[Bug 1173457] Re: Ubuntu Installer uses wrong bootloader location for USB UEFI installs
Wanted to create a *portable* Linux Mint USB stick with encryption via LUKS. Installed grub to EFI of local system and not on USB stick itself. EFI of local system points to USB stick. Successfully boots to USB stick on this one system, wrecked my local EFI. What a mess. I'm fortunate I even figured it out and ended up on this page, confirming I am not crazy. Commenters on Linux forums, Stackexchange/Superuser, etc sent me down various rabbit holes for n00bs (probably because they observed I was attempting install with encryption). Fortunately I had enough Linux experience to finally narrow it down to finding this damn page. And for the curious, I got the encryption working. On this one system. And my local EFI now has to be repaired. And my USB stick is useless until I repartition and start over. * CRITICAL ISSUE * -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173457 Title: Ubuntu Installer uses wrong bootloader location for USB UEFI installs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1173457/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1400470] Re: cannot download photos using shotwell via usb
This problem is still present: Shotwell cannot access the camera although it is aware of its existence (it is correctly listed in the LH side menu, in my case a Kodak EZ200). The recommended method of unmounting the device in a file manager seems to be bogus for many people: no device is mounted, so there's nothing to unmount. Something, somewhere, is grabbing the device when it is plugged in, and nothing seems to be able to detect *what* process is responsible. I'm attaching the syslog from when I plug it in. Perhaps someone with better usb-fu can make sense of it. ** Attachment added: "syslog of plugging in Kodak EZ200 under Mint 18" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1400470/+attachment/5146822/+files/ez200 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400470 Title: cannot download photos using shotwell via usb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1400470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1774354] Re: Delay reporting of system metrics when there is no network while running g-i-s
** Description changed: - We need to provide a way to still report them (save for later and - collect via a service) + [Impact] + + * When users are running gnome-initial-setup (first login), if they don't have any network configured, the metrics reports silently drop the request. We are thus ignoring those reports. + * There is now the willingness to have those reports included. The less intrusive way is to drop a pending report file and then having a service (only activated by a systemd path unit) started, doing exponential backoff until a network is detected. It doesn't impact thus CPU or network usage. + * Reusing the previously pending report ensure we really send that data that the user acked upon. + + [Test Case] + + * Disconnect from any network + * Run ubuntu-report send yes + * Check that there is a pending report in ~/.cache/ubuntu-report + * Connect to a network +-> the file should disappear and be sent after a couple of minutes. + + [Regression Potential] + + * The feature has been heavily tested and backed by new tests. + * Any error is already ignored by gnome-initial-setup, so we would end up in the same situation than today. + + + --- + + + We need to provide a way to still report them (save for later and collect via a service) ** Also affects: ubuntu-report (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774354 Title: Delay reporting of system metrics when there is no network while running g-i-s To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-report/+bug/1774354/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1755858] Re: iscsid autostarts on all servers when it has nothing to do
Ok, the forth was a charm - so on LP Infra it seems to be flaky which is a separate issue. [Bug 1755858] Re: iscsid autostarts on all servers when it has nothing to do
This now worked a few times locally (4/4) but never on Infra (3/3). I first thought it would be a timeout for qemu-system-x86_64: terminating on signal 15 from pid 25607 (timeout) xkvm returned 124 in 3600s But that is only because it boots into emergency console and hangs there: You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view While locally (autopkgtest in VM) it boots fine xkvm returned 0 in 200s cleaning up tgt mount tgt-boot-test-4mbUyK ok Ran 3 tests in 230.082s The other arches are good, because the cloud image based test is only run on amd64. All other tests run everywhere and are good. [Bug 1773720] Re: CVE-2017-15105
Hi Simon, So I hit a few issues with the debdiffs: - the patch taken from upstream is in patch -p0 format so quilt push would fail; attempting to adjust the quilt series file to use -p0 (I think, may have conflated with the following issue) failed during the package build. - the unbound package has a debian-changes.patch in its series, which is a catch-all patch that accumulates changes; with the added patch in the series file after that, pushing the patch then building the source resulted in duplicated changes trying to be applied. - for xenial, the upstream patch fails to apply and needs backporting. I addressed the first two issues for bionic and artful, and have uploaded to the ubuntu-security-proposed ppa for testing. The patch for xenial needs backporting, and please ensure that proposed fixes build successfully, either locally or in a ppa. You have been subscribed to a public bug: The 'Software Updater' GUI does not come up. When there is a notification in the panel, clicking on it does nothing. Clicking on the menu item does nothing. [Bug 1774336] [NEW] FS-Cache: Assertion failed: FS-Cache: 6 == 5 is false
Public bug reported: == SRU Justification == [Impact] Oops during heavy NFS + FSCache use: [81738.886634] FS-Cache: [81738.888281] FS-Cache: Assertion failed [81738.889461] FS-Cache: 6 == 5 is false [81738.890625] [ cut here ] [81738.891706] kernel BUG at /build/linux-hVVhWi/linux-4.4.0/fs/fscache/operation.c:494! 6 == 5 represents an operation being DEAD when it was not expected to be. [Cause] There is a race in fscache and cachefiles. One thread is in cachefiles_read_waiter: 1) object->work_lock is taken. 2) the operation is added to the to_do list. 3) the work lock is dropped. 4) fscache_enqueue_retrieval is called, which takes a reference. Another thread is in cachefiles_read_copier: 1) object->work_lock is taken 2) an item is popped off the to_do list. 3) object->work_lock is dropped. 4) some processing is done on the item, and fscache_put_retrieval() is called, dropping a reference. Now if the this process in cachefiles_read_copier takes place *between* steps 3 and 4 in cachefiles_read_waiter, a reference will be dropped before it is taken, which leads to the objects reference count hitting zero, which leads to lifecycle events for the object happening too soon, leading to the assertion failure later on. (This is simplified and clarified from the original upstream analysis for this patch at https://www.redhat.com/archives/linux- cachefs/2018-February/msg1.html and from a similar patch with a different approach to fixing the bug at https://www.redhat.com/archives /linux-cachefs/2017-June/msg2.html) [Fix] Move fscache_enqueue_retrieval under the lock in cachefiles_read_waiter. This means that the object cannot be popped off the to_do list until it is in a fully consistent state with the reference taken. [Testcase] A user has run ~100 hours of NFS stress tests and not seen this bug recur. [Regression Potential] - Limited to fscache/cachefiles. - The change makes things more conservative (doing more under lock) so that's reassuring. - There may be performance impacts but none have been observed so far. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Daniel Axtens (daxtens) Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Daniel Axtens (daxtens) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774336 Title: FS-Cache: Assertion failed: FS-Cache: 6 == 5 is false To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774336/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
