016-05-19 Thread Bpkroth
I hate to reopen an old bug, but I haven't seen this discussed anywhere
else, and I think there is some validity in this.

Without the use of the cfq scheduler on block devices (virtual or not),
the blkio cgroup controller doesn't perform any IO accounting (see
below).

Without that, tools like systemd-cgtop don't show any I/O stats.
Determining which (group of) processes is using the most IO can be very
valuable even in a virtual environment.

It also prevents the use of ionice (which depends on cfq) on certain
tasks within the VM, which again still have merit inside a VM, and the
hypervisor can't affect once it reaches that level in the I/O path.

Now, for accounting at least, whether that's a fix that should be done
in the choice of block device queue scheduler or the blkio cgroup
controller, is perhaps up for debate. But as it stands, users/operators
are prevented from making the choice of elevator for themselves which
seems wrong to me. If I want to pay the CPU cost for performing IO
accounting if not scheduling inside a VM, even if the underlying storage
may turn around and reorder things with its own more global optimization
view, I should still be allowed to.

Thanks,
Brian

This was done on a VMware VM since obviously I can't demonstrate it in a KVM
VM, but the idea applies to physical machines as well. Tested running both
3.16 and 4.5 kernels.

[Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches

2016-05-19 Thread Dirk Heumann
Hi all, I was bugged by this both in Ubuntu 16.04 (any 4.4 kernel after
release) and in ArchLinUX with all actual 4.5 kernels.
My solution was to take the 4.6 kernel on ArchLinUX (testing repository), after
which I was cured from all difficulties. If you use VirtualBox with a new
4.4/4.5 kernel in your client, you get very often bugged by this failure.
--> If you can, use LinUX kernel 4.6.

[Bug 1574801] Re: zfs posix default permissions lost on reboot or unmount

2016-05-19 Thread Kyle Peterson
It might be better to just upgrade zfs to 0.6.5.7. The fix for this and
several other important issues are included in 0.6.5.7.

[Bug 1566957] Re: Sloppy focus mode broken in 16.04 beta2

2016-05-19 Thread Brian Campbell
There's a setting in the CompizConfig Settings Manager (General Options
> Focus & Raise Behaviour > Focus Desktop) that controls the behaviour
for me in 16.04. It was on by default, and despite selecting sloppy
mode in Unity Tweak Tool it would focus the desktop. However turning it
off gave me the usual "sloppy mode" I expected.

[Bug 1275416] Re: touchscreen do not work after suspend/resume

2016-05-19 Thread pebiq
Hello community,

I have the same problem with a TrekStore SurfTab Duo W2 MultiTouch
Tablet/Notebook, which is similar to a Cube i7 from China.

But somehow no solution works to make the touchscreen work after a weak
up from sleep.

Already tried much. Creating this skript doesn't work either:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=190751

Has anyone an idea what to do?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1580732] Re: wireless keyboard - repeating characters unattended

2016-05-19 Thread Tim Passingham
I am now advising others not to move to 16.04 until some sort of
information can be gleaned as to what is going on here. To those who
get the problem, it can be really quite a dangerous fault. I would rate
it as a major issue.

To be clear, sometimes it happens ever hour or two, then not for a few
days, then starts again (I reboot as a matter of course at least once a
day).

I am currently trying to decide whether to go back to 14.04 (quite a lot
of work) or trial a new kernel, even though not officially approved for
16.04 as a LTS system (please correct me if I'm wrong on this)

If I could turn on some log somewhere to help diagnose this I would, but
I've no idea what that would be.

Can anyone please help?

[Bug 1583645] [NEW] Add support for confinement property

2016-05-19 Thread Kyle Fazzari
Public bug reported:

Snaps should be able to specify if they require devmode or if they can
be run confined. This should be done via a YAML property called
"confinement" and it should have two options: "devmode" and "strict."
For example:

name: foo
version: 1
description: foo
summary: foo
confinement: devmode

If one tries to install a snap that has `devmode` as its confinement
without providing the --devmode flag, snapd should fail the installation
with a hint to use --devmode.

Please take this as general guidance - sledgehammer interfaces are fine
in Core 16. We can make them require review once we have more
fine-grained interfaces.

[Bug 1577074] Re: AMDGPU driver problems on "Carrizo" APU

- driver and never had an xorg.conf file (I made a small one that I'm
- using at the moment consisting of only a server layout to ensure screen
- savers, DPMS, etc are all off). The Black screen can happen any time
- from the login screen until hours later. I can ssh into the system to
- shut it down. And just discovered that if I unplug the system from it's

- flip the screen back up, the system wakes up and the screen works again

2016-05-19 Thread Chad Miller
Whoa, it's more weird that you have to specify touch-devices at all.
Please plug in your device, run "xinput list --long" and attach the
results with a good comment.

Then, plug in your other device, run it again, attach with a good
comment.

Then, remove your other device, run it again, and attach that.

[Bug 1583636] Re: Missing Page.header in APL should cause message or color change

2016-05-19 Thread Christian Dywan
I renamed the bug and updated the description. We can still decide what
exactly we'll do as long as something tells developers that they need to
update their code.

** Summary changed:

- addPageToCurrent/NextColumn should complain about missing header
+ Missing Page.header in APL should cause message or color change

** Description changed:

AdaptivePageLayout still supports legacy Page's from 1.2 times that
don't specify a header. Eventually that's going to stop working.

- addPageToCurrent/NextColumn should show a warning if no header is
- defined.
+ addPageToCurrent/NextColumn should show a warning or otherwise visually
+ highlight the header if no header is defined, so developers will know to
+ update their code.

[Bug 1583298] Re: Add support for epoch property

2016-05-19 Thread Kyle Fazzari
** Description changed:

In order to support step upgrades, snaps need to be able to specify
upgrade paths. The method decided upon to specify said upgrade paths is
an optional "epoch" property. Valid values consist of positive integers
and an asterisk (e.g. 1 is epoch 1, 1* is the upgrade path from 1 to 2,
and 2 is epoch 2). If the epoch is not specified, it should implicitly
  be 0.

+ Example YAML:
+
+ name: foo
+ version: 1
+ description: foo
+ summary: foo
+ epoch: 1*
+
Note that the API for providing this to the store does not yet exist, so
this bug only covers the parsing of this information from the
  `snap.yaml`.
